- It's time to answer the biggest question of all as we go redo the last week of Okumura's Palace and do the last 4 Palaces of the game, with the Third Semester included? Can we beat the game while Joker does nothing but guarding while everyone is set on Act Freely? Let's find out! Fair warning of high spoilers and absolute pain ahead.

I think the most I will attempt for a challenge run for this game would be using act freely AI on Merciless.
If I decide to one day do a run like this, I may do a modified version of these rules to still make it enjoyable while keeping the spirit of the challenge intact.

I like the idea that Agathion evolved into Uriel. It just took a ton of time for him to gather the required power to free himself.

I think the level 99 in the first palace is harder simply because of the amount of will power you would need to do the same 3 mundane things over and over again for 250+ hours
Insane suffering plus spent hours executing Lucifer to strengthen angels, later on he’s going straight to Heaven in most religions lol

I find it amazing that for this entire run, Joker being lazy and trying to take the easy route on everything has caused nothing but problems and made it 10x harder for everyone else...
...exactly how it is in real life.
This isn't just an entertaining video about Persona 5, this is a social experiment playing out in real time!
After rewatching this a second time, 2 things:
1) I respect the hell out of you for attempting a minimalist run like this and making it almost to the end with your rules in place.
2) I am inspired to do a modified version of this challenge, which I am dubbing a "slacker run", Joker can still not attack in battle, but I will allow confidants as long as Joker doesn't have to do anything but talk to them. I am allowing movies, books and video games in Leblanc just for something to do and hanging out with friends inside Leblanc if they come over.
- There is still no working at part time jobs, no training/meditating, no laundry or crafting infiltration tools. I am allowing only one shopping trip per palace with either Iwai or Takemi, but not both, and it can only be right before sending the calling card to show how lazy Joker is.
- For the Metaverse, the Velvet Room is still off limits, no Jose, act freely AI, showtimes are only allowed if the AI uses them since it is out of my control if they use them or not and will only swap party members at the entrance of the Palace if the current team cannot get through it.
I created these rules to keep the spirit of the this challenge while still not boring myself to tears during the non-Palace sections of the game. And unfortunately, bonding with Ryuji for insta-kill is a no-go since it involves Joker training. Something I noticed is that bonding with Kawakami is possible in my rules and fights perfectly with the title of my run: slacker. Making Kawakami do my laundry for me while I play video games or read books or sleeping during class feels even more fitting.

i would include (if you wanna make it easier) only changing party members at the beginning of a palace
also hopefully you are allowed to USE THE MENU💀
@@kingki1185 Yeah I'd say the menu was the most frivolous part of this run 😭😭 Because like I think switching party members would've been perfectly fine and tbh seemed to contribute to a lot of his grief at the end of it so I think it should've been fine to use since talking to NPCs is doing nothing and surprise you can switch party members by talking

the fact that the "perfect persona" for maruki is a justice persona, aka akechi's represenative tarot, just feels fitting
Correction: Shido’s Tyrant Judgement is NOT an almighty attack; I have a Persona that reflects 8 attributes and absorbs the other two and when Tyrant’s Judgement came up, it was reflected back. My understanding is that move is classified as a Bless type.
There's another "Tyrant" move that Shido can use that actually is Almighty (or maybe it's Gun, but that's unlikely) that I think he got confused with.
i figured out it was bless when it hit for super effective against my lucifer💀
@@xanderobrien4262 Lucifer normally learns Repel Bless during arcana burst after fusing him; why wouldn't you keep that keep that skill in his build?

At the point in the game you'd be able to fuse him, your Arcana burst from Fool Confidant should grant enough EXP to reach level 99 with the skills being: Morning Star, Repel Bless, Spell Master, Drain Physical, and a few others I'm probably forgetting out of order. It's a real head scratcher for sure.
Akechi ruining this run seems very in character.
I feel like it's probably possible on most difficulties if you get rid of 1 rule. Changing party members. Instead, make it so that you can only change them at the beginning of the palace. After all, you've already proven talking isn't doing something by healing with Caroline. So as long as you aren't doing it mid battle, all you're doing is talking to a friend.

Quite ironic that the one of the most work-intensive runs possible is the one about being lazy.
I am just as impressed as I am just completely dumbfounded that you manage to FINALLY complete this challenge run at the cost of both your health, Time and Sanity. Personally I don't think anyone should ever do these type of challenge any RPG games let alone the Shin Megami Tensei/Persona Series. Period.
I probably have said this before be allow me to reiterate what I've said before; if a challenge run is causing full blown physical and mental distress, that's where it we are cutting it off. But you somehow plow through to prove a point that you can do despite how absolutely impossible it is to do. You made the impossible possible. That's... absolutely insane.

2:03:28 I'm glad I watch this part today. I made a conscience effort to improve myself even more this month. today I run on the treadmill for the first time in a few months. And did some light, weightlifting.
Watching the third trimester made me think of something… Why can we not use switch personas with akechi??? Itd be so cool if his personas were even more radically different with different weaknesses and moves, and we can switch between them like we can with joker, except he’d only have Loki and Robin Hood.
This is legitimately the most impressive challenge run I have ever seen for any video game ever. You have my utmost respect.
It's such a shame that Kasumi wasn't added to Shido's palace. If there is a time where a group of people have to get all the help they have available, it's when your group of students is trying to stop a mafia overlord from becoming a president. The more help the better, she already helped in a previous palace, and she's also affected if Shido is elected. It's such a braindead move from the developers to not take the chance to add Kasumi to this palace. It's not just a huge wasted opportunity, I'm sure the game would've sold even BETTER if they had taken the time to add more Kasumi content.
hard agree. Maybe even earlier, before haru. It wouldnt be that hard to just have her pop in and out of palaces of her own accord to join the group, without having to join meetings and such, like a rogue thief of sorts that helps of her own free will. Its mysterious, its awesome, and pleases everyone

Even if not in shidos palace atleast in the mementos depths, considering they all thought that was the last time they were gonna be phantom thieves what could be the harm in having one extra member increase your chances of winning even more

It's genuinely nauseating just even watching this and imagining what doing this run must've been like. I'm so happy to see it's finally over, and that you can move on to other things. It's amazing you saw this run through to its completion.
In case it even gives the tiniest bit of solace, I want to say that you've been hugely entertaining (and not just because you're suffering for entertainment; also because you're a great commentator), and I fully intend to stick around for whatever projects you have in the future.

It's pretty crazy how bad the AI is in Persona 5, given that in Persona 3, an older game, the AI isn't that bad.
Given that it's not possible to beat Akechi at 89 on easy mode. I wonder if it is possible at 99 on easy mode.

@@littleboy746 True, but I never had that issue. I think the issue is less Mitsuru having awful AI, and more that people don't understand how to change the AI's function. They could change her to aggressive to get around that issue.
@@littleboy746 Mitsuru is only really awful on act freely. Persona 3 is all about taking advantage of the AI options in order to get them to do what you want.
Generally you just set everybody to knock down or heal/support anyways so it wasn't too big of an issue. It's only problematic if you somehow didn't find the AI menu.
Knocking enemies down was ridiculously OP in p3 and lets you farm free turns. I don't really know what they were thinking with that one.
I mean why would you want to put the fate of battles in the hands of an ai you can't fully predict?
P3 has the worst AI if you set them on free will, however if you set roles the AI is better than P5s free will option

Glad you didnt end the run once it was shown to be impossible but rather went back and finished it after having broken some rules, was a more satisfying ending
just count it as he didn't forget the single target moves, so he doesn't break any rules
Here's a modified version I came up with that probably wouldn't inflict as much pain and suffering:
a) ALL activities that require social interactions in the real world are banned
b) Velvet room is always banned
c) The only actions that are banned in the Metaverse are attacking and negotiations
d) Direct commands are allowed
I think this still works with the "Joker has PTSD" story, just with a lot less real PTSD.
Let this be a lesson: Don't do a Do Nothing Run of Persona unless you're going to play on EZ, allow Party Member switching outside of battle, and maybe allow direct control of the party members. A Lazy Joker run is [assumedly] much less stressful that taking that laziness to the extreme and trying to do literally nothing save for what is required.
I was thinking of doing a pacifist joker run. Full actions and can do everything to prepare but just no direct attacks and having the ai take the reigns on the combat. Atleast Joker is doing something be it healing, debuffing, buffing, just something to contribute.

This challenge has been quite the ride it's been an extremely fun time. Putting together everything is like a giant puzzle and challenge in and of itself. It takes a lot of work and I'm glad to have been here, and helping in whatever way I can.
I feel like at some point you hit that wall of sanity where you went past insanity and into pure hellish determination. I'm sorry the challenge turned out to be a bit of a bust but Dude, respect.

I don't think I've ever seen anyone cram almost an entire year of daily activities into the final month of the game before. I'm honestly more impressed by that than the rest of the run.

Yeah, it’s like on one hand I could totally understand somebody for not trying to get every single pronunciation of words, especially when ones like dekaja aren’t ever explicitly said in game. But like, when the characters are regularly screaming the name of their persona it’s kinda funny when people still mess it up. And when you’re grinding that much I figure it’d be seared into the brain. In the end it doesn’t really matter because this is a ridiculous grind so these are just nitpicks, but I find it funny whenever this happens in any video game/media.
1:35:00 I think what happens is the game takes the party members who were on equipped in the 2nd and 3rd slots before they left.
Since your arrangement during the Yaldabaoth fight was Ryuji, Ann, then Morgana, Ryuji and Ann are the next two in your party and the game chose them.

To be fair, the no switching thing was very silly. Especially when your party is not full. For a depressed run, it makes sense for joker to make people tag along with him

1:01:08 Tyrant's Judgement does "Heavy Bless damage to all foes;" not Almighty. I remember my Thanatos Picaro with "Repel Bless" repelling it consistently. I also checked the wiki and it said heavy bless.

No, seriously. When I first saw the thumbnail of the first video of this hellish run, I was going through my first ever run of Persona 5 Royal, also my first ever persona game.
Little did I know, that game would've changed my life.
Seriously, it's incredible how much I've changed while playing this game.
I got over shyness, took up many hobbies, and finally found out what I want to do. Heck, I even started writing a fanfic of this game, something I never thought I would do!
You, Nitsua, accompanied me through this journey. That monologue after finding out that it was impossible was 100% true, and also reminded me of how much I loved persona 5, which after playing 3FES and being halfway through 4G, remains my favourite.
Enough staying off-topic, I just wanted to say thank you for everything.
Please, never do a challenge run at the cost of your mental health though-
I'd adjust the challenge a bit to make it less masochistic but keep the same spirit. Keep the party members on act freely but you can switch them out. Also enabling shopping but keeping confidants and velvet room off limits. Pretty much a "joker isn't a wildcard anymore and he's a douche now" run

I knew this challenge would run into problems with Shadow Okumura the boss is so hard when playing normally it feels like a run ender for most people.
I don't think it would have mattered but Arahabaki has the trait immunity which makes you immune to all ailments, that would have been better to have than antibody.

I kinda want to do a more simple version of it? No overworld actions that aren't story based. Maybe no persona fusion while I'm at it idk. But basically just P5 without Confidants/Exercise/Social Skills/Crafting.

I watched through the entire run out of curiosity, didn't expect to be met with a man rediscovering freedom at the end. So here's a better challenge that won't make you hate life:
Persona 5 Royal but the protag just wants to live a normal life. No mementos, no velvet room, no chests since those aren't in the real world, and obviously no fighting with Joker. The only things you can do with the protag are activities in the real world and the real world alone.

I love the potential story following Joker fighting in the arena, all his friends force him to fight for once, he pretty easily wipes the floor with the shadows, yawns loudly and says he's done enough work and wants to leave the rest of the fighting to everyone else
Congratulations on actually doing it, even with compromises. Even though P5 is an incredibly easy game, its one of the most fun megaten games to do challenge runs on! I've already done Arsene only, No fusion, and act freely only (although I technically didn't finish the act freely run, I beat Okumura which is the last hard fight for that run anyway) So I agree with your point on enjoying a challenge run of this game, but with much less restrictions! It really makes you think outside the box to play lots of different challenges, so every playthrough is fresh!

Fun Fact: 2:15:31 You can get Null Fear in Persona 5 Royal through skill mutations during fusion alarms similar to the way you get Taunting Aura or Concealment (for example).
My guy, this was probably the best Persona 5 challenge I have ever seen. I'm surprised that your mental state is kinda still intact, but otherwise, this is the best run I have ever seen.

I salute you. Doing nothing has never been so exhausting. But you did it. I don’t think I have to tell you not to do this for the other games, so I won’t. But I am looking forward to your persona 4 no hit run. I hope that one isn’t as soul crushing.
I think the way to go when we get Yusuke is actually Ann, Morgana, and Yusuke. Sure, we lose Morgana on Okumura's palace, but we get him back on the Shido boss fight, so if we can manipulate things so that Morgana and Yusuke are the party members we get against Cendillon, Sumire SHOULD replace Yusuke.

I actually was looking for a act-freely only playthrough where you can do all other activities (confidant, buy and uprage equipment, etc.). it would be fun to see if you can get through merciless by optimizing your party but not intervenning directly. If anyone do that kind of challenge, I hope they record it
