Lmao. Functioning society? Blud, I do agree the part that it makes a country functional because of having free luggage seat but definitely no way Japan with a birth rate hard decline is a functioning society. Lovers being fine with their partners going to prostitutes? Young people going to prostitution and young men staying in their houses without going out for years? Work being more important than family? Yeah. I doubt it’s functioning well.
Japan's Shinkansen trains are designed to depart within one minute of arriving at the station. Therefore, one minute and one second...one second late is reported to headquarters. So we announce a delay of 12 seconds per year. In many places, the time is controlled in seconds to make 240 km/h every 15 minutes. Then the train departs the station and the crew visually checks for safety until it leaves the platform with the windows open. Rain or snow, 365 days a year. I really can only thank those who are involved in Shinkansen operations.
I always get a giggle from the difference in the Japanese announcement and the English announcement. The Japanese one says “we will now stop at (station name), the English one says “we will now make a brief stop at (station name)”
@@AJ-Palermo i believe it's actually a few years worth of delays? Amtrak has an entire yearly report on it, it's a part of the "report card" that it gives to freight companies. but since Amtrak doesn't own any of the rail, most of the delays are caused by the rail hosts.

@@johnlacey3857 I understand that. Another issue with travelling with bags in Japan is that larger bags can only be put behind specific seats in the train.
