I highly recommend using delivery when the luggage is huge. you can ask the hotel clerk to send it directly to the next hotel. but that’s that, little trouble is a part of adventure. Enjoy☺️
Yes, this is me, literally sitting on the edge of my seat watching you trying to get to the bullet train 😁 Oh, and Ollie's best room tour so far! Thanks for taking us all along on this adventure (and who needs an outro anyway 😊)
This brought back so many memories of the chaos of Tokyo station when we took this trip to Osaka. We picked our seats with the luggage storage online from the Shinkanzen website
It’s a very big station!! We couldn’t get that website to accept our card so had no choice. Luckily no one tried to use our luggage bit, our carriage was fairly empty
It’s one of the busiest stations we’ve ever been in, so glad we made that train in all the chaos!! If we’d have had spare luggage space we would definitely have been bring it back for her!!
Yeah it was stressful I had the similar situation when I needed to depart from Tokyo, so after the hectic experience to catch the train, I would usually go to the station the day/night before to process the seat reservation to secure the seating and also familiar the route inside the train station especially the busied one. Hope you enjoy the rest of your trip in Japan.
That’s a great idea! Wish we’d thought of that when we were in the city a few days earlier! Thank you, we had a wonderful trip and can’t wait to return!! 😃
It's highly likely that the thing on top of the rice was a pickled plum. Last time we used the Shinkansen I did see a family put a large (normal sized luggage) in the overhead space, it was kind of scary since it stuck out above everyone's heads. We used luggage delivery several times on our last trip and will likely do that again, or we will use the Shinkansen SmartEX app to make sure we get tickets with luggage space well in advance, since seats do seem to sell out often. Can't wait to see more of your adventures!!
Ahhh yeah I bet it was that! I should have tried it! We really didn’t fancy putting our large cases above for the very reason they could potentially fall off. Would likely use luggage delivery next time, we just didn’t have enough time in Osaka to do that this time. If you don’t mind me asking what card did you use for the smartex app? We couldn’t get any of ours to work but would have much preferred to have booked the seat we wanted beforehand!
@@TheKershawsAdventures I haven't tried the app yet, but due to your question, I did look into it more. It sounds like many people on Google Play have complaints about getting locked out and being unable to use their credit cards. I guess I'll be skipping that option and buying my tickets directly at the station. My husband and I did send our bags ahead a couple times for our trip in 2023. We would pack a carry-on with 2 days of necessities then send the big luggage to the next place (Tokyo to Hiroshima took 2 days delivery time). It worked out well for us both when flying to Hiroshima, and taking the bullet train to Osaka. It was really worth it!
Yeah it was absolutely pickled plum (umeboshi). A lot of people mush them up and mix them up in the rice for added tang and fruitiness. They taste a little bit like fruit but also have a sour/salty thing going on.
Thank you for visiting Japan. I'm sure you had a hard time passing through the automatic ticket gates at stations with large luggage. In such cases, you should use the manned ticket gates located on the far right or far left.😊
Ahh ok, we did look at that but were only in Osaka for one day after leaving Tokyo so it just didn’t work for us this time. Definitely would look at using it next time though!
Awesome vlog once again! Always a highlight of my week to watch your next adventure! Our little family of three will be travelling to Japan in the next couple of years. Super interesting to see your content, thank you! I’m off to Hong Kong with her by myself next year so I loved your HK videos too! Thanks again 🥰
@ thanks. I’ve never got on with the Osmo but it is so popular now, maybe I need to give it another try. Currently use the canon G7X but need an upgrade.
The Linear Shinkansen, which is faster than the Shinkansen currently under construction in Japan, is scheduled to open in 2028 or later, with 500 km/h and an unmanned operation between Tokyo and Nagoya, with a required time of 40 minutes. Most of them are tunnels, and eventually they will be extended to Osaka, connecting Tokyo and Osaka in 50 minutes. There is a test center for the Linear Shinkansen in Yamanashi Prefecture. It is faster than the current Shinkansen.
We are very aware of that which is why we were talking quietly. The audio is through microphones and turned up so that the audio is loud enough for the video 😊
If you do this again, there is a service in Japan called Takyubin that transports your luggage to your next hotel. Then you just need to carry an overnight bag since your luggage will be there the next afternoon.
They know how they should secure their big loads. This is very different from foreigners who come to Japan and selfishly leave things inside the Shinkansen. I wish these people would be given priority to visit Japan. From Friends of Japan
The designers of the first Shinkansen originally designed aircraft. He was ordered to design a kamikaze attack plane, the ''Ouka'', during the war. However, he was deeply distressed by this and converted to Christianity after the war and switched to railroad design. Railroad design was chosen because, unlike automobiles and ships, there are very few opportunities for conversion to offensive weapons such as tanks and battleships.
All of your videos are top notch. Beautiful cinematography, solid audio, stellar editing.....this said, there are things your family does better than most and Ollie's room tours is clearly one of those. Knowing where they hide the spare beds is good info to have! Thank-you Ollie.

Sorry, it was stressful for a minute wasn’t it! 🤣 It was the panic of her saying to us you should have enough time to make the train but no changes…
such a nice and casual vlog. it was like traveling with you guys!
Thanks, was a crazy but very fun day! 😃
This brought back so many memories of the chaos of Tokyo station when we took this trip to Osaka. We picked our seats with the luggage storage online from the Shinkanzen website
It did not stop other passengers coming g and putting their cases on top of ours, which royally ticked me off

That train station looked chaotic! What a great price for that hotel room. And Zoe says, yes need that headband! 🦈

The way I verbally gasped and clutched imaginary pearls when I saw the luggage... 😆
🤣 why? Because we had so much or because we managed three weeks with that little?! 😆
@ the mere fact you brought suitcases instead of using Kuro Neko 😆.
No judgements tho, I get it with the kids and all.
