I’m currently in New York as an European! I got 20 lifers in 2 days including baltimore oriole and more beautiful American birds. Still hoping for a belted kingfisher!
You often hear the kingfisher before you see him, so be sure to listen for his calls. Happy Birding!
@@Kellysher I didn’t see it unfortunately but I got like 25 lifers so I’m very happy
What lifers did you get?@@jurassic_hobbyonmyaltaccou3878
You’re going to get so many more if you’re hanging around longer!
Louisiana has beautiful ducks. And lots of hummingbirds.
It definitely does!
Those are all beautiful birds! I just saw a few painted buntings too and wow they are just some of the most vibrant and beautiful birds I’ve ever seen!
They are such a fascinating combination of colors
Spring migration is truly a magical time and I'm missing it badly being outside of the US now.
Come back to the states! It’s waiting for you!
I appreciate you sharing the details on big habits and behaviors. I’m always learning and trying to increase my knowledge.
You are so welcome!
I was sitting in the sun, with Jethro Tull blasting "Hymn 43" and was surely impressing the area with my singing when a rose breasted grosbeak lit on my porch rail to assess my vocal skills. He must've found my voice unique, because he immediately joined in and sang with me till the song's end. I didn't know if I should've felt complimented or criticized, but it didn't matter; we both sang beautifully.
Sounds like you two had a connection lol
Saw my first indigo bunting last week! Still can’t believe how deep blue they are. Nature is so cool.
They are definitely very striking. One of those birds that makes you stop and appreciate it
Love those little Indigo and I always keep a hanging tray feeder full of white millet up for them this time of year in the UP. They feed on it really well until summer really kicks in.
I have had all five of these this spring, plus the Blue Grosbeak, who is also nicely colorful, and the summer tanager, who well may be nesting somewhere in my yard. Then there are all those fun warblers: hooded, northern parula, Cape May, etc. Currently watching out for my own special Mississippi Kite who's been here four years running. Then there are the Broad-winged hawks ... I'll stop there! Love Spring!
Ruby throated humming birds.. are BOSS. They don't mess around.
Second only to Rufous Hummingbirds!
SoCal resident here. They are EVERYWHERE in my back yard. I typically have no fewer than 5 of them.
It funny to watch them play grab-ass with each other around the feeders.
This is my first spring looking for warblers, got to see an American Redstart, Hooded Warbler, Palm Warbler, and Louisiana Waterthrush already and heard a few others too like Blackburian (which happens to be the one I want to see the most). All lifers besides the palm. your vids have been really encouraging
You’re gonna have an absolute blast
Thanks for mentioning Tennessee 😀 My Scarlet Tanagers were just about to get offended by you saying they spend the summer in the northern US. You got most of my favorites except I would add the brilliantly red Summer Tanager to the list. Gorgeous bird and, at least around here, a little less people-shy than the Scarlet Tanagers.
Been seeing baltimore orioles and rose breasted grosbeaks. The warblers are coming!
🎉
It was neat this last weekend. Saturday (4/27) No or few warblers in central Wisconsin Sunday after a big south wind, saw Palm, Yellow Rumped at the side of the road in several places. One windy day and they were around in numbers!
That was wonderful. I made a list of top ten most beautiful birds of North America.
10. Summer Tanager
9. Indigo Bunting
8. American Redstart
7. Rose-breasted Grosbeak
6. Vermilion Flycatcher
5. Mountain Bluebird
4. Wood Duck
3. Scarlet Tanager
2. Baltimore Oriole
1. Painted Bunting
Those are some great beautiful birds!
I got a male rose-breasted grosbeak on my feeder today!
Seems like they are just starting to arrive based on reports!
I'm in WV so far I have achieved the dream of the Eastern Bluebird visiting, bonus a nesting pair is using one of our bird houses. I am waiting for the rose breasted grosbeaks to return for their brief visits, and also getting the hummingbird feeders set up due to illness we are running a week behind on that this year. We saw the Baltimore Oriole when we were at a doctor's appointment in Ohio last week, very pretty bird.
What makes it particularly exciting for me, is traveling half way across the country, and doing 30 day car camping trips to see them, like i am right now 😀👍
11 days in, and i think im at close to 20 lifers already 🙂
You guys kill me when you talk about your "back yard birds" ! I wish. But hey, we do have some cool ones in Cali too. I have seen 20 Western Tanager in a day 🙂
Great video guys 👍
I'll be birding at High Island Texas in a couple hours 😉👍
I have been lucky enough to see some rose-breasted grosbeaks and scarlet tanagers while they were migrating through. So far, I haven’t seen a Baltimore oriole this year, though. The other two stay in my area all summer. I love them all! Good choices.
Thank you! Tried to pick the backyard bird “pillars” of spring
Got balt oriole, northern parula, orchard oriole, warbling vireo, yellowthroat, yellow warbler past few days, and then scarlet tanager today! Was pumped
Awesome!
Just spotted a Scarlet Tanager on Saturday.
Nice!
Great video! I saw my first Ruby-Throated Hummingbird recently!
PARRR-TEEE!!
Thanks, Ornithology Insights
Ryan the Rose Breasted Grosbeak along with the Baltimore Oriole's they love grape jelly feeders .
This is true!
I like your video 🎉
Yes!
BTBW is my favorite warbler species, and I havent gotten one in a couple of years. But I’m determined to get it again this season.
It’s definitely a pretty one. Listen for their song that sounds like “I am so lazy”
Random thought, but can you make a video testing out a good nest box camera? I want to buy one but have no idea where to start.
Would recommend this one! We also have a few vids showing the wrens that nested in it!
th-cam.com/video/EPAYCPiNzxQ/w-d-xo.htmlsi=pl1yxbAvGGaqzW52
Just bought one! The strong winds we have been having in IL destroyed the one wrens we’re currently using. Thankfully they were still constructing the nest and there weren’t any eggs yet.
I need help ID'ing a bird I've encountered in SoCal. It looks like a Baltimore Oriole but with a Yellow Belly instead on Orange. They are hyper skittish but there is a least 1 male and 1 female in the area.
Look up Scott’s oriole and Audubon oriole and see if that fits your mystery bird
@@BadgerlandBirding Bingo! Right on the money, thanks😁
Baltimore Orioles are amazing birds, but Orchard Orioles are under-appreciated.
Couldn’t agree more!
I love watching the orioles chase crows , ravens + grackles out of my yard ! They're my bully bashers !
You keep saying the eastern United States when the map also shows the midwest as a range for these birds. You're in Badgerland, for crying out loud! Give the north and midwest some love!
Lol it’s Eastern as in when field guides say “Birds of Eastern North America” referencing more so East of the Mississippi not the East coast
@@BadgerlandBirdingThere's an east coast bias in pretty much everything, and I say that as someone who grew up out there, but has lived in Minnesota for the last 34 years.
I'm waiting with baited breath for my ruby throats to arrive again! I've gotten so much video of them coming to hand held feeders, and last year I even had one land on my finger while it ate. 🥹 I've also seen my very first rose breasted grossbeak in my area! I'm not sure what's changed about my region because they're apparently common in my area, but I've never seen one before. I'm hoping to see an Indigo Bunting someday. I think I've seen one if the past, but I wasn't sure at the time, thinking it might have been a really bright Bluebird.
Thanks for making this video, guys, it was a great one!
