I used to play Stunt Race FX religiously when I was a kid. I thought it was amazing that I even had a racing game that was in 3D and had such dynamic environments.
SNES, GBA PS1 PS4 videos from you make me happy... And I'm happier to see far east of Eden (Tengai Makyō Zero) Pilotowings has a special place in my heart, and I still have it. Another graphically impressive SNES game can be Traverse starlight and praise so beautiful RPG sadly never left Japan... Ihatovo Monogatari is a weird game and won't be for everyone, but still a hidden gem, I think can be a good choice as well. Thanks again for another video 😊😊
I remember Pilot Wings! Especially because a similar game (that included only the parachute part) was included in an old Nokia phone (3510 I believe). But yeah, really fun game!
In a way I think Super Butouden 2 "feels" more like DBZ, and has more accurate movement and camera angles. At the end of the day, DBZ means fighting in the sky as much as the ground. Graphically conveying that is just as challenging as making pretty sprites. Hyper Dimensions is a prettier game. It just looks like a DBZ texture pack for Mortal Kombat and plays like one too.
The SNES blew people away with impressive graphics day one so it’s no wonder you’ve got many games you can make these videos on. An I’m happy to see the superior looking SNES model get used for the intro. 0:43 - Is this Will but older? Rather cool if your character actually aged up throughout the game all the way back on the SNES. The colour palette is amazingly vibrant! 2:20 - Going for a far more muted palette here but Cybernator is impressing with the animation of it’s robot (that gun arm has a wonderful movement to it) and the in-your-face explosion effect. 3:24 - That so? It does intrigue me so I’ll have to consider checking it out if I get time. 8:30 - Hudson Soft’s turn based RPG I believe. Somewhat doubt Konami will go the extra mile of translating these games for a modern collection release but it’d be cool if they did. I like how they have the Phantasy Star/Dragon Quest enemy focus view point whilst still having each player character visible, and with distinctively vibrant back sprites to boot. 12:44 - An then there’s the thumbnail game. The closest I’ve ever got to experiencing anything of this Butoden series was Ultimate Battle 22… which doesn’t give a good impression. These SNES entries look to run much smoother. The fuzzy backgrounds have a nice charm to them, as if they are conveying far distances. 14:01 - The light effect of Turrican’s gun looks so cool. Also liking the small animated background details, managing to breathe a bit of life into the destroyed city landscape. 16:04 - The blocky look has a nostalgic charm to it these days. Love the decision to add big bobbly eyes to the cars and the water splash effect looks great.

Trials of Mana (or Seiken Densetsu 3 at the time) will forever be one of my most cherished memories of this console. I was 15 at the time it came out, and have been such a fan of Squaresoft with Secret of Mana, FF6 and Chrono Trigger that I willingly had to starve for 2 months straight on my lunch allowance to get enough money to be able to buy it on an import games shop besides my school. Illusion of Gaia is pretty fun! I haven't finished it though, but I definitely like how it looks. Tales of Phantasia I enjoyed as well, though I think the PS1 version looks better. I know the SNES version is very iconic though and I have a copy of this version as well. Trials of Mana is similar to Phantasia in how iconic it is as an SNES RPG. My friend showed me the game years ago as kids on emulator and I ended up getting the version that was released in the Collection of Mana thing for Switch. I haven't played much of it but I have a lot of respect for the game. Dragon Ball Z Super Butoden 2 is probably my favorite of the Super Butoden games because of the story mode. The SNES was truly a great system. With the right programming tricks and skills, there's a lot to do with its 256 simultaneous (32768 possible) colors, up to four layers of parallax scrolling plus sprite layer and its mode 7 7 capabilities. Some early PS games looked inferior to the best looking SNES games, and titles like Rendering Ranger R2 and Turtles Tournament Fighters are even on par with some Neo Geo games. Amazing home console and still a great system with an amazing library of games and some decent and quite accurate arcade ports from the pre arcade perfect aera, MK2, Fatal Fury Special, World Heroes 1 and 2, Fighters History, Parodius, the great and timeless Street Fighter games and of course the port of Killer Instinct, with inferior sound and graphics but faster and better gameplay than the arcade original. The SNES was all you needed in the early to mid 90s. Many people (mostly fanboys, I don't mind any sort of fanboyism) today claim the SNES has muffled audio (but it's actually better than other cartridge based systems of the same generation), a slow CPU (indeed, 3.58mHz is actually slow compared to others but don't forget about enhancement chips with MUCH higher clock speed) and lower horizontal resolution (256 pixels wide, others had 320), but its whole architecture was entirely different to other systems of the time like the Megadrive or PC Engine/TG-16 for example, so it doesn't make sense to compare the CPU clock speed of the different systems. Every system had its strenghts and weaknesses (just like today, but it would be kind of boring if everything is the same), but the most important thing is, NOBODY complained about such things back then, we were more than happy with what we got. Great times back then, the 16bit aera was the best imo abd I'm glad I whitnessed it. Please excuse my bad English (it's not my language) and have a nice day!
I actually preferred Actraiser II to the first one. What I liked about the first game was the action. The sim building was always confusing and boring to me. Actraiser II took care of that and just focused on the side-scrolling and the action.
Funny that the framerate of stuntrace FX was mentioned cos I definitely don't remember the game running as well as it does on the video using original Hardware!
They use some clever tricks to get over the low framerate by overlaying the timer down to the hundredth of a second and statuses running 60fps along with the flicker on the tires to simulate tread and illusion of movement.
Ocean Software published a game that isn't a stinker? You learn something new every day... So many good looking 2D games on Mega Drive, SNES (Super Famicom), Neo Geo. They have their port on PS1. They have a higher color count on screen then 4th gen systems and something else. Lower number frames of animation per sprites. This is where PS1 struggles.
7:15 Couldn't disagree more, the difficulty in Actraiser 2 was so much fun to figure out. And the gameplay was more interesting and less straightforward than the previous games platforming stages. Also, the bosses are significantly better than 1 as well. I understand why people don't like the absence of the sim aspect since it was such a core element of the first game. However, it's clear that's not what 2 is going for. it's going for a challenging platformer in the same vein as Ghouls n Ghosts, and in that, I think it succeeds.
