The GBA was a great system for every kind of gamer. I would play Rebelstar for RTS; Final Fantasy, Summon Knight, Mario And Luigi or Golden Sun for RPGs; Wario Land 4, Pokemon Pinball, Wario Ware Twisted, Castlevania Aria Of Sorrow for action and some times Megaman Zero or Metroid. Yet there are so many I couldn't get to play.

Boktai is still one of my favorite game series to this day. Always glad to see it get a mention! Boktai 2 is my personal favorite in the series, but 1 and 3 are also good times.
@@tatinh9885 Lunar Knights is still a good game, but you're right. It just doesn't feel the same without the stealth, solar sensor, and the pile driver. Actually, if they replaced the space shooter segments with the pile driver fights again, it would've improved the gameplay substantially.
Though the sensor wasn’t there, I found that using the GBA slot and putting either Boktai and Boktai 2, it’d help in restoring your HP and Energy in the same way as the original games. Sadly, Shinbok (Boktai 3) is locked to being Japan only, but I heard it charged up the Trance Gauge. I always played Lunar Knights with the games inside because I replayed Boktai and it’s sequel. Especially with the challenge modes being very fun but also really hard. Lunar Knights also had that kind of post-game challenge mode as well, and my goodness it not easy. Especially with dealing with the wind mechanics that are in each of the games. Even if you changed the terrain, it wouldn’t do anything for you because even at 0.4 wind speed is enough to move your character almost off the ledge.
@@deliaseymour5578 You can very easily patch boktai 3 into English with a fan translation patch, and you can also patch the games to be able to control the intensity of the solar sensor within the game.
Ninja Five-O is such a badass game! Been playing that on my Analogue Pocket, and loving it. Lady Sia is another that always interested me, and Astro Boy I've heard nothing but great things about. Awesome episode as always man!
True Story: I bought a copy of Summon Night Swordcraft Story 2 when it was still like 50ish dollars several years ago. It got to my state and then got lost in the mail. I never got it (seller refunded me cuz they were good) and now the price is ridiculous T-T
Is anyone else sad that we probably won’t get anymore handhelds like the GBA? I don’t mean piracy handhelds that just plays old games, but by a big manufacturer that has thousands of developers for. I love 2d games, and a form factor that fits in your pocket. Now the Switch and probably switch 2 are too big to bring with you. I really am upset that this era in gaming may really be over

The story from Earthbound does matter to Mother 3 so I recommend finishing EB first Mother 3's gameplay is very similar to EB's with the addition of a rhythm-based timed hit feature in battle thematically, Mother 3's gonna hit you with a gutpunch of emotions at times

I'd put Rokusho version up there as well - together, they're a set of dual-versions that actually feel like distinct games despite having the same campaign. Thanks to a lot of the parts and medals unique to each game, Metabee focuses much more building on teams supporting shooting-type Medabots, while Rokusho focuses much more emphasis on melee-type Medabots. What results is one game where you can play a more balanced and slower-paced team (Metabee) or a high-risk high-reward team (Rokusho) due to the team options available to you and the game mechanics involving the different combat styles.
We need the Sonic Advance Trilogy to get on switch, ps5, xbox, or hell just put it on steam. Those games doesn't deserve to be forgotten, but to be remembered. The sprite work are amazing, on the 30th anniversary team sonic racing you even get to see a bunch of sprites which just shows how much they cared while making the games.
I love these videos. It's a trip down memory lane. I still have most of these titles. I remember trying to use the inovative solar panel in Boktai but in the sun you couldn't see the screen at all! Very aggravating. I ended up seling that one though i think i still have the manga. Thanks for the nostalgic trip!
I've been playing GBA and ds (among others) on an LG phone with a 5g snapdragon and a razer kishi controller and it's awesome, you can just flat out control things like solar level, bit cheaty but still.
Mother 3 is one of the best games ever made. But I'm glad you gave a shoutout to Summon Knight Swordcraft Story 2. Both of the first 2 Summon Knight GBA games are great, but the second one is a big improvement. I'm sad that we will probably never get to see the third game in English.
Astro Boy Omega Factor is easily top 3 on the system. Superb gameplay, great story, and the english release is a greater challenge than the original japanese version

Pokemon Emerald seems like a stretch for being stuck on GBA when we got Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire on 3DS. I say this in full understanding that I would totally buy it again should it release on Switch, or some successor console. Also, such a shame that so many of these games are crazy expensive if you want to play on original hardware. Viva emulation and the heroes of homebrew!
You just unlocked a memory: 3am awake wishing I could sleep because I have to work a double black friday shift at Circuit City. Can't sleep because I can't put down Tactics Ogre: The Knight of Lodis. It was a terrible day. I still remember it as the most tired I've been until I had kids.

Lady Sia is a game I had forgotten about. As someone who was stuck between playing Pokemon or Final Fantasy, it was the one that made me want to play more platforming games because it's finally not a Megaman. That was honestly all I remember about why I chose it, but the art style and story got me hooked until school started and I forgot about it.
I know I say this every time, but the GBA is one of my favorite gaming systems of all time. Playing video games during the 6th generation was such fun. Great choices on the games too.

Good list! Another great Japanese exclusive GBA game is Tomato Adventure, a charming RPG from the developers of Mario & Luigi, AlphaDream. Considering that AlphaDream went bankrupt a few years ago, it's probably going to be stuck on the GBA forever.

I'm looking for a gba (not sure if it was gba, I forgot what emulator we were using in the laptop because it was like 10 or more years already) game that have a devil/dracula as a final boss, before encountering the boss, the boss would be stealing or manipulating one of your member which is a girl and then you went to the boss to defeat the boss and to get your member as well. The game was sort of a tactics type similar to a Final Fantasy II from the 90s. Another scene I remember is that, on your journey, you would be helping a giant bird that that would become your transportation from land to the top of mountain or something, and for the bird to transport you, you will enter a cage (bird cage). These are the scenes that I vividly remember, I hope you can help me guys. Thank you!
I remember one time long ago when I saw Drill Dozer on a store's shelf for just $5, and for whatever dumb reason, I didn't decide to buy it, but I really wish I had. At least I have experienced some of the other games mentioned here, such as Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, both Summon Night: Swordcraft Story games, and Pokémon Emerald. I'll definitely want to keep a lookout for some of the other games featured in this video, if I should happen to stumble upon them at a tag sale or something.

Excellent video! Suggestion: below the name of the game it would be good to put the name of the developer and publisher, and next to the name of the game, the year of its release.
The GBA's 240x160 screen feels kind of claustrophobic. There just aren't enough pixels to have good-looking sprites _and_ be able to see a big enough area simultaneously. I feel like 320x240 is the sweet spot for retro gaming, just barely big enough.
Like the ds the gba was just such an awesome system with memorable games. Lady sia for example just runs and looks so smooth. If only we had gotten sword craft story 3 😩

my favorite platformer in GBA is the metroidvania style Shaman King Game.. it's just so perfect

Mother 3 blew my away. Fav JRPG of all time, and I grew up loving the famous FF titles.
The real draw for me in tactics ogre is the Emblem system. That’s what makes it so addictive and stand out in the genre

Gonna have to disagree with you on Lady Sia. Played it and beat it, but it was mid at best. Also, it was a GBA game with load screens.
Pokemon Emerald is my favorite game and one of my favorite games on the GBA so far.

The GBA's 240x160 screen feels kind of claustrophobic. There just aren't enough pixels to have good-looking sprites _and_ be able to see a big enough area simultaneously. I feel like 320x240 is the sweet spot for retro gaming, just barely big enough.
