      Get a Life at Sea Hello! I really appreciate your videos, they’ve been very useful.
      I am about to be hired as a Lounge technician for NCL in the production show department. I wanted to ask you if you know somebody that I could get in touch to who actually worked in this department on cruise ships. I have some doubts about what to pack, what are the privileges for this position, what type of shoes should I bring for working time, and a few more questions... 😊
      Thanks a lot for your time and all the information on your site and TH-cam channel.🙏🏻❤️

    Hi. What about salons for crew members? Where can one get my eye brows done/threading? And a hair cut, waxing and other stuff?

    • @Getalifeatsea
      @Getalifeatsea  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As a crew member you are often free to use the passenger salon during certain times/days :) Usually port days are best as most of the guests are off the ship enjoying the sites :) There are often significant crew discounts as well when it comes to using the onboard spa :)

    Hi Amanda,
    I will start my first contract in 10 days! I would like to know if I can bring some meds to the ship, just some pills for the flu or that type.
    Also, I wonder if you pass like a security area where they take a look in your suitcase. I saw a video, but not sure if that happens in your very first day.
    Thank you!

    • @Getalifeatsea
      @Getalifeatsea  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes you can often bring some of your own personal meds and yes your baggage will be scanned upon arrival most often :) Congrats!

  • @TravelWithCesarin

    Thanks for all the info Amanda, question.. have you ever seen a cruise crew/staff/officer member with any sort of disability?

    • @Getalifeatsea
      @Getalifeatsea  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Why yes I have - I have actually worked with crew with various types of disabilities. As long as a crew member is able to pass the mandatory pre-employment medical, and perform their assigned emergency duties, they are good to go.

    • @TravelWithCesarin
      @TravelWithCesarin 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for the answer Amanda!, I was really wondering about that. I'm
      a partially deaf man, I'm a IT with extensive customer/staff support
      experience and I was fearing I might just outright be discarded when
      applying. Another question by the way. Any chance you know what is the
      minimum english levels they request?

    • @Getalifeatsea
      @Getalifeatsea  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cesarin Pillin Another great question - usually Cruise Lines require what's called a Marlins English Test with a min of 80% or higher score - you can take a practice test here www.marlinstests.com/online_flash_test.php?tid=5

    • @TravelWithCesarin
      @TravelWithCesarin 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      did that online test.. had 100% score.. doesnt seem that hard in the written department ( I know I will struggle a bit on the spoken parts thanks to being deaf)
      Thank so much for the info Amanda!

    Hi! Love your videos!! They are very helpful!! One question...Is it possible to get on board internet access? I'm planning to get my laptop... Is Internet free??? How much it cost??? Thank you in advance

    • @Getalifeatsea
      @Getalifeatsea  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Eduardo Escalon Hey there Eduardo! Thanks for watching! Yes it is possible to get onboard internet access. Most ships have a sat wi-fi system. Wi fi with most lines is available in a few places for crew - such as; the crew rec room, crew mess and crew internet cafe. There is a charge for it. Crew usually purchase a crew internet card in $10 or $20 increments. The card then lasts you anywhere from 1-3 hrs depending on where the ship is in the world. What most crew do in order to get free wi-fi is to use the hot spots that are available in most ports during their shore-leave. Hope this helps! Chat soon! And feel free to send anymore questions my way :)

      @Getalifeatsea  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey there Kayla - so sorry to hear of your long delay re: your hiring process. Process times can vary from line to line - typically though it is a 30-90 day process. Have you reached out to your hiring partner and/or the line directly as of yet? Sometimes there can also be a hold up based on openings for your department. Let me know what position you were hired for and I can adapt my answer accordingly as well :)

    Hi Amanda, do I need to use money if I'm working in a crusie ship? how about laundry? and do they have any snack shop or electronics shop just for crew?

    • @Getalifeatsea
      @Getalifeatsea  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Ah Seng Hey there Ah Seng :) Laundry is free onboard for crew - uniforms are cleaned free of charge for you - however, for your personal clothes the machines are free but you need to provide the washing powder. You can purchase this onboard from the crew shop (usually there are snacks and some basic electronics there too - however, most crew shop for those items ashore for better deals).

    • @ahseng4963
      @ahseng4963 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Amanda for the swift response, how about salary? Do I get in cash term or other term? Can you please explain? And if I wanna buy something onboard, I need to use cash?

    • @Getalifeatsea
      @Getalifeatsea  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey there - no worries re: quick response - that is what I aim for always :) Re: getting paid - usually it is in cash, however, some companies have moved to sponsored interac bank cards which your earnings are put onto. If you want to buy something onboard it is usually in cash on is put on your crew card which you pay off each month when you get your pay :)

    hi, Amanda... im from india and having a 2.5 years experienced in fitness industry... want to work in cruise ship as a fitness trainer... so, what are the chances to get job as a fitness instructor in cruise... ??? and approx how much i wll get paid as a trainer in cruise???

    • @Getalifeatsea
      @Getalifeatsea  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great question! Typically most spa/fitness personnel are hired through one the two major concessions world wide - one is based out of the UK and hires internationally and the other is based out of the US - and also hires internationally - you can review a total listing of contacts re: the two main spa/fitness concessions inside my How the Heck to Get a Job on a Cruise Ship Guide - getalifeatsea.com/how-the-heck-to-get-a-job-on-a-cruise-ship-guide/ re: payment it does vary a bit from concession to concession and line to line - but ballpark most likely would be in the 1000-2000+ USD range + tips (re: personal training etc).

    Hi Amanda, I have been watching your videos and I'm curious if you can give me some particular information regarding both specific line, and job. I just received an offer of employment to work for Norwegian. I have been researching, and it seems like they have an abundance of negative comments from employees. Do you have any information regarding them, as a company, compared to others. And secondly, can you give me any specific information regarding the Casino jobs, I am a dealer, and am wondering if the quality of life may be different for this position as opposed to others, i.e time off, pay, etc. Thank you in advance.

    • @gdyup5026
      @gdyup5026 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Gdyup50 I just remembered, I forgot to mention, maybe you can give me some insight on this. I also applied for Royal Caribbean, had my 1st interview over Skype, and was told I was forwarded for a final interview. Received an email to setup a time for my final interview and then never heard anything else from them. I messaged them over Skype and asked them if I was still in the pipeline, and was told to keep looking for an email, and they were waiting for another hire date or something. This was back in October and I haven't heard anything since. Should I assume I have been passed over, or is this length of time hearing nothing something that is normal. I was contacted quickly by NCL when I applied, and was surprised to have an offer letter a few days later, so there's a difference there. Thank you again for any help you can offer...

    • @Getalifeatsea
      @Getalifeatsea  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Gdyup50 Hey there thanks for watching! I haven't worked for NCL myself but I have heard satisfactory reviews from other crew who have completed contracts with them. Casino in general (on all ships) is a pretty great gig as the casinos have to be closed while in port. As such casino staff tend to get really excellent port time (with all companies). Pay does vary from cruise line to cruise line however ballpark I believe you would be looking at somewhere between $800-1200$ USD per month to start as a new hire.

    • @Getalifeatsea
      @Getalifeatsea  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Gdyup50 Did you apply directly through RCCL or via your country's official RCCL hiring partner? November can be a really really really busy time for the offices (in prep for December hiring needs) so perhaps your email hasn't been sent yet and or perhaps it is in your junk/promotions folder. Quite often major cruise lines have such large servers that their emails can end up in these folders. Do a double check and also let me know if you initially were dealing direct with the RCCL office or a hiring partner. Chat soon! Feel free to comment here or email me direct at info@getalifeatsea.com

    • @gdyup5026
      @gdyup5026 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Get a Life at Sea hi Amanda, I applied directly through the Rccl website. also since my post I have heard from both companies. Norwegian says I am basically hired pending physical and background checks but am waiting for an opening, and Rccl said they are in a hiring freeze right now but am on the list...thanks for responding.

    • @gdyup5026
      @gdyup5026 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Gdyup50 Amanda I thought of another question, if I am hired by Norwegian out of Miami, does that mean I would be based on ships out of Miami? or is it possible that I would get a European Cruise? and if so, would they fly me to say Barcelona to get on a ship there? Or do they staff those ships out of Europe? thanks again
