10-13 hours was the norm when I was there. The exceptions are jobs like working in the duty free shops, casino...any department that isn't allowed to be open while the ship is in port. The longest, hardest, hours are worked by the people that the passengers rarely see.

To answer your question though - actually if you work for a concession first there is often a contract clause which states that you will not be able to work directly for the line (in another role) for at least 1 year from the date that you finished your concession contract. You can of course get hired usually very easily after you work for a concession by a non affiliated cruise line though - which is what I would recommend if you were planning on starting with a concession and then moving into a different direct hired role by the line. Great question! It really depends on the cruise line a bit - however, generally cruises are 7-10 days in duration with 3-4 sea days and 3-4 port days. Sea days are quite long for youth staff - usually 3 split shifts of 3-4 hours each. Port days are not as busy with kids as usually parents take them off the ship to enjoy the port - however, youth staff will rotate in the centres to accommodate in port babysitting and events. Not a full roster is required though which means that typically most youth staff get 1-2 half days off per cruise (or perhaps even a full day off the ship) however if you get a full day off the ship you will most likely work that evening for 3-4 hours - hence 7 day a week position - as are all cruise ship roles. Hey there Kayla - salaries differ a bit based on your country of origin - but I would say you could expect anywhere between an 800-1200 USD a month start point + tips. And yes, there are breaks on port days taken in a rotational basis with other members of your team.
