OK now talk about gifted. You have a God-given gift, so please don’t underestimate yourself. As Artist we can always find a reason to be better, but the truth is you’ve got this. And you’re incredible teacher thank you for sharing this video. I’m getting so much out of it.
Every time you add a color i say nooo, and then it turns amazing then you add another layer and i say nooo it’s perfect and you make it more perfect and dramatic, every artist has their own skills and ways to draw and express themselves and you’re one of the bests
This is one of the most detailed painting you have ever done the depth in the skin is almost touchable and so realistic….your an absolute fantastic painter.
Just keep working, it takes time and remember, you can't paint it unless you can see it in your mind. You are still young and have time painting to invest.
Thanks for the inspiration. I always find i am drawn between trying to recreate photo realism in a painting and letting my wild creative side loose letting the painting show my personality. I love watching your journey
Thanks for showing ur art and how u work ..helps many of us struggling artist to keep going with new techniques....much appreciated...wishing u great success ..keep doing what u love..great art
This makes me emotional to look at. I feel humbled seeing such a magnificent creature. I know it's a painting, but there's so much life in his trunk. It reminds me of my husband's trips to Africa, like I'm seeing the pics there, only I see them in more detail in your painting. It's better than a photograph. It feels more life like and transports me there. Very well done ❤️
You are absolutely right, there are many artists better than you. But I have never seen any artist who is more transparent with the techniques, honest with the mistakes and more hardworking than you. I learn a lot from you ♥
Love watching your development process, including the bits that you add and then take away. It's easy to look at a beautiful finished painting and believe the artist had a definite path to follow, so it's encouraging to see your thought processes. Thanks for sharing your journey.
You are my favorite realistic artist. Your the best I've ever seen. I couldn't imagine seeing these in person. I'm not sure who you're comparing yourself to but sincerely you are one of the best. Congratulations on this outstanding piece of art.
Very nice work! I like watching your videos because of your wonderment discovering ideas that us oldens have known for years. I've painted with acrylics since '77, and layered oils on top of them the past 30 years (hyper-realistic work), so I'm glad you realized the benefits of applying oil for depth and beautifully glowing rich color. Keep up the great work because you keep wowing us onlookers with each video!
You are very inspirational. I am new to painting and prefer oil over acrylics yet your techniques in combining the two now have me reassessing my position. Eye-opening! Thanks so much.
Wow, this painting is incredible. You show that majestic animal in all its wrinkled, creased glory, the detail is amazing! You are an awesome and talented artist.
You, sir, are INCREDIBLE, i truly love your work and your commentary you explain everything in a way that even people like me who has ZERO artistic ability can understand, kudos to friend 👏 ❤ Please believe in yourself and your talent, you STAND OUT as do your paintings.
WOW ! Fantastic! It’s alive! You have great feeling for all the animals you paint. The love of your subject really shines through.love your work. Thank you for sharing your talent with us ❤x
I am so in love with this! I do photo realistic animals in colored pencil and a liquid medium to work it as paint. Sadly I oil painted for land and seascapes 25 to 30 years ago but my lungs have deteriorated to the point I can no longer work with the solvents.
Wow, very talented. The details in the paintings are amazing. I just watched the video where you taught how to draw water. And found many other good videos. so I clicked and then got many techniques from this channel. Thank you.
2:27 YOU ARE one if those unbelievable artists!! Your paintings are so realistically beautiful! Im 13 and I really hope to paint like you one day, and watching the process helps me understand how making these mind blowing is possible >_
Happy painting. ... Remember: even if you are not happy with a piece, and this happens to all of us, ... you can always re-work areas later, to create a true Masterpiece. 💜
My guy! I enjoy your videos. I’ve always been an sketch artist. I’m trying to learn how to paint and your paintings are awesome! Especially with oils over acrylics. It’s truly amazing. I’m glad u acquired that skill. Good for you 😊 I thank u for making these videos. I hope one day I can be a full time artist myself!!! Cheers and God bless
Great to see you using this technique. I have just done a painting using the same idea of 2 Orcas under water and it has to turned out very effective. Love this one of yours. Listening to you talk about your ideas for a painting is exactly how I feel. Thank you.
Oh Daniel I can’t believe how critical you are of yourself. This is amazing. Your patience has no end. I love that you trying oils but I’m sad that you might prefer them to acrylics and I don’t want to lose you in this process. Top job, just stunning 🥰
Watching this has been incredibly inspirational! I am in the beginning stages of Painting my little dog, my life line, who died less than one month ago. I was debating on wether I would paint her in acrylics or oil, but now I definitely will do oil on top of acrylics for all the reasons you mentioned here, but especially the more brightness of the colours. This elephant gives me the illusion of her running right into my living room!
I appreciate your step by step improving painting techniques and as well as your art journey, you are also one of a best motivator in those to me ♥️ Thank you, love from Sri Lanka 🇱🇰
Lovely job. I painted with oils as a kid - badly ... due to no training, however I became a professional Graphic Designer and Illustrator, after I left High School. Years later I changed professions, and began acrylic and Chalk Pastel work as my hobby. After just moving into my own place, I'm setting up my new Studio to return to oils, after all this time. I have a big journey of discovery ahead, but you have given me some helpful insights into what I am in for. Thanks so much. Originally born in Zimbabwe, your painting reminds me of world famous painter David Sheppard's work, which I am intimately familiar with, in his work on elephants and other African wildlife. His paintings were the rage growing up, and all my family had a print of his work. He tended to mix colours on the canvas, which is a very difficult skill, but he found that his colours stayed consistent that way. I don't know if I am that brave to attempt that just yet. The addition of glazed atmospheric dust, over the background mountains was perfect. It greyed back the prominence, pushing forward the animal, as well as added to the dusty atmosphere. Thankyou Daniel for the post, I am truly inspired. 💜🎨🐘
this is so beautiful. I love all your paintings but this one is the best. You inspired me to paint a tiger. and was so pleased with the result. I always paint oil over acrylic and everyone says my paintings are so much better. I look forward to more from you.
Truly amazing. You really got to transport the viewer to the scene. I'd love to paint along with you and learn how you make your fantastic paintings. Congratulations 🎉
Beautiful work man! As an artist myself I totally understand the feeling of "imposter syndrome"! Even though I have been painting now for 25 years, I still sometimes doubt my skills. One good thing that comes from that feeling is that I'm never complacent, and I'm constantly striving to improve!
Hi that was simple amazing that is in my opinion a high level of skill you can see every single detail in this painting 🖼️ simply amazing David ✍️✍️❤️👌🇬🇧👍
Hi Daniel , wow ! Just wow !! I've often wondered if you can paint over acrylics . The extra depth and detail you've created is stunning . . Simply stunning . If this is your first , then keep them coming . You have indeed found an extra hidden talent with oils . I just love it 😊
This is such an amazing piece! You have been my main source of inspiration and such an idol to me. I started looking into my art more seriously since watching you, and your tips and techniques are so helpful. Keep up the amazing artwork!
That is fabulous. I love the colors and the intensity of the elephant moving out from the scene towards the viewer. I am going to try this technique. I usually paint in acrylic but someone gave me their oil paints. I have been too intimidated to try it. I think I will do something simple like a closeup of an owl face. Thanks for the inspiration.
I love oils, just so expensive and the dry time. I just made a great fur brush! I had a too soft fan brush, so I cut half the length and point cut the ends and BOOM! Making German Shephard hair in half the time! I paint a lot of animals, I seem to be better at it than landscapes, even though I LOVE landscapes. You have been a true teacher to me. Thank you Sensei! The elephant is of course, AMAZING! I love how your trying a new challenge! My son just sent me some gouche, I am thinking about a cool way to use that! You should call that Elephant....EPIC!
It's awesome. Love the lighting effects. You are right about the distant hills. You could put it in Photoshop and try either desaturating them, adding more distant trees in front, or angling them away so they don't form a line across the painting. At the risk of being macabre, you could also try making the birds more vulture-like. But overall, it's great.
Hi Daniel 😊 this video totally resonates with me, I’ve been in a funk lately feeling like a small fish in a big ocean however I’ve recently started playing with oils and learning how to use acrylics with oils and I’m now taking time to just play and experiment, to try and find my own style that’s different to everyone else. This painting is incredible and I hope you are very proud. I always recognise your work on socials before I see your name, even when you try different things. Your style is awesome and I really admire your work 😊
Thanks Sophie! I think the best way to get out of a funk is to just do something just for fun and try something new. Glad you enjoyed the video and happy painting! I’ll definitely be doing more videos in acrylics and oils so if I figure out any tricks I’ll share them 👍
I love the cinematic music at the end. It really suits the piece! Beautiful elephant and who knows, I might venture into the world of oils one day...sticking with acrylics for now though ;).
Je suis d'accord avec toi,le problème avec les glacis c'est que ce n'est jamais fini 'il faut ce donner des limites car cela peut devenir une obsession . Beau travail.🌀
I agree about the horizon. distracted from the Elephant.. I too still working to improve my work came across such a problem. I used "Dollar Tree " Awesome " Stain and Rug cleaner. to wipe out what I did not like the next day.. I pre treat my canvas with Rust-Oleum Flat white, several layers, sanding in between. Acrylic had changed their formula, and many people had noticed the paint was rubbing off, and for some Flaking off. So far I am happy with results, except when I stepped on a ground bee nest. Many of my canvases were layered with Bees, and by the time I noticed what was happening , and why I kept feel needle pricks.. Just glad I was not allergic.

Oil over Acrylic has been done like 70 years ago but each Artist hand is Unique. You have done an Excellent Job 😊
Hello, I gave you 'a Like', even though Acrylic Paints were invented around 1948, and not '...a hundred years ago'
(going on memory here).
Fantastic painting!!! Looks like a photograph from afar!! I'm a 67 year old artist myself and greatly admire your work
You are absolutely right, there are many artists better than you. But I have never seen any artist who is more transparent with the techniques, honest with the mistakes and more hardworking than you. I learn a lot from you ♥
Looks great and glad you took out the mother and baby. It really took the focus from the main elephant.
This is magnificent Daniel! What a majestic elephant he is, & you’ve really brought him to life!
Your paintings are dynamic and amazing . You put your heart and soul into each one
I love this oil over acrylic technique. Really brings the elephant to life. Great job
