    Hey BY THE WAY if you haven’t heard I’m on Pinterest and just shared an idea pin of how to preserve the curly blowout throughout the week, check it out here for the tutorial: pin.it/16v4PtF

      I learned from a Dominican stylist years ago to tie the hair in a high bun, wrap the end of your hair in and secure with a pin. No touch ups needed 🙂

    I silk press my 3c hair about once a month. I thought I’d leave some tips for tighter curls for anyone in the comments that cares.
    I use the Its a ten keratin leave in and Paul Mitchell super skinny serum on damp hair then I blow dry. Then I flat iron. I spray each section with Paul Mitchell Neuro Heat protectant before I pass the iron through. This gives that silky shiny look that lasts a week! The 410 setting is best for tighter curls too, and an iron with titanium plates gives the sleekest look.

    I grew up doing blow outs. As an adult I switched to the flat iron. Now that I’m older I think I prefer the volume, bounce and personality of a blow out much more than just straight. Thanks! I needed that advice on getting those rollers!

    Definitely team Blow Out! When I straighten my hair out, because of my fine texture, it always looks like I don’t have that much hair. I love the voluptuous, bouncy curls from a blow out. Haven’t tried the Velcro rollers yet but need to grab some of those.

  • @emilyfurda
    @emilyfurda 2 ปีที่แล้ว +45

    Using the Velcro rollers is genius.
    Am I the odd one? I’ve never wanted to do a blowout or silk press. I just love my curls. I’m also kind of afraid people will say they like the blowout better & I’ll feel insecure. 😂
    I did flat iron it once on a dare to only send a pic to one friend. It was so not me. She laughed so hard.

      Emily, I had phases where I needed a change and wore my hair straight (even though I love my curls). Almost EVERYONE said I look better with straight hair. After about 1 year or so I decided I will wear my hair curly again and the SAME people told me I look better with curly hair. :D I think people just react to new things on you. :D

  • @MsSavvy9
    @MsSavvy9 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    Not that I am any kind of expert, but I would like to share my methods. I do start with hair that has been given the full spa treatment: scalp treatment, cleanse, deep condition, and oil or leave in conditioner. Then I braid it tightly, sometimes one braid sometimes two, while it's still wet and let it air dry. This reduces the amount of heat that I need to use on my hair but trains the hair to lay smooth-ish. When dry I use another heat treatment and flat iron or a 1-1/2" curling iron for that blow out big wave look. My hair type is 3B and I have a waist length V cut. I have Hashimotos and a partial Thyroidectomy so I struggle with breakage along my hairline and try to be gentle to keep my length.. I only use a blow dryer when I am touching up and using dry shampoo. I thought it was worth mentioning this little tweak can help someone. 🤷🏽‍♀️

    I've never seen anyone use my trick when I straighten my hair. I sit in front of a cold fan the whole time. I wait a few seconds between sections to let it cool. Mine lasts up to a week ( it's greasy by then but still flat and shiny)

    I used to be silk pressin' on the weekly, but have been wearing my hair curly full time for the past three years. I only ever have a blow-out done when I go to the hairdresser once every six months so that they can make sure they've cut my hair properly. I do want to get into blow-outs and possibly silk pressing again because I like having variety. We're pretty lucky that we can have that variety 😊

    I've only ever straightened my hair a handful of times, the last time over 15 yrs ago. I have fine-ish strands, with VERY fine strands around my face. That's also my curliest section nowadays but back then, my front had a looser curl. However, my front pieces would NOT remain straight for more than a few hours. I could never figure out why that was. I always just blamed humidity (I'm in FL), but I didn't know anything about fine hair and hadn't even heard about porosity back then.... But now I'm getting the answers as to why my fine, highpo strands just didn't take to straightening...interesting as always!! Thanks Mell!

    You need BETTER products BEFORE you start the blow out or silk press. Try using something like CHI or Deeper Than Hair Shampoo and Conditioner before applying the heat. Your hair should have been silky smooth with the silk press. The blow out did not come out as straight as it it was supposed to either. The products (Shampoo, Conditioner, and Treatment(s)) before applying heat to your hair is what determines how well the blow out or silk press will turn out. I think you should try different products and do this AGAIN! Please stop damaging your hair.

    Happy texture tuesday! I've been waiting for the new vid to drop! Ik this is off topic but I have a question mell, my scalp has been hurting a lot these days and I'm not sure why, it hurts like someone has pulled on my hair but I'm not doing any hairstyles that would hurt my scalp. I noticed it's been hurting when I wrap my hair in a scarf at night but it makes no sense since I havent been pulling on my hair or anything when I put it in a scarf. Do you know any reasons why I could be getting scalp pain? Thanks!

    I like both, but also like body so I do like your silky curly side you didn't use the flat iron for. I'm scared of those curlers though. I wanted to know how to protect my flat ironed hair from heat, because I don't flat iron my hair much. It's good to know I could just use my Aveda Replenish spray leave in conditioner.

    Some great tips here i can share with my stylist if I ever decide to do another blowout or silk press. My problem is that I’m super picky about how my blowouts & silk presses. I want a very specific look at the end of the service. I want to leave my appointment looking like my hair grew out of my head straight. I know this is the main culprit to why my hair was damaged like it was. So I have abstained from straightening my hair because I hate frizzy volume and when my silk press isn’t sleek and shiny. I rather not inflict the damage on my fine color treated hair to preserve my go to curly hair looks.

    I dont have layers anymore, so I usually just do silk press. If only I could have volume with length. When I was in school, I'd carry a hairspray and flip my hair upside down in the bathroom regularly to keep it bigger lol 😆 I think I went to the bathroom for my hair more than actually using the bathroom haha

    I like the blow out better. But I also like speed. So silk side wins for that reason. I use the L’ange “hot comb” that’s got teeth to grin my hair as I go down the length. Just wish I knew ew if it was killing my hair with that heat

    I've been doing old school roller sets on my long fine hair. It's the same texture as yours. I love it and it feels stronger. Could you do a tutorial?

    I can't do a blowout on myself. After so many tries my hair just stays frizzy and poofy all over. I end up having to flat iron anyway.

    Have you tried the new revlon one step blow out dryer brush thing? (Def not the official name lmao) I haven’t seen it done on curly hair and I don’t have the coordination to blow out with my dyson!!

    Chile this is how erasure starts. First the "curly girl method" now they're taking silk press from the natural community smh

    That’s not a silk press. Where’s the silk? Where’s the press? It’s still frizzy and puffy

    What kind of comb did you say it needed to be?
    Also, if we don’t have that comb attachment for the Dyson, would using the attachment from the blowout side and then the flat iron work?

    Hey mell. Did you add a temporary hair dye recently or did you add a new colour? Seems more on the pink side and I'm loving the colour

    You look different with straight wavy hair. You look so pretty either way.

    Sill press is usually on a much higher heat too lol, if you talk to stylist OC whom do them in POC, gotta use a high heat. I would like to see you use a higher heat with that flat iron...

    This helped me finally know why I can never get a non puffy and heavy silk press! 😔 my hair is super fine but dense.

    i like to do silk presses but uh i don't have a smaller nozzle to direct heat to blow dry it first. so my silk pressin isn't that great.
    Sad but true .
