And just so you know, Johnny was a trainee for 9 years because his parents only allowed him to train in the summer when he wasn't in school. During the school year he lived in Chicago and attended school in the U.S., but he would spend his summers living in Korea and training with SM. Therefore, it took him a little extra time to amass the same amount of trainee period as someone who was a trainee full time. (Nine years was actually the equivalent of about 2 or 3 years for the average trainee, because he was only able to do it for about 3 months at a time.) I actually think it shows that he is even more talented than most because his trainee days were split up in small chunks and he had to work hard to catch up with the other trainees every summer. Plus, SM must have seen his potential from an early age because he started as a trainee when he was barely a teenager and they worked around his time schedule and allowed him to keep training with them for 9 years. Normally when someone is a trainee for that long, a company will decide they aren't worth spending the time and effort on and they will be dismissed from the training program because they aren't progressing fast enough, etc.
Interesting, wow. Are they paid to be trainees? I ask that because how else are these people able to afford for things while in a trainee program? They’re not allowed to have jobs, right?
@@marcogennuso No they aren't paid to be trainees, but that is why most Idols come from very affluent families. Plus, the company they are a trainee under is the one that pays for everything they need to be a trainee, besides travel expenses to get to Korea. (I'm pretty sure Johnny's family, and any trainee like him, paid for their own travel expenses to come to Korea every year.) The company pays for all your training, classes, food, living expenses, etc. once you are in Korea and participating in the training program. That is one reason why trainees who don't have family that live in or near Seoul, and most idols, live in dorms for years because their apartments are owned by the company. Everything they need to live and be an idol for the first few years is paid for by the company. An Idol spends years after they debut paying the company back for all the expenses they incur while they are a trainee and their first few years after debut. That is why idols work so hard because the faster they are able to become popular and really start to make a lot of money, the sooner they will start to be able to earn a living. For the first few years after debut, most of what an Idol makes on album sales, appearances, product endorsements, variety show appearances, etc. goes back to the company to pay off their debts. Once an idol has paid off all their debts, then a percentage of what they make becomes their salary. For SM, and most Korean entertainment companies, the breakdown is usually 60-40 for their first 7 year contract. 60% goes back to the company and 40% goes to the members as their wage. So the more popular you can become and the more projects you are involved in -- endorsement deals, modeling, cast members on variety shows, Radio DJs, acting roles, etc. -- the more money you make and the more financially independent you become. Once an idol has become popular enough and is making a good paycheck they rely less on their company to provide certain things for them, such as they hire their own staff, etc. For example, most of SM's older group members hire and pay their own staff, such as managers and stylists, etc. Those types of jobs are no longer something SM necessarily has to provide for them. Which is why idols from big name companies, like SM, are better off than idols from smaller companies that might be struggling, because they don't have to spend quite as much time and effort to get their name and face out there in order to make money as they pay off debt and help the company finance their next project.
@@marcogennuso Trainees whose families aren't well off and/or are members of smaller struggling companies often talk about how they had part time jobs while they were also going to school and a trainee, etc. Although companies prefer you focus on your training as a way to prove your dedication, that isn't always possible for everyone. For example, one of the new SMRookies revealed he worked at McDonalds as a part time job while he was a trainee, which has been getting mixed reactions from people. It shouldn't be that big of a deal, but with the idol culture, some people treat it as a minor sandal because, as ridiculous as it seems, it makes him more human and less idol-like.
yes, 23 as of today but there's (apparently) 3 more members coming soon, they performed with shotaro and sungchan (the members who aren't in this guide) a few days ago

Nct 127: Guide to Nct 127 by SsNo00nPey Nct Dream: Guide to Nct Dream 2021 by oppsiedaisy WayV: Unhelpful Guide to Wayv 2021 by Lao Gan Mao Shotaro and Sungchan are the new members and there aren't really any good guides for them yet so here's some basics: Shotaro: '00 liner, amazing dancer (was in a dance crew in Japan), Japanese, literally friends with every Nct member because he's so cute and friendly. Was in Make a Wish, Universe, and Connextion. Sungchan: '01 liner, the only Virgo in Nct, super tall, rapper, was in 90s Love and Misfit, I don't know much about his personality but he's always just happy to be there
Mark graduating from Dream is really emotional because not all the time Mark has to get to work with DREAM unless it's an NCT U release (and dream members barely participate on that) so that's why fans are so sad about it (That time)
actually for people who don't know SM ent. it might seem like that. But people who know SM and the artists themselves knew that they possibly have no future after graduating. Mark graduated and it was sad because Dream members grew up with him, they were supposed to be always together as a group, having no idea that their group will have this system. In 2020, four members turned adults leaving 2 members alone. If 4 members graduated, Haechan would have 127, but rest members had nowhere to go as there was no unit for them yet and sm is known for not giving a shit about such situations. They would have been inactive until new unit or maybe more years, not making music unless it's nct comeback as a whole. and 2 Dream members would have had no activities too. It wasn't just for fans, but Mark and Haechan value Dream more than any other unit. They also stated many times that they wanna be with Dream forever and choose to be 7 more than anything. SM made the choice because of them, it's very clear sm doesn't care about fans opinion.
11:32 tbh we all thought like you at the beginning like mark would be still at nct it’s fine but it actually wasn’t FINE, they already promoted together for like 4 years when he graduated and mark was the oldest, always taking the lead so they were quite lost when he was longer there and due to their overlapping schedules they rarely had a chance to meet him and i think that’s when it hit them that this shit wasn’t gonna be easy and they were all having mental breakdowns at 2019 because some of the members didn’t have an existing unit other than dream and they were worried about which unit they’ll go to or maybe sm would leave them with no unit for like another 4 years and they even said it felt like graduation was gonna be the end of their career cus sm was failing miserably in planning their future after dream, i was mostly sad because it was obvious they were having a very difficult time and tbh they were just kids when they debuted together and they only had each other cus they couldn’t really go to school and they grew up together so I guess they wanted to keep performing as childhood friends together so really it was devastating for them and for us, they even said that they have bad memories with the word graduation and they don’t like to use it 😭 like you had to be there to actually understand 😭
These boys are so adorable, liking them is like liking 23 lil brothers that I don't want to have because it'll be chaotic but can't help adoring them and missing them once they out of the house.
I love your NCT reactions and can't wait for more! When the video mentioned NCT as being TH-camrs, it's the truth. Actually, Taeyong started his own TH-cam channel called TY Track (also his own Instagram, SoundCloud, and TikTok). I REALLY can't wait for you to check out his work! He writes and produces so much great music! Unfortunately, most of it is still unreleased. I will recommend Taeyong's "Long Flight," "Lonely," "Love Theory," and "Ghost" for starters! His SoundCloud songs are also wonderful! Although he writes a lot for his groups NCT and SuperM, his solo stuff has a different feel, and he plays with a variety of genres and themes. Thanks!
The entire concept of NCT is that it's an unlimited group. SM's goal is for there to be a unit in every major country eventually. When they announced the newest SM Rookies you would not believe the hyperventilating and shock from some fans that omgnctisbigenoughwhatissmdoingggggggg that ensued, it was pretty hilarious. It's literally their concept, people. 😑 Not to mention that we've known a Japanese unit was on the horizon for a couple of years now. With NCT you gotta stay flexible tho, they are an ever-evolving group... while there are currently the 3 fixed units, they're not set in stone either... SM has already demonstrated that they can and will add and trade members on occasion. Basically SM's like, "it's more what you'd call guidelines than actual rules." said in their best Barbossa voice. 😄
Marco I really loved your reaction, one of the best I've ever seen. You were so attentive and genuinely interested in what you were watching, thank you💚💚💚💯
You explaining your thoughts about when you first watched Chewing Gum made me laugh so hard😂😂 And then the guide said “they are the same people” and I laughed even harder
Just to explain why Lucas wants to be in Dream, it's because him and Mark are same aged so he thought he will be joining in NCT Dream but he is so tall and kinda matured looking on his age, they did not include him in the line up of Dream. He joined SM entertainment as model but they choose him to be trained as an idol so he only have started training at 2016 which the Dream already debuted. About Johnny, the reason why he trained for 8-9 years is because he flies back and forth from Chicago and Seoul. He only do his training during his acad breaks because he wanted to graduatr first. He also trained with EXO members and i read somewhere that he learned a bit chinese because he was supposed to debut with EXO - M (chinese subgroup of EXO). Chenle joined SM in 2016. He only trained for 2-3 months before they debuted.
If You Ask Me Sometimes These Guides Don’t Really Show You Potential Of All The Members. I Agree With You! I Thought Johnny Was A Actor When I Got Into NCT, Also Please Check Out Things On All The Members.
The nct dream graduation system was a nightmare for all fans of dream and for the members themselves. They were so uncertain of their future due to being mistreated by the company and were heartbroken about being split up with their best friends. A lot of people who were only fans of dream were upset too because it’s basically disbandment. It was such a hard time for the nct dream members who cried so hard bc of the uncertainties they felt
ok but that Yuta clip where he was wearing that Phoenix sash (from their tour when they went there as the first kpop in Arizona! and I was there! ^^) still takes me out because 1) I'm from Phoenix/Arizona and 2) Arizona is literally known for being a DESERT and he could've chosen anything to bs and he chose that 🤣🤣🤣 funniest bs-ing he's ever done and I love him for that also shout out to my Leo buddies Mark, Jaemin, and Xiaojun sometimes I do really relate to some of the things they're really "going through" in these videos I love them lol
Thank you for the reaction... But this guide doesn't do justice to many members like Yuta, Kun , Jaehyun, Jungwoo by not focusing on who they are but more on famous fandom tropes... But if you found this guide useful and enjoyed it then it's completely fine because in the end it's about getting familiar with them
I'm going to be reacting to individual guides as well.....but also I started a series called A Journey With....where I focus on individual members from groups. So far I've done D.O. of EXO! But I'm going to do one for everyone. Even NCT 😭😭😂😂😂
Agreed. I felt the same way for Winwin's section, as well as the ones you've mentioned, but I do appreciate all the work and effort that went into the guide regardless
@@marcogennuso oh wow I did see the D.O guide... I really appreciate your dedication to go through all 23 members of NCT and counting as well as all the other groups
I dont know if anyone mentioned this already but for some reason, the guides always make this mistake. Jaehyun's official position is actually the main vocalist of NCT 127 NCT U 🥲
1:29:02 you should check Henry Lau out. He's a kpop idol (was part of Super Junior) who plays the violin and some other instruments, and he often do it on stage. An all-rounder.
@@marcogennuso SM unfortunately very heavily plays favourites and tends to give the same handful of members the majority of lines, screen- and center time (absolutely not blaming said members though, as that is in no way their choice) and giving what is left to the remaining members and some even barely get anything more often than not sadly... especially when every single member in NCT is incredibly talented and could very easily be a main or lead vocal, rapper or dancer if they were given the chance to shine :(
@@Kalakeiko i don't think its favoritism, sad to say SM always gives more lines to a certain member who is more popular a member who sell more.. business bruh.. business.. 💰 but if you listen to their b-tracks they have more lines especially the vocal line..
@@xYD8o1x But in that case members like Winwin, Jungwoo, Jaemin and Johnny for example should get more lines and screen/center time, since they're really popular. Especially Winwin, he's by far the most popular member of NCT in China and has a big and very loyal fanbase that contributes the most in WayV's sales (at least according to statistics I've seen) which of course benefits NCT as a whole as well
I'll do individual guide reactions as well, although now that I've learnt about the newer members that have joined NCT, I might have to dedicate a reaction video to them (ITS ONLY FAIR) 😂😭😭😭💛

Sorry for the wait haha. I think because this guide is missing some of the more recent members, I'll have to do another (mini) guide reaction on those guys 😂😂😂
ummm…it’s NOT much ACTUALLY. as the concept was back then, he was basically OUT of Dream & wouldn’t be able to make songs with dream members unless it was NCT U. which is still not the same feeling because it wouldn’t be ALL the dream members. & that also meant he wouldn’t be on tour & participating with the dream members. so once again, NO, it’s not a bit much. & it’s not something u should even speak on as u weren’t even there to know how it felt between the members & the fans.
As an ADULT who has had many people COME and GO in life - through work/school/family/friends - I can speak on it all I want lol. My reaction, my take. Trust me when I say it's fine lol 😂👍🏻
@@marcogennuso also, as an ADULT, I could care less. it ain’t about u simple as that. so like me & the other person said, it’s not much & u just simply don’t understand. & u got called out on it.
10:49 & 59:11 It's not that simple.. NCT 127 / NCT Dream or WayV only promote and do activities with their respective unit only. They are like completely different group most of the time. They do tours, shows ,endorsement and spend time together with their unit members only. They make songs and comeback only with their unit. Whereas Nct U get together and comeback only once a year.. And they don't do any other activities outside. And since the concept of nct u is members who fits the concept of the song, they never know who is gonna be doing with who as they have 23 members.. Each unit dorm is different So they live separately. They hardly meet as they are busy with their own unit. They only meet once in a while for nct TH-cam content. But Mark and Haechan is in both NCT 127 & Nct Dream. So both of them are busy as bee and hardly have any free time..
BTW - I just filmed another NCT MV marathon so look out for that! Should be dropping in a day or two!! ❤😊

Also in the interview of super junior leeteuk mention that every artist in sm has a shares in the company.....
yes, 23 as of today but there's (apparently) 3 more members coming soon, they performed with shotaro and sungchan (the members who aren't in this guide) a few days ago
If you feel like you need more information, I reccomend reacting to individual guides for each of the units.
Nct 127: Guide to Nct 127 by SsNo00nPey
Nct Dream: Guide to Nct Dream 2021 by oppsiedaisy
WayV: Unhelpful Guide to Wayv 2021 by Lao Gan Mao
Shotaro and Sungchan are the new members and there aren't really any good guides for them yet so here's some basics:
Shotaro: '00 liner, amazing dancer (was in a dance crew in Japan), Japanese, literally friends with every Nct member because he's so cute and friendly. Was in Make a Wish, Universe, and Connextion.
Sungchan: '01 liner, the only Virgo in Nct, super tall, rapper, was in 90s Love and Misfit, I don't know much about his personality but he's always just happy to be there
Thank you for the recommendations!! I'm gonna do a guide reaction to each of those!!!! 🥰💛💛💛
Those are good guides. Much more info about each units :)
We are getting 3 more members at the end of the year & a possibly another sub unit.
SUPER EXCITED

Mark graduating from Dream is really emotional because not all the time Mark has to get to work with DREAM unless it's an NCT U release (and dream members barely participate on that) so that's why fans are so sad about it (That time)
I totally get it now with more context lol. Thanks! 🥰
actually for people who don't know SM ent. it might seem like that.
Thanks for the context! 💛✌🏻
This. 😃
Thanks!
mark is a very lovely young lad with so much potential and I cannot wait to see how he grows alongside all the other talented NCT members💚💚
Yesss I’m so happy you’re doing NCT, one of my faves
Yesssss thanks for watching! More NCT in a day or two 💛🥰
OMG I'm so excited, thank you for guiding NCT 🤗
Thank you for watching!! 💛💛💛
I'll happily join NCT if they need any European or Canadian members 😭😭😂😂 I might be too distracted to get any work done though 😭😭😂
Marco I really loved your reaction, one of the best I've ever seen. You were so attentive and genuinely interested in what you were watching, thank you💚💚💚💯
Omg thank you for watching!!! I get teary eyed reading these comments!!! 🥹🥹🥹
@@marcogennuso 😊💚 btw, your chewing gum being "child actors playing children versions of the members" interpretation cracked me up so much😆
Still makes my head spin Omg 😭😭😂
Omg yay!! So excited for this and the rest of your nct journey
Thank you for watching!! 💛💛💛
You explaining your thoughts about when you first watched Chewing Gum made me laugh so hard😂😂 And then the guide said “they are the same people” and I laughed even harder
😂😂😭😭
TEN Leechaiyapornkul He's so cute
Welcome to xiaojun’s eyebrows fanclub
😭😂😂😂😂
If You Ask Me Sometimes These Guides Don’t Really Show You Potential Of All The Members. I Agree With You! I Thought Johnny Was A Actor When I Got Into NCT, Also Please Check Out Things On All The Members.
Welcome to NCT WORLD 💚💚💚
Thank you for having me haha 💛
Jaehyun has a new solo that just dropped called 'Forever Only'. You should check it out, it's really good.
I didn't know thaaaaaaat, well now I have to if VenusMonkey is suggesting it 😭😂😂
@@marcogennuso 😆you know it!
44:16 Ten self-choreographed that dance
The nct dream graduation system was a nightmare for all fans of dream and for the members themselves. They were so uncertain of their future due to being mistreated by the company and were heartbroken about being split up with their best friends. A lot of people who were only fans of dream were upset too because it’s basically disbandment. It was such a hard time for the nct dream members who cried so hard bc of the uncertainties they felt
Omg tysm for this... nct is such a talented group and i love that you are sharing your journey with us nctzens...
Thank you for watching haha. Can't wait to post my next reaction video, I'm editing now lol.
Amé demasiado su reacción ¡Muchas gracias! 💚
Really enjoyed this reaction! 💚
Thank you for watching!! 💚
ok but that Yuta clip where he was wearing that Phoenix sash (from their tour when they went there as the first kpop in Arizona! and I was there! ^^) still takes me out because 1) I'm from Phoenix/Arizona and 2) Arizona is literally known for being a DESERT and he could've chosen anything to bs and he chose that 🤣🤣🤣 funniest bs-ing he's ever done and I love him for that
also shout out to my Leo buddies Mark, Jaemin, and Xiaojun sometimes I do really relate to some of the things they're really "going through" in these videos I love them lol
Leo's represent! 🔥🦁☀️
@@marcogennuso we're extra but that's what great about us 😜
Oh defffffinetly 😭😂😂😭😭
YESSS EXCITED TO WATCH THIS
Thank you for the reaction...
Thank you! It's a lot of work, more work than it shows honestly, but it's also a lot of fun! 🥰
Jaehyun is a main vocal not a lead he is one of my biases in 127
Yey! Thank You💚 My Fav. Group 💚💚💚
Hope you enjoy! I filmed another NCT video, should be up tomorrow hopefully!
I dont know if anyone mentioned this already but for some reason, the guides always make this mistake. Jaehyun's official position is actually the main vocalist of NCT 127 NCT U 🥲
I'm pretty sure I'll enjoy this reaction. A nice way to start my weekend. Let's gooo.
I hope you do haha 🙏🏻
@@marcogennuso I did. 🙂
1:29:02 you should check Henry Lau out. He's a kpop idol (was part of Super Junior) who plays the violin and some other instruments, and he often do it on stage. An all-rounder.
Thanks for that, I'm gonna have to! 🥰
Taeil is so talented...I hate that they don't show him much anywhere...even in title tracks he is hard to find...
Why is that??
@@marcogennuso SM unfortunately very heavily plays favourites and tends to give the same handful of members the majority of lines, screen- and center time (absolutely not blaming said members though, as that is in no way their choice) and giving what is left to the remaining members and some even barely get anything more often than not sadly... especially when every single member in NCT is incredibly talented and could very easily be a main or lead vocal, rapper or dancer if they were given the chance to shine :(
😩😩😩😩
@@Kalakeiko i don't think its favoritism, sad to say SM always gives more lines to a certain member who is more popular a member who sell more.. business bruh.. business.. 💰 but if you listen to their b-tracks they have more lines especially the vocal line..
@@xYD8o1x But in that case members like Winwin, Jungwoo, Jaemin and Johnny for example should get more lines and screen/center time, since they're really popular.
Especially Winwin, he's by far the most popular member of NCT in China and has a big and very loyal fanbase that contributes the most in WayV's sales (at least according to statistics I've seen) which of course benefits NCT as a whole as well
Awesome reaction! I was waiting for this one! Btw, are you going to react to individual guides for each subunit too or just NCT as a whole?
I'll do individual guide reactions as well, although now that I've learnt about the newer members that have joined NCT, I might have to dedicate a reaction video to them (ITS ONLY FAIR) 😂😭😭😭💛
Yes mark biased🤝
Yesssss 💛💛
Mark is my bias
New sub here. loved the reaction ;-)
Awwww thank you so much!! 🔥🔥❤️❤️
💚💚💚
Are you ready for NCT 140? 140 = (TOKYO)???? Because I'm not......... HAHAHA they just announced it officially... Have you checked the 3 new rookies? Fudge the visual its soo good and the i cant get over with the stage they have with Shotaro and Sungchan on SM concert they dance sooo well... Now NCT will have more members...? 23+3+?.... I hate math... Thanks for the long vids and since its long i forgot the things i want to comment hahaha and now im curious if they going to have Yuta on the NCT 140.... and will Johnny, Mark and Jaehyun join NCT HOLLYWOOD or their just going to debut the winners of the USA survival show for the Hollywood sub unit. When i learn EXO concept i am shook but now with NCT im speechless.. I don't know any more lol
NCT 140......you have to be joking right? 😭😭😭 Omg I caaaaant 🤯🤯🤯
@@marcogennuso hahah same reaction here.. I saw the list of SM artist up coming schedule.. And not sure what NCT 140 is hahaha
Where does one acquire such a list?? 🤓
@@marcogennuso haha i saw it on my feeds.. I dont know how they acquired them but you know how resourceful fans are hahaha.. and the NCT140 is all over Twitter.. NCT TOKYO has been long over due since the pandemic now thier pushing through.. Can you imagine the 127 on their 50's guiding and teaching the rookies that is born in year 2022 how to dance cherry bomb or kick it? hahaha thats really crazy... SM are crazy hahaha
Finalyyyyyyyyy
Sorry for the wait haha. I think because this guide is missing some of the more recent members, I'll have to do another (mini) guide reaction on those guys 😂😂😂
@@marcogennuso it's hard to find a good guide but i love your reaction like always
I'm gonna react to guides for the individual units, don’t worry ☺️
this took an hour 🤣😭😅
Did I just watch over an hour long video?
YEAH YOU DID
ummm…it’s NOT much ACTUALLY. as the concept was back then, he was basically OUT of Dream & wouldn’t be able to make songs with dream members unless it was NCT U. which is still not the same feeling because it wouldn’t be ALL the dream members.
My experience, my opinion, my reaction. That's how this works 🤗 Thanks for watching! 🥰
Please react to "Child" of Mark 💚✨
I already know/love that song haha 🥰
@@marcogennuso haha okay 💕 oh! maybe you could react to Touch from nct 127 if you haven't seen the mv yet 🤧
@@marcogennuso "Touch" is a really cute and soft song 🥺
I don’t think I've ever heard of that one haha. I'll have to check it out! 🙏🏻
@@marcogennuso yess ✨❤
DearDream is a song that I avoid listening to. because it makes me cry every time
I haven't heard that one yet!
@@marcogennuso 11:05
Yeah, I've never heard that song in full - only that tiny snippet from the guide!
So both of them are busy as bee and hardly have any free time..
actually bts's color is white not purple lolllll
"I purple you 💜"
43:18 so funny omg
