That spiral no heel sock is an old pattern. It was notably used as a surgical sock during the world wars. Great pattern, and deserves to be remembered. I am just glad it is free, and the designer isn't claiming it as her own inspiration.
I enjoy your podcasts so much. I love to try alternate heels, especially. I would like to suggest a free pattern called Kanteletar. It has a heel that is interesting, that looks like Vanilla is the New Black. There is also the HG heel sock on Ravelry. The heel/sole also is unique.
All of those patterns seems to be very interesting. I want to make my first pair of socks. Those no heel socks look like a good choice for beginners. Thanks!! 😁🧶🌻💕
Thanks for showing us all the neat socks. I love sock yarn, but I am so slow at knitting socks. I can knit heels, but then knitting the gusset seems like such a chore. I am going to try the sweet tomato heel, and maybe those swirly heel less socks.
Those Pole Dance socks with the two different marled gradient yarns 🤤 it just scratched an itch in my brain that I didn’t know was there 😂😅 Seeing as how that’s a freebie pattern, I may need to cast those on this weekend!
I know! I think I'm going to give the no heel socks a try but once I get some fun self-striping yarn I definitely want to knit the Pole Dance socks too!
I haven't done colorwork socks yet. I'm scared of the tension and fit issues. I just figured out why my lace socks were not fitting. My guage was very different for the lace from the stockinette. Colorwork is next.
Your tension will probably be different - I know mine is! Instead of the usual negative ease for Stockinette socks, I like to knit a circumference that's the same size as my foot if there's colorwork (since it doesn't stretch like Stockinette).

Thanks for the bit of history information!
As a long time sock knitter, this looks like a lot of fun. Thank you
I have an old Patons how-to book, and it has spiral bed socks knitted cuff down. They are just like the first no heel pattern!
Neat! I recently knit a pair and I'm surprised at how well they fit!
Great selection of alternative sock construction!
Such a fun topic!!
Thank you for the sock ideas.... I just started making socks again and want to try everything
I’ve never felt more ‘plain vanilla” in my sock knitting. Challenging ideas.
Thank you for the mention ❤
We also have the Stitch Surfer sock pattern which is very popular 😉

Thank you for the recommendations - I like to try out new heels too and those are new to me!
I've made no-heel socks before, and it's IMO one of the best 👌 to make
Good to know! I'm planning to knit some to try them out.
What's IMO ???

Hipsulaisen karuselli by Kati Koitto is another pattern that starts at the heel. It looks really weird but is fun to knit and fits nicely 😊
Thanks for the recommendation!
My daughter made the Cheshire Cat socks! She made them for her husband in Gryffindor colours!
Those sound like lovely socks!
This is a great video 😊
Thank you!
Regarding Solar Flares pattern, the heel looks like the Fleegle heel.
Bernat has a good cuff down spiral tube sock pattern for those that don't want to do toe up.
Thank you!

Do you have a video how to knit a fleegle heel?
This tutorial uses a fleegle heel - th-cam.com/video/xn6tqy8O_OI/w-d-xo.html
I'm very interested in knowing how socks with no heels fit.
Me too! I'm planning to knit a pair just to see (and I'll definitely make a video!).
Are you on raverly
I don't sell patterns on Ravelry.
