    he replaced the "brain" with a ESP32 and now this upscaler is in direct competition with the Framemmeister and OSSC (open source scan converter)

    15khz option means that it works as downscaler. I have one of these variations called ODV GBS-C AIO, and it also work as downscaler.

    Hello, it is an interesting project but I have some questions. In my opinion, the reason for using a scaler is not only to enlarge the image but also to generate an image (on LED TVs) that looks like the one We see on a CRT. I know this scaler can perform some type of scanline simulation. If this simulation is done well it can be interesting (that is, not only adding a black line but correctly simulating the blurring of the "pixels")... BUT, I AM MORE INTERESTED in DITHERING replication. The SEGA Megadrive/Genesis consoles exploited the presence of dithering in their composite video output to achieve transparency effects or an apparent palette expansion. From the same megadrive connector we can extract an RGB signal (scart) that has greater clarity, but loses the dithering, which is taken into account and used to generate visual effects. Does this scaler have a setting that allow us to recreate the dithering?. Using this scaler, do megadrive games look like they do on a CRT? Do we have transparencies and color gradients again?

    Hey, great video!
    I got mine yesterday and I'm trying to do downscaling via the Saturn cable (Saturn to SCART to be precise), as source I'm using the Steam Deck. Yesterday I tried going into the GBS-C via a HDMI -> RCA converter but got a black screen, probably due to the issue that the yellow cable is actually sync (I still got audio though).
    Using a RCA -> SCART Adapter in addition still results in a black screen sadly.
    Can a HDMI -> VGA converter solve this issue?

I'm looking into buying a nice CRT monitor to use with older gen systems but also with system like the PS3 (480p the lowest res it support) and downscale the games to 240p assuming it wont add any lag.

      PSU is "5V 2A 2.1 x 5.5mm"
      search for this exact frase in aliexpress and you should geta match. there are also USB-A to 5.5x2.1 adaptors and if your USB adaptor can supply 5v that should work as well.
      the GBSC dose not come close to consuming 2A so you may be ok with a 1A supply

    So I bought a BitFunx GBS-C, here's my review:
    When you can actually get it to show an image; it's great. Other times I'll be switching presets and resolutions back and forth over and over, until the mode that I know worked previously, actually works. Sometimes turning it off, and then back on, works. Basically, it's a buggy piece of shite, and I'm quite disappointed. Too good to be true. Used with PS2, Wii and Xbox Original via a component switch box, and a PS1 via SCART. Also, it really ought to come with a detailed instruction manual, which it doesn't.

    • @RetroUpgrade
      @RetroUpgrade  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      100% agree here , its very unreliable, i am actually looking in to the code and the PCB designe files to see if i can find anything that could disturb the Sync separator circuit as that's the main problem (getting sync), could be that they forgot something that is required , or introduced noise from some other chip when designing them .
      also the 3 variable caps to "set color" are usually removed when preforming the mod on a GBS8200
      maybe related to those .
      this will take me some time to wrap my head around the issue , but now that i have a oscilloscope i can dig deeper finally :P
