- Working on a movie or TV set can be emotionally taxing, and almost everyone will have a moment where they aren’t on their best behavior. However, there are some actors who have become infamous for the way they treat their fellow cast and crew members, and some have even been written off TV shows for their behavior.

I've always said that Actors and athletes aren't people to listen to. They are nothing but entertainers and do nothing to further humanity. The people who really matter are those that help humanity reach a goal of longevity and prosperous means. Scientist, doctors, cops, firemen, any first responder, men and women in the military, these are the folks to idolize and listen to.

Well that's exactly it - once they start believing their own bull they're lost to the world. The real world doesn't even penetrate their environment - they live in a bubble of bullshit. I'd cross the street to avoid encountering most of them. Thankfully some of the silly rituals the media perpetrated have faded away. Like sticking a microphone under the chin of some burnt out drug addled often tripping old rock star and asking him the meaning of life.
My dad happened to find himself standing in line next to Bruce Willis in a coffee shop. Dad didn’t talk to him about being a famous actor or anything like that; he just talked about the sweet classic car in the parking lot that Bruce drove up in.
Dad said he was just a nice, normal guy making small talk with a stranger about cool cars. Of course, my dad was wise enough to treat the man like he would any random stranger, rather than talk to him as if he were some A list celebrity.
Bruce Willis has always been an arrogant prick , Irish Shakespearean actor Richard Harris said he was the most obnoxious man he ever worked with..
I find it hard to believe that Bruce Willis would willingly stand in a line for coffee.
Of course he would stand in a coffee shop. Actors want to be regular people if they can. The coffee shop was probably in Idaho where he has lived for quite awhile now. Most likely the locals treat him like a neighbor and don’t bother him, thus allowing him to live something of a normal life.
This is the key to any interaction with any human, really…just be a dude. Don’t be overbearing or annoying. If the first words you ever heard out of someone’s mouth were “I don’t want to bother you BUT”, what would you think? Some people know how to read the room and some don’t. Clearly, your dad falls into that former category.

a friend of mine (who passed away 5 years ago), was a lighting technician and had worked on many huge budget flicks. the Indiana Jones trilogy, batman, many many others.., and one day i asked him the very question posed here: who's the nicest actor in Hollywood. and without missing a beat he said Patrick Swayze. He said the man was just overflowing with love and kindness for all.

I'd heard good things about Swayze, RIP. There are many good people in the world of acting. Obviously, there are a number of people who are not. We shouldn't label all actors as psychopaths any more than we should any profession.
Kindest I've worked with are Sandy Bullock and Hugh Jackman. Both are aces. Genuinely nice nice people and very aware of the power of their star status. Sandy would eat more with the extras on our film than any of the other actors at craft services. She would ask them questions about their lives and remember stuff about their parents/family/etc and ask follow up questions like weeks later. She's just very human, down to earth, and sweet. She's also a good tipper.
Hugh is ALWAYS in a good mood. Never seen him not in a good mood. Maybe he's just so good of an actor that I don't know it! Also very down to earth. In a group setting Hugh just wants to be "one of the guys" and I honestly think that he thinks that he is sometimes! But the rest of us know he is Hugh. lol He will do a very serious scene and when the director calls "cut" he will explode into a song and dance number to alleviate the tension in the room. haha. He really is fun to work with.
I've also enjoyed William Shatner, actually, as long as he isn't drinking. Even then he is still fun but he can over serve himself. He is so knowledgeable and has just seen it all. He can also be very funny. I've never had a bad run in with Bill.
The most outrageous i've worked with has to be John Malkovich. Just because he is a LOT like his weird characters. He is just like a caricature of himself. He takes things to extreme and for him it's just normal but we're all left scratching our heads. He can be very particular and stubborn (and shall we say Diva-ish) when he wants to be, but his life is so fantastical. It's like he's always in character.

I live in a Small town in Australia and the closest I've ever been to a "famous" person is my cousin sat next to one of the hosts of "the footy show" once lol
I was an extra on Criminal Minds once, and Mandy was really nice to everyone on set. He had a box of candy that was gifted to him, and he offered everyone a piece, even the extras, whom he would likely never see again. I think the fact that he admitted to being "abominable" on a show that aired years and years ago (1994-2000), indicates self-awareness and changing of ways.

I met the Roadrunner once at a bird seed store and he said the Coyote was just as big of jerk in real life as he was on the show. I was surprised as many times the character one plays is the opposite of how they really are.
Wile E. had always been pretty full of himself. Some had originally thought he was a mute, but he just refused to speak on camera, until Chuck Jones finally bullied him into it over a contract negotiation.
Seriously, though, actors do often seem to play roles that are the opposite of how they are in real life. Call it...performance catharsis (ooohh, did I just coin a term??).
Yes! I understand Daffy Duck was very shy and retiring off camera. He collected stamps and loved to read biographies.

My mother was on Broadway with Mandy Patinkin and according to her he was nothing but a sweetheart to the entire cast and everybody there. In fact, it was her first Broadway show and he was one of the nicest and most welcoming ones there.
Perhaps what an earlier commenter said about him being heavily into method acting is why. Theatre is much more conducive to method than film is.
Or perhaps people are complex and have good and bad sides and don't behave in an exact, consistent manner at all times.

I was asked to assist the musicians at a Mandy Patinkin concert/Q and A when he came to town. I had never experienced anyone so full of themselves as he was. He gladly spoke of how talented and famous he was. It was sickening, especially as the venue is one of the best music schools in the United States. I hear, though, that he figured it out and turned his act around. Good for him. Yo-Yo Ma, James Galway, Chris Daughtry VERY easy to work with.
Patinkin left Criminal Minds because he felt the show was too dark and was having a psychological toll on him. I kind of respect that. IIRC he spoke to the director who wouldn't obviously change the script, so he felt he had to walk.

I worked at Lake Arrowhead for many years at the marina there and had the opportunity to meet many celebrities in the time I was there, for a few years Patrick Swayze had a house and a dock and he had a sailboat he would come up and use occasionally, I met him one day when he asked me if I worked there and he was like, hey man please do me a favor, if anyone is looking for me please tell them you haven't seen me, I need to hang out on my boat and kick back and relax. I was like no problem and he shook my hand and thanked me. A couple years later I actually had the honer of having a few beers with him and talking with him about his movies, the guy was a huge movie star but he was way cool! He had this great sense of humor and his personality was awesome but he was also very courteous and respectful towards me and other people, one night me and another dude I worked with sat in his sailboat which was drydocked at the time and drank beers and Patrick had his close friend there Brian who was cool too, damn we laughed and had a great time, I'll never forget that, I was really bummed when he passed away, but shit I have great memories that I actually knew a very famous but more importantly down to earth person

I have always thought he had a great normal life as he could considering. I met him and his wife Lisa Niemi in junior high school with my little brother during a layover in an airport right before Ghost came out, they were so nice to us. We were trying to figure out if that was "Johnny" from Dirty Dancing .... his wife was like "that's the guy that you think he is. Want to get an autograph?" So nice.

I was working at The Louisiana Purchase, a Cajun restaurant in Banner Elk, NC. The movie Winter People was being filmed and a few celebrities had dinner there. Lloyd Bridges, Kelly McGillis was there, very very nice folks. I got their autographs on menus. As I was going back to the kitchen, I met a guy walking toward me and I asked him, Didn't you play in a series called Chase ? He said Yes, about 100 years ago. Lol. He was Mitchell Ryan. He walked with me into the kitchen, talked with my boss and I, watched us work, signed a business card for me, you know, just a really nice guy. That was really cool. I've met Richard Petty a dozen times, when my wife Rebecca and I first married, Richard sent us a signed card congratulating us, when I had surgery for cancer Richard sent a signed get well card. What a classy guy. Doc Watson was another class act. Super human being. I called him a legend one day and he said, I'm no legend. I'm just a country boy that likes to pick the guitar. Then he added, Just like you. Got his autograph that day. Doc hardly ever signed anything. I feel really special because of people like these folks I've mentioned here. Thanks guys. Thank you. Sounds wonderful. But, unfortunately, is not actually accurate. Some really talented performers are the worst a-holes. See: Gene Kelly, Mandy Patinkin, Alec Baldwin, Jack Nicholson, Bruce Willis. Mike Myers and Chevy Chase are really talented comedians, too. There are many other entertainers who are very gifted, and despite this--or maybe because of it--they are divas or jerks to work with.

In 1974 in Westwood my sister and I happened to be waiting for a "walk/don't walk" sign to change while standing next to Steve McQueen arm in arm With Ali McGraw. They were a big deal at the time and said hello to us very nicely. It was our brush with Hollywood and will always be a great memory.

In 1958, my 29 year old aunt ran into Natalie Wood & Robert Wagner in NYC! He was friendly, but Natalie grew inpatient with Wagner's attention!
I have also met a number of actors, i.e. Jerry Seinfeld, Andie McDowell in Beverly Hills & numerous others who were either friendly or impatient!
Mandy Patinkin was nothing but gracious to me as a young actor. He was friendly, kind and generous and I observed him treating all the other actors on set exactly the same. Regarding his bad behavior, I never saw it, but at least he admits it was unacceptable. I just don't want people to think he's not a nice guy.

Sometimes we are harder on ourselves than is necessary. In his case(mine too)in striving for 'perfection' we overreact if those "in the moment" NEEDS aren't met with the same level of passion. Like popping someone's balloon instead of playing with it. It's not always my fault if I become 'edgy' at certain times. It is my fault if I don't handle it well. So yes, owning it is a big part of the solution.

Your statement is generally true, but Val Kilmer's Jim Morrison and Doc Holiday were worth it.
On the other side of the coin, Keanu Reeves is the nicest bloke in Hollywood. Clint Eastwood, Guy Pearce & Hugh Jackman are consumate gentleman. Sigourney Weaver takes her time to advise and support up and coming actors and Michael Cain is pure class.
Two Aussies in there, I think they are head and tails above Americans in treating all people the same, same with most Brits! A family member of mine who has worked with many "stars" said Jackman is one of the most genuinely nice guys he ever met, famous or not.
Cameron Alexander I have heard that Reeves is a genuinely nice guy (on and off the set), and have never heard a single bad thing about Michael Caine.
I really like Guy Pearce, but every time I see him I can picture Count Mondego from The Count of Monte Cristo.
I met Reeves once and he was shy, friendly, quiet, and cheerful. I expected him to be more brooding or something.
Don't forget Anthony Hopkins. Very sweet and a gentleman.

All he's doing in his low budget movie is face filming, in rest double for " fights" , double for acting the rest, as long you cannot see his face; hi has a lot of dark makeup to make him look slimmer and flirting with any attractive woman on the set, sleeping around a lot. If someone turn him down , is fired.

Shia has made clear more than once that they had a pretty good relationship and Hardy hurt his back while they were wrestling for fun. Story goes Shia knocked Hardy out, which doesn’t really compute with Hardy showing up on set with a hurt back but bruise free face.

Bruce Willis! I performed with a band in Chicago opening for Bruce Willis, twice. Both groups went to Kingston mines afterwards to jam. I was so excited that I got to meet Bruce Willis there in Kingston mines. But when I try to say that I was a fan, Bruce Willis proceeded to call me homely. He said I was unattractive. I was stunned because I hadn't hit on the guy. I was just one of his biggest fans.
One day, way before meeting him I had to have surgery on my foot, but I went to see one of his movies and I limped that day, all day.
But the day that he called me homely and said I was unattractive, I was too stunned to be hurt.
But years later I heard my pastor Bill Winston say... That the Lord will defend you even if you're not around. He showed me Bruce Willis.
What I later discovered was that Bruce Willis's daughters all became what he called me... So hey Bruce, if somebody gets wind of this and tells you of this post, think back in time when you performed in Chicago with the band that opened for you. Remember what you said to a fan. Me. Your wife was pregnant at the time with rumor. I even went up to your former wife and introduced myself to her before the concert. So I may not be what you think of as attractive but I'm doing just fine. God save you. 😷😇✝️🕊️😇.

As a kid we didn't have cable so i use to watch The Streets of San Francisco reruns with Michael Douglas and Karl Malden. I met Karl Malden when I was 8 at Sundance Ski resort in Utah. He was eating, but he stopped and talked to me about acting and stunts. He was very kind, funny and generous with his time. Ive met several other celebrities in my life but he will always be #1. RIP Mr. Malden.

I met Michael Douglas when I was 20 at a college-media event around "Romancing the Stone." As regular a guy as could be. When the interview stuff was done, he wanted to hang out at talk college basketball. Was especially interested in UC Irvine, which had a first-team All-American that year.
I started to go into acting myself because I was in drama class in high school and loved it. But when I saw just how hard it was to be discovered and all the drugs involved I decided it just wasn't worth it. I chose the US Military instead and I don't regret it one bit.
Smart man. Hollywood & politics are the lowest rung on the ladder. Most are phonies. They idolize the dollar and stroke each other's egos. Give a few bucks to a charity and are praised for days. Tell you what is good for you cuz you can't think for yourself. Could go on & on... this started before you were born & will continue after you're gone. Smoke & mirrors......

Directors loved having Jack Elam on a film because he made everyone else happy: funny guy too. I remember an interview with a chauffeur at Heathrow, he said David Niven made everyone feel like a king.
My father served with David Niven in the Army, really nice and polite guy he used to tell me.

When I was very young, indeed, in my youth (I´m now 63 years old) I loved and adored, singers, actresses and actors. But since I became an adult, indeed, became awake, I finally realised, that adoring and loving celebrities, merely made me feel insecure, inferior, subservient and think of myself as, basically, worthless! I´ve now grown up, have you?

I was never particularly a fan of Keanu Reeves, didn't really think of him at all. However the more I see of him in interviews and elsewhere the more I get why he has his reputation of being the nicest guy in Hollywood. He seems really lovely, humble, and just normal with none of the big ego that one can see from some stars. He is really growing on me the more I see of him and I love hearing stories like the one where he went half hour out of his way to give a stranger a life to help her out. The way he treats the crews too in his films with gifts, like the crew on Speed it seems he gave them all a Harley? He gets take out for them and sits down with them. It is so refreshing to see a star of his stature acting like this and I now really like this guy. Never disliked him was just more disinterested. Seems a real good guy.
Too bad he isn't a better actor, though.

Not quite a Hollywood star, but David Tennant is a well-known actor. I worked with him in a TV series early in his career (Casanova) and at the end of the day's filming, he would stand by the exit and thank the extras and crew as they went through. Class.

I've worked as an extra with Alec Baldwin, Mandy Patinkin, and Bruce Willis. Alec is an incredible asshole. Mandy is very much into method and gets annoyed when someone pulls him oot of character, so I can't blame him, but I like working with actors who can turn it on and off like a switch and not have to be in character 24/7. Bruce was the nicest guy and even sat with the extras at lunch and gave us advice. Henry Winkler (not mentioned here) was also very kind to everyone and included us in his home movies that he shoots while on set.

I met John Rhys-Davies (Gimli from LOTR) he was a gentleman so nice took time speaking to a fan from the movies, that was my Hollywood actor meeting.
I've met him also at a convention, spoke to me for at least 10 minutes and he was actually told to hurry it up because other people were waiting lol
I thought he was great in "Raiders Of The Lost Ark".
Add one more - for treating waitresses poorly! Back in the late '80's I worked for Hof's Hut in Long Beach, and Vicki Lawrence used to come in with a very high and mighty attitude. To prove that attitude doesn't have anything to do with actual talent or value, others frequented the coffee shop, too - Raquel Welch was nice. Neutral, not overly warm, but she had a headache and took a couple of aspirin offered by a co-worker. Buddy Ebsen was a regular, liked his milkshakes thick. Mr. Ebsen was shy and soft-spoken, as humble as they come.

Most of these types of people are huge narcissists. They probably didn't start out that way but after becoming popular they 'started believing their own press'. They started seeing themselves as intellectual, elitist types (with lots of $$) and that's why we see so many claiming to know what's best for everyone (a.k.a. 'virtue signaling'). The media hypes them up non stop and 'fans' fawn over them as if they were gods!
Personally, I see these types as useless in the real world. They probably couldn't save their own life in a survival situation or even change a flat tire! "When we lose our humility we lose our humanity."
I hope to God my life never gets so empty and meaningless that I have to live vicariously through some fictional character in a movie. I feel pity for the "fans" who treat celebrities like they were blessed with a wisdom about political and social issues we peons could never hope to attain, and find the popularity of celebrity oriented magazines like People and Us utterly laughable.

I hope some people see this. I played a part in the first Austin Powers movie and Mike Myers couldn't have been more fun and nicer to me. Also we met again at the looping session and again he was extremely gracious in our conversation. And yet again at the film's wrap party he was very nice and gracious as we talked about the film and it's history. I never saw a bad side.

I only had the great side of Mandy and found him to be charming and friendly to this supporting actor on the set of Alien Nation, where being in a rubber head day after day can be excruciating. Chevy I found to be the A hole, and was more than way impressed the way Steve Martin showed saintlike patience in dealing with that troubled child.

I remember 'big head' Val Kilmer boasting on British TV how he could easily beat any T.V . presenter in a tennis match. He went rather quiet when presenter Andrew Castle a former tennis pro took him up on his offer, the silence was deafening.
An old high school friend of mine used to work as a waitress in a Beverly Hills/Hollywood restaurant frequented by celebrities. I asked her who were the rudest and nicest celebrities that she met there. She said that Mandy Patinkin was without a doubt the rudest of them all and was very difficult to deal with. The nicest, she said, was Andre Agassi. Extremely friendly and a good tipper.
I used to see Agassi when he came to my town every year for our big tennis tournament. After his matches, he'd come to the local Applebee's (seriously!) with a few people, and the servers loved him. Gracious, funny, courteous, and a huge tipper. I spoke to him there once, and commented on how much he seemed to have changed from his "Image is everything" days, to which he responded, "Well, I had to get over being a big a**hole."

Don't you dare suggest a line reading, he knows best and will tell you so in no uncertain terms. I witnessed him make a crew member cry. • Chevy Chase: The very definition of arrogant and angry. • Christopher Guest: Extremely smart, exceptionally funny, but off camera, one of the most humorless people you will ever meet. Three of the nicest actors I've had the privilege to work with... • Tom Hanks: Complete sweetheart to every member of the crew, even Production Assistants (goffers) • John Travolta: One of the nicest guys in the business. • Mila Jovovich: Sweet, tender, sensitive, and caring. She seemed more concerned how other people were doing. She spent at least a half hour with one of my female friends and colleague who was about to undergo a sex re-assignment surgery. My friend was teary-eyed after their conversation which ended in a long warm hug.

Other infamously difficult actors are: Wesley Snipes, who was especially notorious on the set of "Blade: Trinity" for intentionally making life difficult for everyone; Edward Norton who is known for being extremely controlling and egotistical, so much so that he is enemies with the director of "American History X" and got fired by Marvel after "The Incredible Hulk"; Shannen Dorherty who was fired from both "90210" and "Charmed" for her feuds with cast-mates.
Edward Norton gets a pass, he is a great actor (unlike the rest of these people) and had good reason to want to push things in a different direction. Apparently a lot of the best scenes in AHX came from his ad libs and changes to script, and the Hulk movie was atrocious. His poking fun at the whole notion through taking that role in Birdman was priceless.
Snipes is a racist as well as a jackass. Edward Norton tho is a fantastic actor, i'd put up with controlling and egotistical to work with him. And the director of American History X never wanted Norton in the first place, he had it in for him before he was cast for that role. (which he was fucking amazing in, btw)

I/we used to sell cable TV in the late 60's in Beverly Hills, Brentwood, Sherman Oaks, etc. The most wonderful people were: Debbie Reynolds, Jack Larson ("Jimmy Olson" on the old Superman series), Lorne Greene, Vincent Price, Ann Margaret, Cecil Kelloway, a couple of the Beach Boys, the President of United California Banks and many more very talented people who's names you wouldn't know. So hospitable, so kind. They didn't have to prove anything to anyone; they knew who they were and what they could do. Those were thee days.
Samuel Lane I love Lorne Greene. I'm only in my 30s, but Bonanza is one of my favorite shows of all time. I'm glad to hear he was nice.

I used to fix the elevator in Sylvester Stalone's house in Miami. He was a real piece of crap. You couldn't even be allowed to look at him let alone say hello or something. I knew Sharon Gless, Oprah, Madonna and Gloria Estevan. Worked on their elevators. They were wonderful people to work with.

I played two games of the iconic arcade game “Asteroids” with Patrick Dempsey in 1987 in Roanoke, Va. when he showed up to his premiere of “Can’t Buy Me Love” at the old Towers Mall theatre.(he was filming “In A Shallow Grave” nearby)
Back then he was very cool. Didn’t know it was him when we payed the games, but after the movie he was recognized and deeply enjoyed the attention and was nice to everyone.

Myers did not craft ALL of his characters. He stole Dr Evil from Carvey. Paltrow’s best use would be as a speed bump.
I am not saying that Mandy Patinkin was not, by his own admission, difficult on the sets of Homeland, Chicago Hope etc but he is not a lazy actor or someone who doesn't work hard. When you play the lead in a Broadway show 8 times a week for months (or years) you know what hard work is and what it takes. I think he was just getting frustrated with the process of television. Watch him on the set of Yentl (there is footage on youtube I think) to see how committed he is to his work and how that could lead to conflict under certain circumstances.
I watched criminal minds a couple of times and found it so violent and sick I couldn't watch it again. Mandy apparently walked off because he felt he had been mislead about what the show was about. He found it too violent and his belief system kicked in and he decided he didn't want to promote that much violence. I admired him for that. Actors rarely display a sense of morality and he seemed to care about the audiences and the kids in the audience. I applaud him sticking up for what he believed in.
That's crap! As an actor let me tell you first of all if you take a job, you do it - NO SMALL ROLES! 2nd) If he truly felt that way, that's when you talk it out. Ask to be written out; speak to your agent. Figure things out. Don't just walk off set - that's time wasted and time is money on set - BIG MONEY! That's actors etiquette 101. I'm surprised he's ever allowed to work again. Showbiz is unforgiving in most situations. The extras don't get 2nd chances are neither do we. That's called unprofessionalism and if that's how you want to be remembered so be it, you'll be forgotten just as fast. That makes me so mad to read when actors just walk off set, or show up late like Tom Welling on the set of Smallville. This shit needs to be taken seriously; it's not a game.

I've read a lot of articles over the years about bad behavior from actor's off set. All of the ones mentioned in this video were always mentioned in the articles except for Val Kilmer. It always befuddles me to hear about actors being this way. They are being paid to shoot a movie. Their boss is the Director of the film. Throwing hissy fits like spoiled rotten brats should be inexcusable. They're lucky that people still want to work with them.
Wayne's World was Mike Myers' first film. I think he was unprepared for how tedious moviemaking can be, especially for performers. Anybody who has ever worked on SNL would tell you that it's a lot different than any other showbiz gig. You're encouraged to write and create your own characters and material, and when that green light goes on, you've got one chance to get it right. It's an improv performer's paradise, and if you mess up a little in front of the camera, it's no big deal. But with filming a movie, it's the exact opposite. Directors generally don't like actors to improvise, actors don't have cue cards to feed them lines, they have to wait sometimes hours for shots to be set up, and if they flub a line they have to do it over again until it's just exactly how the director wants it done. Penelope Spheeris said later on that she forgave Mike, because presumably she understood the pressure he was under considering everything he had to deal with and his inexperience. That movie looks like it must've been a lot of fun to make. For Mike, not so much.
I'd say Baldwin tops the list.

Mandy Patankin....i've worked with him a few times and i thought he was a pretty good guy. Yes, he was a serious actor, but not a jerk at all. Not above small interesting chit chat with people he didn't have to (like myself at the time). I thought he was quite nice. Sometimes he would actually stick up for people when the director was being a dick...so i think this estimation of him is wrong.

A friend of mine works as an extra on shows filmed in Chicago. She said nothing would get you thrown of the set quicker than trying to talk to Noah Wyle (Redline).
