Installed the XAV 6000 on my 2003 4runner a few months ago and its been great. I was worried about the washed out screen/low brightness living in Arizona, but haven't had any issues with being able to see the screen. The auto dim feature when headlights are on is a great as well. Overall, nice quality of life upgrade
The ax6000 uses a cheaper TN panel for the screen. This is why it looks washed out, TN panels look washouted when viewed at an angle. The matte antiglare doesnt help either. If you go into a store and see the ax6000 vs 9000es in person you will see how much less washed out the 9000es looks, besides just the higher resolution. The ax6000 isnt bad, just an engineering choice they made to meet that price point. OLED or IPS screen panels have much better viewing angles, especially OLED, but are generally more expensive and also have their own tradeoffs.
How was the audio quality? No one seems to really tought if it was better than their OEM stereo and people only seem to focus on the other features which are also important. However, with all the updated tech I want to know if this will sound better. Any information would be helpful. Thanks in advance!
Good question - it sounds better than the original car stereo, however my Kenwood receiver does sound higher quality (and louder) compared to the Sony.
Thanks for the video. The screen looks about the size of an IPhone. I have a 2023 Tacoma (not JBL radio) it’s an 8” screen I wonder if it’s worth changing to this. I have installed Kenwood speakers on all 4 doors and Kicker front tweeters sounds better than original but looking for just a bit louder without an amp.
I been looking at the AX6000 just for wireless car play. I was gonna get the AX4000 as it $300 cheaper and I won’t need the pre out’s where I’ll be just going with factory speaker and sub setup by the harness. So no big deal about the pre out volts. I also don’t need the HDMI of the AX6000. Literally the only reason I’m looking at it over the AX4000 is because of the screen. Everyone saying not to go with a resistive screen. That and a 3 year warranty on the AX6000 vs only 1 year on the AX4000. But man is that AX6000 expensive, it’s $1000 here in Canada everywhere I look. And now with your review, I’m wondering if I’m gonna be able to see the navigation when I have the roof and doors removed on my Jeep. So after you returned it, what head unit did you put in ? And was it wireless for car play ?
I'm in the same boat. This review concerns me. I want to be able to see the dang screen. I wonder if the AX4000 is better. Sony's website says they are both 600 nits. The 9000ES has a 720p resolution, but the brightness is only 425 nits, so less than the AX6000. Choices!
1000 dollar wtf, here in India its like only 45000 Rs ,in Flipkart its 35000 ie 435 dollars to 440 dollars only. Man 1000 dollars is very high for this 😮
@@aeidelshould get you to buy it and ship it to me lol. The AX6000 is $999.99 + TAX and doesn’t include the Mastro unit or XM unit or the dash kit in that price. The AX4000 is $699.99 + TAX. If I’m lucky I could get it on sale. But so far the AX6000 is on sale for $849.99 at the time of writing this and that still pretty expensive. But with the way Canada going, everything seems to be more expensive then what it should be.
I think my biggest gripe is the brightness as I mentioned in the review. 600nits I just don’t feel is enough in a car when the sun is constantly shining through onto it. With smartphones averaging over 1000nits in non-HDR mode, it’s kind of just a downgrade. But you can always try it for yourself and see how it looks. I know Best Buy has some display units of the 4000.
Did you use a harness adapter or did you cut factory harness. There should have been an orange wire in the adapter harness and radio. It would be labeled illumination. Has to be connected for the head unit to dim when lights come on. If not then maybe software issue. Check for any updates and see if it changes that if it’s not the wiring? Hope this helps
Thanks for the advice. I did wire the illumination wire, and double-checked it to make sure it was all good to go. It may be an issue with my car's wiring in general, or perhaps the head unit. I just couldn't get it to work.
when you use your steeling wheel in radio mode and skip to the next station does it skip to the next station up or the next preset? can you mix and match bands in your presets?
I didn’t pay $700 for this one though since it was on sale. The 9000es still has the anti-glare coating on the display, and may have had some of the same issues at the 6000. I would still deem it not worth it for most.
No you cannot natively. Although there may be a third party app that can allow it, Apple and Google have stated that they don’t want people to be distracted while driving.
@@tristan_talks_techI understand honestly at the price point the screen should be bright enough. I have one more question are your car speakers stock ? If so did u notice a difference in the sound quality coming from the stock speakers with this head unit ?

maybe your display is stuck on dim, try disconnecting the wire for headlight signal

Does pinch to zoom work on apple carplay? I thought that feature only works with android auto
Was the AX4000 an option when you bought this one?
I want the wireless carplay, but I'm worried that i won't like the resistive screen on that unit.
It was an option- I chose the AX6000 because I thought I would prefer the capacitive display.
@@tristan_talks_techand what will you say now? resistive 4000 or capative 6000? or no big difference

It's $800 CAD now everywhere. Did you end up getting the 4000 though? I'm having the same dilemma. "Only" $150 more for the 6000 but still.

For 700, you should have gotten the new Xav-9000es it has a higher resolution 720p display, and I'm sure it brighter as well 🤷♂️
