WOW, if you want to know what a NON-SMACKED OUT Jimmy Page sounded like.....OMG, this is it ! I saw Zeppelin's last two SMACKED OUT tours in NYC, '75 & '77....this IS better than anything I saw them play ! PAGE SOUNDS FUCKIN SCARY ! ! !
Agree how disappointing LZ were to become due to smack. Such a waste. LZ up to 73 were unbeatable and whilst I owe Jimmy credit for inspiration to play guitar these last 45 years, I always felt his best was behind him after physical graffiti which is such a waste IMO
I think the NQ arrangements on the 73 tour were superior to what was to come in later tours. I love JPJ but when he sticks to organ only and doesnt switch to grand piano the he gives Jimmy a much more solid bed to solo over... such as this master work. This, plus the album highlight of NQ on The Song Remains the same recorded NY madison square in 73 i believe. This arrangement is so similar and is magnificent!
he actually uses the fender rhodes piano with a maestro phase shifter which is where he gets the watery tone, on this tour he barely, if ever uses the organ
A doubt, Achilles Last Stand from Birmingham 77 is superior to its version in Houston 77? I have that doubt since both versions are my favorites in May 77 before the shows in Landover.

'PRESENCE', I hav always said was ZEPPELIN's Heaviest Studio Recording....No acoustic tracks, just BRUTAL HEAVY-NESS !!! During this NQ Bonham is playing what Page is playing note for note, fuckin incredible !
