I love this series and I really hope that you're able to find a good home. I get really stunned by the breathtaking beauty of the countryside and it makes me wish that I could make the same leap that you did, but I understand that it's not an easy path nor for everyone. But the absolute awe-inspiring beauty is so humbling.
While I love the looking for a new place, I feel quite sad to think of you leaving this lovely little hood and your friendly neighbours! It's so oen and such a beautiful view from your current place. But I am sure there are just as wonderful ones to be found.
Thank you! This was the perfekt motivation Video for me this morning. You have such a nice style of filming and showing us the world. I am so happy for you to have instant hot water! and you are right; that is a Privilege. Greetings from Germany, have a nice spring
I'm amazed at how the Japanese can just leave home with everything in it as it was when it was occupied. I realize it is probably a deceased estate but a little clean up would go along way. Only in Japan. I wish I was looking for an Akiya. If you ever need a good carpenter hit me up. PS we are heading into winter here in Australia.
I truly admire you guys for going so long without an on-demand hot water system. Being bothered to do things like that really helps to have a good perspective on life!
I'm writing a novel this spring that has a few chapters set in a rural Japanese farmhouse and watching your videos is going to inform the work. Thanks for your videos, and best of luck in your search!
The eclectic aspect of your videos is interesting and enjoyable! Happy birthday, Pancake. 🎉 It was nice to see the start of the rice growing season. Perhaps you could share more about the agricultural aspects of rice farming throughout the season.
It's funny you ask, because I've just recently started getting into rice farming with some of the neighbours. I won't be able to offer a full picture, but I can at least share a snippet from what I experience!
Happy Birthday Pancake! While I almost always eat pancakes on Sunday, this weekend they are in your honor. And I've been doing the same this Spring, house hunting! It's definitely a fun opportunity to explore nearby neighborhoods and find hidden gems. Right now we're looking at a place that comes with a yurt!
PALOMA!!! What an upgrade! That's what I use in my off-grid house in Hawai'i. It's mounted outside right next to my shower on the back side of my house which is super handy if the water gets too hot and needs a quick adjustment. The flowers out front look beautiful! 🌸🌿
Such a beautiful channel! I love the way you give a us a glimpse of Japan! I especially like see the gardening progress your making around your house. Also looking forward to your future house buying! Have a blessed year! ❤️🦋🦋🦋
Thank you for sharing your adventure in Japan. Your views of the countryside are breathtaking and your home life is fascinating. Keep this beautiful story coming. I enjoy as much of it as you have time to share
I don't think we've ever understood why you can't buy the house you're living in now? You've done so much work, it's got a great view and you've been accepted into the community.
The owners want to keep the house in their family. Plus, it's a bit too small for us. However, we will likely continue to maintain it, at minimum, for the sake of maintaining our connection with our neighbors. ☺️
Happy birthday Pancake!! As they say never work with children or animals, they take over. But I do love to watch Pancakes doggy ways. Best Wishes, Bob.
I love that Pancake and my pup (Hanako) are about the same age! She just turned one on May 9th. I really love watching your videos and seeing a part of the small Japanese country side. It seems so peaceful! Good luck on your hunt for a new akiya! Just remember, even if you love the house, you have to love the location. Houses can be changed, but the location can't be changed.
I'm sure you've guys have already seen Tokyo Llama's akiya journey and renovation here on TH-cam, but if not, its definitely worth checking out for some insight on the work they put in
I envy you that temperate and verdant island! Your flower garden is looking beautiful! Spring where I am is three months of slowly rising temperatures. Rain, snow, sun, clouds, we get it all. But once summer arrives (late June) anything green and growing makes up for lost time! Sadly, the soil here is mostly full of rocks. I spent several hours digging one large hole for a couple of holly plants last week and swear I removed more rocks than soil from it! 😅 Because it is such an endeavour to plant anything we have taken it slowly -- every year another raised bed or 'hole' of some sort. And because the green space behind our house is scheduled for eventual development I divide up our gardening efforts between 1 - yearly salad fixings (from seed or a nursery) 2 - perennials (mostly flowers from a nursery as my own attempts at growth from seed have not been too successful) and 3 - various small saplings from the back woods. Small sapling transplants so far include a couple of pin cherries, 2 larch, a maple (I think), and a mountain ash (known here as dogberry). I have had luck starting, from seed, local apple trees! I have one tiny 'tree' in the back yard and two small saplings in the house. We also now have two currant bushes (black and red) as well as a new rhubarb! I planted that just last week on our sunny back slope and it is already progressing. I am very excited because I love rhubarb! 😋 Good luck house hunting! Remember that you can change many things about a house except its actual location. So, try hard not to compromise on anything on your list of wants re: location, access, distance etc.
I wish you the best of luck in house hunting. I'd honestly forgotten you didn't own this house you currently live in. But it's a great home base to find your forever home from. Pancake is all grown up now, and he's both cute and handsome.
quick tip, i recommend you get a regular Y-shape Harness for Pancake instead of a norwegian style harness! the strap going across the chest can limit the shoulder movement of the dog and many vets and people who know more about dogs body structure than me 😂 recommend people avoid these kind of harnesses and especially in younger dogs it can prevent proper development in the shoulderjoints/range of movement! :)
Happy birthday, Pancake! Seeing all those lovely places and the lush greenery makes me wanna go on a trip, I'm sure it's enjoyable to travel like this even though you have yet to find a place that would be it for you. Congrats on the new hot water system! 😁
My daughter lived in Japan for 12 years (Kinoshita circus) I loved visiting. I think Japanese culture is fascinating and beautiful showing respect to each other and nature
I've read multiple times ''weeding'' as wedding and thought they were getting married but were still putting pancake's 1st birthday first in the title and thought that was very commendable and valid until the end of the video lol
Seeing the scenery just brought back memories of my journey as henrô in Shikoku. Even the millepede next to the mattress,😂. But on that time, I just screamed like crazy when the millepede came out between the tatami. Many abandoned house in Koichi during my trip in 2016. Thank you for sharing and good luck!
I like Pancake. For a young dog he appears to be pretty settled. I wish I was younger and I think I might try a move like you two. I hope things continue well for you three
Nice and peaceful. :) We live in New Zealand, where there are many varieties of native birds. I'm curious to know more about the bird life surrounding your home.
What a lovely place you all have there, what is the name of the river that flows by? Look so clean and must be nice to go for a swim? Thank you and god bless
I recently found your channel.I am from India. The Japanese coutryside is so serene and beautiful! The countryside in my land is also breathtakingly beautiful.Especially in monsoons!Your videos are very soothing!Thank you for sharing!🙏🙏
I guess I must have missed the episode where you announced that you are looking for a new home. You’ve done so much to rejuvenate your current home. Interesting that there is an akiya bank.
It's crazy to think I've been watching your channel for over a year now! I started watching just before you guys adopted Pancake! I love seeing this side of Japan that you don't really get to see~ It's like a Ghibli film but in real life! I would love to see a video of you guys shopping in your town, just to see what its like but honestly, I love all your content!
Happy birthday to Pan-chan! Re my personal interests, they are gardening, cooking and Japanese crafts. What flowers have you planted? I remember lavender, azaleas and rhododendron, I think. Gardens, either for flowers or veggies, are a source of joy. And I hope you find the dream house you are looking for.
Thank you for sharing your interests! Glad you like Japanese crafts, because I'm hoping to include more of it in upcoming videos. 🥰 As for flowers, I planted more azaleas (a different variety from the first with smaller flowers), African daisies, burgundy-red garden cosmos, American mock vervain, beeblossom (and one chrysanthemum stem given to us by our neighbour!)
Hello from Canada! 🇨🇦. I really enjoy following along on your adventures to find an akyia (?) - and of course I love the footage of Pancake 😀. Happy birthday to your sweet pup!
I'd stay where you are and keep fixing it up. It's effectively yours and practically free, with a nice view and some land. Magnificent retaining wall also.
Love your videos. Happy anniversary to Pancake. I very much liked the akia hunting section. I would like to see more of those. 13:47 Looks like an old farm. Gorgeous. And rare, I would think. Then 13:53 - 14:04 is so beautiful. If there're any houses for sale, I'd consider.
I'm a new subscriber! (^^,) I just stumbled upon your video when I started watching abandoned houses in Japan videos. I have always been fascinated with Japanese culture, especially its way of life. Good luck with all of your plans this year. Oh, and happy birthday, Pancake!
With all the “weeding” you are doing….consider making a compost pile. Then you can stop buying bags of dirt from the store. This Spring we are remodeling our kitchen in South Carolina and planning our annual trip to Maine for our summer vacation. We go camping. It would be great to see all of you go camping in a beautiful spot in Japan. Dogs were meant to go camping…Pancake will love it.
I mentioned in a recent comment how Pancake keeps you both busy! Let's add weeds to the list! 😄 Happy Birthday Pancake! Much love health and happiness to you all all the way from New Jersey, USA! Love your adventures!
Happy Birthday Pancake 🎉❤ Thank you for another beautiful vidio so relaxing and enjoyable can't wait for the next one. Good luck with the house hunting 😃 xx
Happy birthday pancake I wonder what the strawberries are planted in to make them so sweet? Thanks for sharing your life with us blessings from North Texas ❤
Enjoy seeing more of the Shikoku countryside. We will be visiting from Aotearoa New Zealand in December. Traveling by train to Matsuyama to visit my son's host family
You have the rice fields nearby in a lot of your videos, but haven't really talked about them much. Could you do a video going into a bit of depth of the farming process that you've witnessed?
It’s Pancake’s world and we are all living in it
Pancake eating a pancake is max pancake. More Pancake.
sounds like cannibalism
The Pancakest
that sitcom style intro really establish pancake is star of the show.

My fave reason to tune in is for the quiet nature sounds & watching the progress of daily life there

Happy birthday Pan-kun
I liked the juxtaposition of the whole family digging at 8:54 and Pancake joining in 7 seconds later. Peak videography!
Ha! He's our good little helper 😆
Happy birthday Pancake 👏🏻❤️
I love her attitude towards the hard things in life. We should all be so upbeat!
Pancake is growing ; nice treat for his birthday; your country home is progressing nicely, and applaud you. both for all your efforts!

Always lovely to hear from you both; thank you, as always, for sharing.
Happy birthday to your precious Pancake! 🎉🎂🎈❤️🦴

Your flowers look nice! Does Pancake have any friends nearby? It would be fun to see him go to a dog park to play
The lush green vegetation, misty mountain views, and uguisu background music all sent me straight back to spring in Japan ✨

This series is so wonderful, I look forward to it every upload. I wish you guys luck in finding a home! What a beautiful country Japan is.
Love your family and lifestyle. Makes me want to find a partner, a dog, and an akira home to in rural Japan! Thanks, so much for sharing.
Happy birthday pancake I wonder what the strawberries are planted in to make them so sweet? Thanks for sharing your life with us blessings from North Texas ❤
Not sure, but I assume the attention to care and detail (and the greenhouse setting) had something to do with it!
I ♥your videos. Best of luck in finding the right Akiya for the 3 of you,
AND MANY MOREEEE!!!! 🎉🎉🎉

coming right up! I just started doing some rice planting with the neighbours in those fields, so I can share a little bit about that soon.
