How Do People Live in a Tent and Shower at −71°C (−95°F)? Yakutia, Siberia
ฝัง
- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 6 ก.พ. 2025
- In the Arctic tundra of Siberia, Sundays for the nomadic reindeer herders, are a day of hard work and survival. While many enjoy rest, the family dedicates the day to essential tasks like showering, gathering ice, building a bathhouse, and doing laundry-all while battling freezing temperatures. Children like 11-year-old Saiaan help with daily chores, learning the skills needed to survive in the wilderness. Despite the harsh conditions, the family remains deeply connected to their traditions, passing down survival skills and cultural heritage from generation to generation.

Out of interest do you know what the typical diet for the dogs here is? Or if they're now on a modern kibble/biscuit do you know what the diet was traditionally?
I always find it interesting how such groups of more traditional people feed their dog's. As people assume they'd get what are considered scrap parts of meat in the modern world raw.
But often these "scrape parts" are still consumed by the humans, for example in this video the blood, and often there's little left as meat is valuable.
I assume these dogs get fish, the left over cooked bones after a meal and digestive contents when they kill a deer/wild animal but anything else?
I know the Hadza people from Tanzania would give their dogs the digestive contents when killing an animal and boil the left over bones into a broth/soup traditionally and these days now add Ugali to the soup as a filler.
Do these people in this video do something similar but adding flour as a filler instead?
Thank you for the interesting video's on this channel 😊
I am from Jamaica and I couldn't handle the cold weather
Hello from Australia. I’ve been waiting for another video from you. I enjoy your content, it’s very informative and interesting but fun too! Can’t imagine not being able to have a warm shower handy. lol . These people are so humble and lovely letting you share their life on camera. Thank you Kiun. 🤗
Thanks to the family for allowing this to be recorded, amazing!
i live in Samoa, tropical climate all year round, we work plantations to live off the land. we sometimes complain about living conditions and the lack of luxury items. watching this gives me new perspective for where i live and a great respect for those that live in harsh climates and tougher conditions. Thankyou for this video.
I'd love to visit and see how you live there 🏴❤

@@vorden25 You call it's "Crazy"? I live in Yakutia, here temperature from -60C at winter to +40C at summer.
Every morning when I get up, I thank God, for beautiful sky, no rocket 🚀 or bomb explosions 🙈for warm and cold water, for roof above my head, for bread🙏Every second of my life I depend on Him, so I thankful to my Lord. To live life like this people, you have to be born there, but for them it’s normal life. Thank you 🙏🙏🙏🙏

The singing of the women in their dressed up clothes in the tent is absolutely peaceful and touching 🌝
I thought so❤
It reminds me very much of a Folkways record my dad used to have of work songs of the women in the Outer Hebrides in the 1950's. Fascinating!
The rhythm reminds me of the music sung by the Mongols in the Netflix series "Marco Polo"

I admit to feeling stressed by washing one's face with the mouth-backwash of teeth brushing, but...this is wholesome.
I came looking for this comment. Like wow
Me too. I was thinking the same thing
Don't watch the 13th warrior.. because if that stresses you out what get do will gag you.
I understand water is scarce at this region but wouldn't hurt to get some clean water to wash your face. How about wet the towel and wash your face with the towel. I remember when I was a child, and my grandfather would wake up early to boil hot water in the kettle and wet the towel for me and my siblings to wash our faces in the morning.
I grow up like this in Mongolia in yurt and we wash our face with mouth backwash to make the water warm at least. No one wakes up earlier than you to heat water for you.
Can't even imagine dealing with period in such conditions .. these women are build different
Righttttttt

Imagine birthing in these conditions? Dip the baby in water, travelling great distances with an infant, setting up tent in freezing weather while trying to nurse, how to change a baby’s soiled clothing in freezing weather? It’s so unimaginable.

@@jbre7233humans are truly remarkable in that regard. How fast we can adapt without having to evolve our whole body plan.
This video is a gem for providing insight in how humans used to live (even if these people are using more modern tools but that is human too and is no point of criticism)
Much thanks to the family for welcoming us into a glimpse of their lives.
Huge respect to these people . We really don’t know how good we have it in our homes with food hot and cold running water etc . We all take things for granted, and we really shouldn’t !
One family with a common goal - that is what family is about. I love how they all work together for the survival and betterment of the whole. Very honorable way of life.

That’s is why non-traditional family structures do not work given enough time.
This may look like a hard life, but it also looks like absolute freedom.

Well said!
People from urban areas do wilderness camping for recreation. These people do it as their day-to-day life.
That isn’t freedom 😂😂

When this age of humanity destroys themselves through greed, corruption and war, these resilient nomads will be the survivors.
Civilizations have dealt with greed, corruption, and war for at least 5,000 years and yet here we still are.
I doubt it. If they do not live in a jurisdiction, they soon will. No one will escape being confronted by the mark of the beast.
They're using chainsaws and other fuel powered modern tech, it could poise their teachings over the generations.....they might be in for a shock.
@chatryna As much as modern society is an ever growing tumor on this earth, people who can sustain themselves outside of cities and towns will do just fine. Anyone able to live off-grid will inherit the earth, while the rest of us fight for scraps and useless trinkets. In reality, noone will chase a small group of people living a thousand kilometers away from everyone else, everyone will be too busy clamoring on top of each other to really care.
Unfortunately there is no escape from the impact of climate change, esp in the arctic which is warming four times faster than more southerly latitudes. The oil and gas companies knew this forty years ago, but they carry on instead of turning to renewables. Capitalism has no respect for humans or any other life.
The Northern Lights at the end were just breathtaking! Thank You for sharing such an extraordinary life.💖
I felt so relaxed watching this . The kids are at peace Grandparents being grandparents. I wish continuius of peace, health and happiness ❤
Living free does have a cost, but God bless these people for their resilience and their hardiness. Very inspirational indeed.

I used to live in Siberia for 7 years. -52 was the coldest I experienced. You just dress well, don't breath through the mouth and keep your eyes closed for a bit (tocwarm them up) when you feel frost crowling inside you through eyes. I lived in an urban town, but even then it was a challenge
The Voice of the Woman singing and the tune! Oh my! Beautiful to listen to. And the beading…. So lovely . What skill. This was beautiful to watch and listen to.
That too got me feeling somewhat peaceful… it was so relaxing.
Resilience. I love to see how happy this family is, despite all the hard work. Great
In sure it is all they know😮
I can’t even begin to appreciate how difficult it would be to survive in these harsh conditions. These people are physically and mentally tough as nails.
I want that doggo you see at 5:46.
He's so adorable, he's like 'I don't care if it's minus 30° out here, I'm just happy to be around people.'
I don’t think the dog cares about the temp. It’s a work dog & that coat he has is purposely thick to warm his body & withstand cold temps and winds
We brought a Yakutian Laika into our family and she is the biggest goof that doesn’t even bat an eye when it starts to get cold. I loved seeing them in their home in this video!
Great to see how others live ,and survive the cruel winter months and I thought Scotland was cold ,wishing you and your family a happy and peaceful life from Scotland 🏴
I thought Yorkshire was cold 😂

Wow . They are so resilient. Especially the females bringing up 6 children in those conditions. I am in awe .. and she makes the blood sausage in the tent WITHOUT running water, and all the mod cons of huge American kitchens and WITHOUT making a mess . Please, keep at it . The reindeer and dogs are gorgeous too . Off to turn my heating on ?!
They are probably cannibals and would quickly throw a child in the pot if the weather took a run for the worse
The six children are necessary for survival. They are doing 1/2 the chores
