  • X-Men Days of Future Past - Opening Fight Scene - 2014 MOVIE CLIP (4K).
    X-Men: Days of Future Past is a 2014 American superhero film based on the fictional X-Men characters that appear in Marvel Comics. Directed by Bryan Singer, it is the seventh installment of the X-Men film series and acts as a sequel to both 2006's X-Men: The Last Stand and 2011's X-Men: First Class. The story, inspired by the 1981 Uncanny X-Men storyline "Days of Future Past" by Chris Claremont and John Byrne, focuses on two time periods, with Wolverine traveling back in time to 1973 to change history and prevent an event that results in doom for both humans and mutants. The film features an ensemble cast, including Hugh Jackman, James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Halle Berry, Anna Paquin, Ellen Page, Peter Dinklage, Ian McKellen, and Patrick Stewart. Simon Kinberg wrote the screenplay from a story he conceived with Jane Goldman and Matthew Vaughn.

      Think about this. If Colossus could destroy these robots, what couldn't he do to the clunky, old fashion models? How exactly could the sentinels win at all with the indestructible Colossus everyone wants to see? How could we as an audience ever feel like the X-Men are in danger? BUT if these sentinels can literally turn the X-Men powers against themselves.... Well, they're terrifying to behold.

      Interesting thing is that they did learn their lesson and team up to fight the sentinels near the ending of movie, in order to improve their chances of success. For example, in the final battle, Colossus and Sunspot took turns to attack the same sentinel, unlike this part where they fought different sentinels in a 1 v 1 setting.

      @skylightdarkseal9517 2 ปีที่แล้ว +44

      I don't quite know of the cliché you speak of, but I think I know why this particular Sentinel model is a No-Nonsense Nemesis. Wolverine's healing factor may be in a class by itself, but he isn't the only one who can shrug off monstrous wounds.
      Even if they can't heal like Logan, there are many mutants that are extremely durable (Colossus), mutants that are almost impossible to hit (Blink and Quicksilver) and many more that, either out of grief, rage or straight up _refusal_ to submit, fight tooth and nail for every square _inch_ that the Sentinels try to take, only stopping when they are quite literally torn to pieces.
      The Sentinels aren't being brutal or sadistic. They were never meant to have the capacity for emotion. Going for sheer overkill is pretty much the only way to make sure that a mutant goes down and _stays_ there.

    • @elgaatooo
      @elgaatooo 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      They are programmed with only one purpose, to kill the mutants in whatsoever way possible. What makes them much more scary is that because they are robots, they don't have any emotions and are merciless. They just have to get the job done in any way possible.

    • @skylightdarkseal9517
      @skylightdarkseal9517 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@elgaatooo Exactly. They don't have scruples, prejudice or morals. They don't _hate_ the mutants like some do.
      I never meant to insinuate that they had feelings. They are weapons. Killing mutants is just...what they do. It is the sole purpose of their existence. New mutant?

      Indeed. Which is why I also love the final Thanos encounter at the end of Infinity War. They couldn't do shit to him while he was wearing the gauntlet with 5 stones. Too bad that Marvel Studios chickened out and never gave us an actual battle between Thanos with all 6 stones against all Avengers (like in the comic books). I would've rather seen that than the big battle we saw in Endgame. Then again, it was probably too hard to depict that in a movie. Writing that for a comic book is easy, but a movie? Oh well.

They already have all those powers built-in. Wikipedia's page is actually on them is actually a good description. Also, for any one in their 30s that remembers the epic 90s X-men cartoon, there's an episode with Nimrob and Storm uses lightning to destroy him, also accurate to the comics.

Every spare second is another second they can use. Human beings have a rather alarming tendency to self-destruct when cornered, and Warpath, in this timeline anyway, has only two people left to fight for.

The Sentinels began adapting to each individual mutant's powers only after being affected by them, and although the ability for the Sentinels to adapt comes from Mystique's ability to shapeshift, they also require Rogue's ability to read a mutant's powers to know how to counter them

      On that we can agree, Bee Lor.
      But to be honest, it sort of felt like Blink was underusing her powers.
      She can quite literally make portals that can connect two entirely separate points of space to each other(I believe the technical term is tesseract). It is also made clear that she does _not_ need to physically _see_ a location to be able to bridge to it.
      With this in mind, what's to stop her from opening a bridge at the bottom of the nearest *ocean* and creating her own flash-flood?
      Or bridging the Sentinels out of *orbit* or into the nearest _active volcano?_
      When you have the power to exist everywhere at once, the capacity for violence is endless.

      She doesn't need line of sight to bridge two locations together. She may have to be present to _create_ a portal, but she doesn't need to _see_ where she is going to get there.

    The reason why Xmen franchise has been so successful and, more importantly, endured for two decades was because Bryan Singer was not afraid to be innovative and adapted to changing times. He is probabaly the best superhero director in this century so far.

    • @LukeLovesRose
      @LukeLovesRose ปีที่แล้ว

      I dont think this brilliant scene was crafted by Bryan Singer. I think everything that made this scene and maybe this entire movie so brilliant is James Cameron. All he would have to do is provide Singer with the storyboards. Singer and his writing team would take it from there. But they really wouldnt have to do much.
      The reason why I think that - apart from a few aesthetics is the fact that Singer has NEVER shown this level of craftsmanship

In movies like Avengers, Suicide Squad, Justice League there wasn't a single second during which I'd feel the enemy army was actually dangerous. I was like "yeah, if you let them loose they'll probably kill civilians, but any superhero can destroy an army of them with ease so no worries.

    I’m surprised no one has done a full analysis video of this scene. Specifically an One Villainous scene. Everything here establishes and shows the Sentinels to be a massively unstoppable and terrifying threat. The Sentinels before this movie came out, don’t really scare me. The Sentinels here however made me feel fear. This fight isn’t a fight to destroy the Sentinels, it’s about survival, the members of the X-Men and other mutants are trying to buy time for Kitty Pryde and Bishop, so Kitty can send Bishop back in time to warm them. Not to mention only THREE Sentinels fought in this battle. It was a 3 Vs. 7. The Sentinels killed five out of the seven mutants here. The thing is that the mutants knew that they don’t have a chance, considering the fact almost all of the mutants and humanity were destroyed and the others who survived were prisoners or rebels against the Sentinels.
    The music, the atmosphere, the actors performances of their characters, the battle and so much more. I would love to analyze this entire scene, but I feel like I can’t describe it well enough with my words.

      It's ironic that it's so obvious... that Sentinel's face does look like an anus. It's like her other line from X-Men 3 where she called Juggernaut a "Dickhead." It fits because of his helmet but its too obvious. This is more subtle and doesn't take away from the tension in the scene. But its clear that she's still got that same smart mouth that she had in X-Men 3. Another one of many reasons I LOVE this sequence and this movie.
