I'm Chinese and I studied Medicine in Australia in 1980's. Racism was so bad. Kids would spit at me from their buses while I was walking on the road. My Professor of Surgery would target me by asking 6th year questions when I was only in 3rd year. He'd shout at me saying he wanted to slap me. Like Pan, I did what all Chinese did-beat them at their own game. I scored top marks but was never awarded top distinction-just 2nd top. My close Aussie friends comforted me it's because my surname is Chinese-not Aussie. Racism in Australia is still alive and well today. My 2 sons got it. Beat them in their own game too-topped their school in English. Pan Zanle-you're my hero. Beat the racists at their own game.

This is my subjective opinion. Pan’s freestyle technique stands out from the usual styles seen in the past 20-30 years. Unlike the high-octane, windmill-like freestyle or the hybrid style with high elbows and shoulder rotation, Pan's technique features lower elbows and a faster stroke rate. His arms sweep lower, resembling butterfly stroke drills, and his shoulder rotation is less pronounced. This approach allows for quicker pull cycles, consistent elbow angles, and powerful kicks, resulting in less splash and a more hydrodynamic performance. Pan's unique technique contrasts with traditional styles, offering a fresh take on sprint freestyle swimming.

Just for good measure, since no western media or youtuber will tell you the full story of what happened in 2021 which led to all this fury, here it goes. In 2021 China swimming association held a national gathering of all swimmers in competitive level in a single city. While the swimmers were there, the Chinese Anti-Doping Agency (CHINADA) tested all the swimmers 3 times during the event. They found 23 swimmers with trace amounts of TMZ in 1 of their 3 tests. They promptly started an investigation which determined that the reason why only 1 of their 3 tests were positive was because all 23 of these swimmers were staying at the same hotel. They checked the kitchen and found trace amounts of TMZ in the meat, in the kitchen countertop and vent hood. All this was promptly reported to WADA. Then WADA did 2 separate investigations of their own which confirmed what was found by CHINADA. So to recap, 1) it was not WADA that did the test but CHINADA, if China wanted to cover it up, they simply could have not reported it at all. No one would be the wiser. 2) The TMZ was found in trace amounts and only in their blood test after that meal. Their initial blood tests were completely clear. No swimmers who stayed at other hotels tested positive. 3) Pan Zhanle, the 100m swimmer and current world record holder, was NOT amongst those 23 swimmers. He was only 16 years old then. This whole thing was not an issue until the NY Times dug it up and made a stink. Then USADA got US congress involved (not sure why since they don't have jurisdiction).

There is an interesting exclusive interview between Pan and a journalist wang bingbing, she asked him that people observed his skill was very precise and efficient, and compare with other western athletes they tend to be much bigger and more muscular than him. He replied that when he was young he watched a lot of classic swimmers (didn't say who) to learn how to be efficient and streamline and precise, and he things he is still far behind those classic greats. Then in the olympics, he saw other athletes and a little surprised to find they are even less skillful than he is, and his win proves that skill can trump over raw power.

They were upgraded in 2009 from 50% polyurethane to 100% polyurethane. Some swimmers like michael phelps and others who were partnered with speedo couldn't wear the newest suits because of brand deals. Speedo only had the 50% one at this point giving companies like arena and jaked a HUGE advantage. 40+ world records were broken in the 2009 world championships mostly due to the suit zhang lin being one of them. Zhang lin was in his prime and an extremely accomplished distance freestyler at the time. Him breaking the world record was no surprise. But, due to the obvious disparity in the suits and how they fitted better on to certain swimmers "bodytypes" they were banned in 2010. Since then the suit market has been fairly even.

We should take into account that the dive in the relay is done with more coupling motion, so the entry speed is higher and therefore it's faster than normal start and you carry that speed with you. Still very impressive.

Many WRs were once thought to be humanly impossible. It was this kind of pursuits that makes human being faster, higher, and stronger.

His childhood coach emphasize more on kick technique and than in his youth, he was train to swim 1500m, that is probably why his technique is so good compare to other 100m swimmers. We gonna see alot of swimmers copying his technique in the future.

Thanks for the video, learned something today. it’s very educational that normal people would have no idea for all the ins and outs of what’s happening in the pool.

Brett was acknowledging Pan performance was god level, and Brett looked down on Australia swimmers to ever break that record.

China should learn from USA and beat the game by declaring more athletes with Preexisting medical conditions such asthma, depression, ADHD…. China should also be allowed to take purple face high octane tonic before the competition.

Very good analysis and comments left here ! Pan's freestyle is definitely an improved version, in terms of arm and leg movements, unlike the traditional ones !!

I think he is gonna swim within 45s sometime soon, remember this game takes place in another continent for him , different time zone, and I heard him complaining how awful the food in Paris Olympic is. My name is Pan too, he is from same province in China with me. Proud of Him. btw his name is not pronounced “Pan Zhan Lee”, but should be “Pan Zhan Ler”

This guy trains hard and put in long hours.Pan wins by hard work and determination nothing more.It is easy to accuse someone as a cheat without any proof.Nut case like this so called coach should be sent to a mental hospital for observation.
