You can clearly see and hear that Tiffany was nervous. She sang well, but messed up some parts of it. At least she tried, and ended the song with a brave smile. I've heard a lot of horrible versions of the US anthem, but Tiffany's version is not one of them. I'm not a fan of Girls Generation, but - they work really hard, so cut them some goddamn slack.

She can support from G3 (even have some moments of F#3 support and her lower register is probably the second most developed in snsd along with jessica's and even better than taeyeon's) up to Bb4 (she also had moments of resonant A4s) . She is also pretty good at adding her own changes to music and doing vocal riffs and runs. Try harder sweetie but your just proving ignorance here

+Amanda Ling My guess as to why most of us Americans don't know our own anthem is because it's both pretty long and hard to sing properly. The vocal range needed is an octave and a half. And when I say pretty long, here's why: She only sang the first verse, out of four. As it is, I'm having a hard time memorizing the second verse myself. Hope this helps.

Idk what people are talking about Tiffany did great even though there were some rough patches and it was ONLY a few! Plus Tiffany was diagnosed with vocal nodules which affects her singing ranges and everything and give her strain. I think her voice still sounds better than alot of current kpop singers because even with her health condition shes still able to hit alot of different ranges that many kpop idols cant

Tiffany did sing a little out of pitch turthfully, but as far as I understand she did her best, and for a singer who was diagnosed with vocal nodules nad has her vocal range narrowed and has been having vocal disorder up till now, she really sings well. She can be placed among the best in Korea if she has a pristine voice. She meesed up the beginning part, but things got the best for her when the national anthem rose to the middle part till the end. She's truly a great singer.

You guys are way too harsh on Tiffany. I don't think Tiffany did that bad to be honest, yes she did strain a few times but she does have a voice for that kind of song, she can do high notes if only she had a little more vocal training she would've strained less. It is also important to note that Tiffany has had an operation a few years ago on her vocal nodules which affected her vocal range so that's why she is not extremely good at singing but I don't think she did that bad. Anyway, Taeyeon did AMAZING!

Both girls did well... Congrats to Taeyeon and Tiffany... Of course, there are off-key notes in Tiffany's performance but all in all it was good. Besides, the US National Anthem is really hard to sing. By the way, I really love Jessica Sanchez's performance at the NBA Finals 2012 (Heat vs. Thunder) as well as Charice Pempengco's rendition at 2009 Dodgers Opening even though she's not American... But of course Whitney Houston's interpretation was splendid. Beyonce's performance was good too. :)

Her strugllng with voice control is nothing new, uncommon or unexpected for Tiffany's vocal covers. She is unnstable in singing especially high notes.
But she pulled it off quite well here even though she went a little off key at one point or another. Still sounded much better than assorted anthem singing at baseball games where people tries to adlib their way throughout the whole thing without quite being able to pull it trough.
Um, actually, it's an in-ear monitor. While they have almost the same function IEMs have this ability to minimize noise and be able to hear yourself (plus the accompaniment). So somewhat, you're right since if you have problems with you IEM without any speakers in front of you, you don't know if you're singing on or off key

But SM only know that Tiffany is fluent in English yes she can sing but actually Jessica is more more much much better than Tiffany especially in singing but Jessica is not that fluent now but she can speak until now because she just want Korean language than English.. :)

Guys, use your brain and think for one second, Jessica Jung is from San Francisco, Northern California, while Tiffany Hwang is from Los Angeles, Southern California, which makes Tiff eligible to sing the USA anthem, and who did she represent? Her past surgery has affected her voice, and like any other injury even the slightest back injury for example can leave a mark, can we just be glad that she's singing it representing herself a damn proud American? And sweetdumps, I'm not an American and yet I know better. Although, she was born at San Francisco, am I right? But she grew up at L.A so imo its better for her to sing it other than Jessica. And I agree with many commenters who say that Tiffany was tryna flex but failed because she did not acknowledge her limitations (lack of good technique, limited range for a big song, added runs in the most weirdest places when she can't do runs well in the first place).
Would also like to add that she had very weak breath support and changes keys very often which makes the whole rendition sound so messy.
She should have just kept her rendition simple like Taeyeon and understand what are her limitations as a singer and maybe have the song play in a lower key so that it would match her range.
But oh well, this episode is long over and I just feel sad for her if she were to chance upon this video and be reminded that she was overly ambitious and created a fool out of herself for this performance.
I'm a fan of Tiffany and Taeyeon in SNSD, so there's no hate here.

Wait wait wait wait I think most of you don't undrestand... She DID hit the high notes but with sofly voice or falsetto but she actually DID and with amazing vibratos! That's why people were cheering because that is not easy I think she did a great job!
she strained, was off key here and there, and her voice cracked, I think that's why people were criticizing.. also, switching to falsetto meant she couldn't reach that note. vibrato is always more for style, and just because you hear vibrato, it doesn't mean much. IMO, they should've re-arranged the song to suit Tiffany's level.. she's always singing outside of her range. the key should have been lowered. star spangled banner is a very hard song to sing so still good attempt to Tiff

tiffany is a light lyric soprano with underdeveloped vocal registers. she is not an alto. vocal range does not determines what voice type your have. how deep your voice sound and how weighted it if says what voice type you have. tiffany only sings nasally which makes her voice sound slightly deeper. adele and lee hi are mezzo sopranos and their voices are thick, dark, deep and heavy. an alto sounds like a boy.
