Every night the show aired, it was on that TV.
On Gabrielle Union’s Hot Ones interview, she talked about how when she was shooting a movie with DMX, she would collect him from his trailer because he had his large dogs with him and most of the crew were scared of them but the dogs loved Gabrielle. One day she went over to tell him he was needed on set, and DMX was watching The Golden Girls and refused to leave his trailer until it finished. She did a hilarious impression of him too, barking “come in! Watch some Golden Girls! Conan O'Brien, the consummate writers' room nerd, managed through sheer force of intellect (and hard work) to become by far the closest direct heir to Carson, the Midwestern farm boy turned cool '60s Hollywood ambassador to middle America who could not be more different a man from Conan. Certainly he is head and shoulders above the crop of unfunny sad sacks who have represented the declining late-night talk medium this decade. @Dave Bach So you don't believe in due process. An accusation that anyone can make, for you, is a finding of guilty. Courts, representation by an attorney, a trial, and a judge or jury's decision is not required.
@@Mo_Taser I researched it (like I always do with any accusations) and there is way too much evidence that Jeff is guilty. I was sad because I liked Jeff.
@@BbGun-lw5vi apparently your research failed to uncover the fact that the girl's own father refuted her allegations and testified against her, in Ross's defamation suit
@@DanFlashes99 You’re right that her father later claimed that Jessica forced him to lie to Vulture for fear of alienation. But he’s a POS and it’s pretty clear he had an incentive for taking Jeff Ross’s side. When Jessica made her allegations, her father told Vulture that he had approved of the relationship between underage Jessica and Jeff Ross. When asked whether he ever expressed concern about the age difference between Jessica and Ross, he indicated that he approved of her dating an older man. “If you go out with a 17-year-old guy, he may want to drive fast and impress you and you get killed, you know?” he says. “I really didn’t think much of it.” But even if you remove the father from the equation. There is other evidence. Seven sources confirmed to Vulture that they were aware of Radtke’s relationship with Ross at the time of the allegations (she was 15 yrs old). Three people also confirmed that Jessica worked at the club and the office (Barry Katz Entertainment) when she was 15 years old. David Batista, who worked in the office as a college intern confirmed the same. He says he was aware of her relationship with Ross and that she had the keys to Ross’s apartment and took Batista there on one occasion.
Bea gets it. That was her type of humour. She didn’t suffer fools and could be prickly at times allegedly… famously not getting along with Betty White for example, but she was also a tremendous humanitarian and amazing talent.
Will you guys please for the love of "god" release the full interviews on youtube? Literally (okay, practically) every major podcast puts out video of the interviews because it's so much better than audio alone.
Jeff doesn't mention yet another later of that joke, and that is that it was a callback to Suzie Essman's joke from early in the show when, in response to what she said were incessant advances by Freddie Roman, "I wouldn't f&$# you with Dr. Ruth's p&$$7!". Dr. Ruth was there and was also a great sport. But for Jeff to insert his joke into her structure was pure genius!!! Another brilliant one was the Drew Carey roast. 👏👏👏

As soon as I saw the title of this, I knew it had to be that joke. I clearly remember it because it was so unexpected and could really be taken as an insult, (Bea Arthur had a gruff voice and not feminine at all) and then the look on her face was like she wanted to kill him. It was so shocking, I forgot he was talking about Sandra Burnhardt, which was the easy part of the joke.
I watched this when it aired, and the whole thing was glorious. Jeff's joke, Bea's reaction. Back in the day I had a group of friends that would all get together for cocktails and nibblies when these aired, and that night we all just lost it at this.
Bea was so awesome, she would be laughing right along with them if she was there. I loved her in History of the World Part 1. "Oh, a *bullshit* artist!. Did you TRY to bullshit last week?"

@@Howitchewstofeel5gum I've seen it. I love both of them so much. Dave is one of the funniest people alive. As soon as I heard his "globe" joke about his dad, I knew he was legit
@@jimlthor Was talking to Conrad there (notice how I didn't @ you), but I'm glad you liked it. Dave really is one of the GOATs
@@Howitchewstofeel5gum haha, my bad. Stupid youtube notification said, "Someone replied to you" and I didn't think past that
I'm a Golden Girls fan. It's often told that she got sick of too many jokes about being manly and unattractive.
Maybe she liked this because he went all the way there and it killed all the jibes.
true, but it sounds like this one actually made her laugh. if she was offended should wouldn't have talked to him at all!
I'll take playful and funny over beauty and high maintenance any day.
Bea Arthur is a gem.
I don't blame her.
@@clivet3252 I can definitely see that. When you keep hearing the same lazy "joke" again and again, it's more annoying than insulting. Like, if you're going to mock me, at least have the decency to put some effort into it. He set the bar so high, even the hacks would be embarrassed to try a cheap "she's unattractive" shot.
The perpetuation of comedic talent and comic relief throughout the years will ensure that we will always have our icons when there is a need to laugh at ourselves.
I hadn't remembered this in a long time. Priceless. Bea Arthur gets the big 👍👍👍👍👍👍😁😁
Best lay I ever had. Ross shoots from the outside and it's all net!!!
Jeff, a woman NEVER forgets.
I saw Jeff Ross back in 2001 at Harrah’s in Vegas (Ralphie May was there too) He had the room crying and ever since I’ve been a huge fan. He’s famous for the Roast’s but his overall delivery is genius. As evident by the “best lay ever” comment. True comedians can amp up the comedy and that’s what he does during his standup. Not just string jokes together like most do.
God I love Jeff, he's carrying that modern torch of proper insult comedy!!
That was beautiful, all the golden girls were amazing but Bea was my favorite, maybe because of Maude but there it is....
I watch Maude nightly on cable. Bea was just ass-kickingly hilarious with the look and the lines. One of a kind.
@@Itelkner 👍 actually I should have said "and then there's Maude" lol...
@@kellygervais3440 Now you got the theme song ringing in my head. Not a bad thing, really. Also, the way Maude struts and saunters around and the wacky dancing. What a gal.
But as great a late-night host as Conan was, he's an even better podcaster. The medium really suits him and you can tell he really enjoys it. I myself only had the shortest and humblest foray into show business but I love these "shop talk" discussions among entertainers. Jeff seems to be really talented, hard working, interesting, and well liked, and shares Conan's real passion and excitement for comedy even after all these years and success. I loved this story about the great legendary Ms. Arthur and am so glad it was as cool behind the scenes as it looked on screen! RIP Sgt. Bernice Frankel, USMC
Very well said
"...through sheer force of intellect (and hard work)..."
Or as Conan's showbiz pal the late Norm Macdonald would say, "through sheer tyranny of will."
I remember watching this as it was aired. I was literally crying from laughing
"literally"
🫥
Jeff, I was a piano player at NYNY Casino in Vegas in 2001. You were in the crowd and I spotted you and gave u a shout out. You were amazed that u were recognized and said that I made you feel like a "big shot" . We went and had a drink and I told you THAT night that the Brew Arthur joke is going to stick with you. I was right! What a great career you've had since. Great moment for me ty
Somewhat paradoxically, Jeff Ross is one of the nicest guys on the planet,
@Dave Bach So you don't believe in due process.
“I really didn’t think much of it.”
But even if you remove the father from the equation.
@@BbGun-lw5vi Okay I stand corrected. Yup, disgusting
Jeff Ross is a class act! He never hits below the belt, he wants everyone to laugh and enjoy including the honouree
This is always a master class. Thank you!
At Pam Anderson's roast, Jeff said "it's not fur, we just forgot to shave Bea Arthur's back." She was yelling and gesturing something...
Bea Arthur can teach a thing or 2 about joke taking to will and jada smith, there's a sentence no one ever thought would be uttered
If Bea Arthur slapped you for a joke, you'd never get up.
Bea Arthur had such a "suffer no fools" deadpan energy that was outmatched by no one.
It's good to know she had a sense of humor.
Of course she did ...how could she not, a comic genius like her?
Amazing story! Love this dude, and will always be the roast master 🙏🏽🔥
LOVE Jeff Ross he is such a great sport. So funny in his roasts
And she was a Staff Sergeant in the USMC Reserve Corp (women in the 1940s) during WWII. She drove a truck and was a typist during her 30 months of service.
"She was hung like a horse" 😂🤣🤣
I haven't really watched a lot of Jeff Ross before other than the occasional Roast I might catch...this has made me a fan! I listen to the podcast religiously and this episode may be one of my favorites! I had many LOL moments!! Great Job!
This is the joke that stuck around and you always think back on at how absurd but hilarious the moment was.
That is a comic artist not just a comic. He was so respectful to those before him and he still fan boyed out talking about her.
Jeff Ross: I’ve never been roasted.
Every celebrity roast he gets roasted by the line-up.
I think he means he's never been the focus of the entire roast
@@nolongerblocked6210 Yes, that’s true, fair enough
She gave Jeff the “Maude angry” look. 😂 I love Bea Arthur.
Bea was so awesome, she would be laughing right along with them if she was there. I loved her in History of the World Part 1. "Oh, a *bullshit* artist!. Did you TRY to bullshit last week?"
He's a stand up philosopher!
Hey... I remember that. 😄
The fact Conan actually shut up and let Jeff tell his story uninterrupted is a rare thing.
Great story on the joke-writing process from idea to delivery to reception to post-reception. Hilarious!
Only thing is, that joke is a mirror of an earlier joke made by another breakout roaster of that nightm, Susie Essman: "Freddie, I wouldn't f**k you with Dr. Ruth p***y"
Hilarious. Bea Arthur was a treasure. I was in HS when the Golden Girls were a hit. I lived with my grandparents who never missed an episode. I'm not ashamed to say I loved the show. Especially Betty White and her Saint Olaf stories. Cheers.
You can say what you want about Jeff Ross but he is a living legend..
Jeff Ross will hit you with jokes, but he will then turn into a marshmallow and love on you. The guy is class act.
I loved Jeff Ross in Princess Bride.😋
Bea Arthur reminded me of my Aunt Paulette, you couldn't really tell if she was telling the truth or not the whole time I was growing up! And she got me so many times, I loved this episode!
Jeff tells the best stories
The lady next to Conan, I think its his asst, has the GREATEST laugh!
I love Jeff Ross.
I cannot believe how clean and unsuspecting that “best lay I ever had” punchline landed. What a legend 😂
Still the best dig I have seen in a roast.
Bea was no rookie to comedy so she knew what was up going in to it.
The thing about this is that I'd bet she was feeling left out to be there and not have anybody coming at her, so him saying what he said was I'm sure extra welcome.
