dead rising is one of the best games ever imo. especially one of the best zombie games.

its a game meant to be played multiple times, carrying over your level as you learn more about the mall, where stuff is and how to move around more efficiently to rescue everyone and defeat the psychos.
I've never understood this, as much as I want to like the DR series, I think it's unbelievably mediocre. Back in the day, yeah, great games but they didn't age well at all.
It's supposed to be this cool game with whacky weapons to try out on zombies and areas to explore. Then they make most attacks weak, items limited and put a timer on you so you can't do any of that. You've got the whole survivor escort bs. Which just feels like a coinflip whether they get caught or not, unless the ''look back while running forward so no zombies spawn in your path'' trick works. I do like how weighty the controls are, atleast for 1 and 2, you do have to somewhat worry about enemies and it's a little tricky to move through them. Which is nice, if the zombie aren't a threat, they might as well not exist. Progression is nice enough I guess.
Psychopaths, which seem like the meat of the game, usually devolves into spamming them to death while trying to avoid their spam, or just running back and forth until they do their ''i'm exposed now'' attack. Combat against humans/psychopaths isn't fleshed out enough for anything interesting to happen imo. Maybe you hide and shoot them 120 times from behind cover..
@@famulanrevengeance3044 everyone has personal preference, I'm going to specifically talk about dr1. imo dr1 is the best of the series. no combo weapon or exo suits. frank doesn't really do one liners. he actually seems like just a regular guy that got himself in way over his head trying to get the scoop. i also think dr1 has aged just fine, it was a close to launch title for the 360, its not going to be super realistic graphics but it hold up pretty well on the series x hd version.
thats the thing, dr1 was not some whacky game, YOU could dress frank in funny clothes which carry into the cutscenes, which can change the tone of the scenes lol but dr1 was not meant to be like that. attacks weak? in dr1 every weapon is a 1 hit kill, except against psychos ofc. dead rising games in general are NOT meant to be beaten on your first run, sure its possible, but you realllly need to know where to get some of the better weapons and stuff is in general.
item management is nothing new, in resident evil you have to jam everything into a suitcase so it fits lol. its second nature to me now to separate my 2or3 weapons then my 1 or 2 queens (for oh sh*t situations) and fill the rest of my inv with OJ. makes it easier to get to what i need, but thats a huge part of DR is managing your inventory as best you can while also keeping an eye on the time limit and any survivors.
also if you want super OP weapon for psychos, break the mannequin and grab the torso, the torso beats food court carlito in 2 hits, adam the clown can block but still takes massive damage from the mannequin, when he blows baloons if you shoot it it pops and stuns him a sec. the mini chainsaw from adam is legit the best weapon, mega buster be damned. get a few magazines for the saw and it will bust about never break (you can go back to the ride and get another, repeat.)
the timer, everyone looooves to hate on the timer. without the time limit it is NOT a dr game. your meant to be on edge, constantly unsure if you will make it or have to sacrifice a side mission to do the main scoop. that said, you can completely ignore survivors if you want and only do the main scoop. OR once you fail the main scoop there IS as continue playing button. which lets you continue saving survivors or just to mess around in the mall but with no more main scoops until the military comes. FYI: i have done both 100% survivor runs from level 1, its definitely possible once you know the game mechanics.
Survivors are also very misunderstood imo, iv watched a bunch of dev videos and cut content videos for dead rising 1, very interesting stuff. the survivors are SUPPOSED to be that way. they are supposed to show fear and get overcome with emotion (why they randomly crawl sometimes), the same reason they shake their head and refuse to run straight into a horde. they actually were going to be more in depth with this kind of stuff but im guessing ironically time constraints and hardware limitations killed all that. theres a magazine from the cult leader that makes survivors essentially "ignore" those programmed emotions later on which makes them listen better too. most people i guess forget you can set waypoints for survivors, in the mall, most places you can waypoint them super far ahead, have frank wait back while they run. when frank moves zombies spawn in his vicinity. that trick plus keeping 1 or 2 queens makes most survivors pretty easy. the ones you can carry or offer shoulder to make it so you can just run thru zombies with ease. so yes, the survivors do work as intended, again it just takes game knowledge.
as for general traversal is a pretty common strategy, jumping past zombz means they cant grab you just slap thru you, personally i really like the jump kick too.
progression is literally watching frank go from couch potato to full on athlete with cargo pants lol it is random what you get each lvl up though.
psychos, i actually agree with you on. they are amazing in dr1, as far as the before and after scenes but the actual battles are meh. i like the psychological aspect of how they all basically broke down mentally for different reasons. not sure how they could really make the psychos any better though, within the mechanics of the game it makes sense this way, but just like its missing an extra layer.
the dr1 story though is PERFECT! its the perfect cult B-Horror Movie game. the whole plot of needing endless meat is pretty good. (look up the real life cloning of polly the sheep). of course it gets alot of comparison to dawn of the dead too. frank just being a regular guy works very well, his reactions seem pretty genuine to the situation (unlike chuck). Carlito and isabella forming this whole plan after santa cabeza including sleeper agents who were all orphans he infected and spead all around the country. the coverup of the whole area, which is why frank goes in the first place. its simple yet very well done.
theres so much more to dead rising 1 than just all this too.

Come on man, this game's a hot mess. Perfect? Fun, unique, interesting, immersive... all of those things. Definitely not perfect. -game had and has so many problems . . . playing today it looks and runs smoothly on PS4 and 5 for example, but can still genuinely be a rough and funstrating experience, especially for newcomers used to more fine-tuned controls and movement.
