I honestly recommend playing DR 3 and ignore 4. Trust me, DR 3 may not be familiar entry we all know and love, it is an insanely fun game. Trust me, you’re missing out on 3!
I've always went by the notion that people who initially didn't like DR3 re-evaluated it to varying degrees after having played DR4 and hating that instead; but there's been a small portion of the fanbase that has liked DR3 to begin with and I'm part of that minority.
For a dead rising remake, I want the first game but MOREEEE! GIMME MOREEEE!! No sacrifices, just more options. More story content. More customization. More More MOREEEE!!! Also co-op pls

Dead Rising predated the over saturation of the genre by about five years. It came out when Re4 shifted to Ganadoes, a few years after the Dawn Of The Dead remake, Shaun of the Dead and 28 Days Later. The first game is about 4-5 years older than The Walking Dead show, 2-3 years before Left4Dead.
DR2 doesn’t get enough credit. Like sure, you could argue that some aspects of the original are better, but overall DR2 is an awesome game… also helps that it was one of the only Dead Rising that wasn’t Xbox-exclusive until the first game’s remaster in 2016
I mostly don't like how stiff the animations are. In 1 Franks moveset was pretty exaggerated. At full level you could kick a zombie across the mall. In 2 Chuck is a bit too grounded.
For sure but for some reason dead rising 1 and 2 feel different, maybe the color pallet, lack of photography, introduction of zombrex, and the abundance of casinos make it feel different. Also combo weapons MAJORLY changed the game. That’s probably why I enjoy playing DR1 more than it’s sequel.
DR2 is a great game and a fully worthy sequel to the first game, but i feel like it took away a lot of what made that first game special, which is why i don't like it as much. the first game had a b-movie plotline that allowed you to choose whether you took the game more seriously or more comedically, but i feel like the cheesiness in dead rising 2 was amped up to a factor that it's hard to appreciate the serious aspects the game's plotline does have. not to mention i personally think that the mall casino thing was just a little bit overkill, and the mall areas don't end up even feeling grounded as a real mall, because when have you ever seen one designed like that? the first game's aesthetic nails the appeal of a realistic retail space. but i'm just a guy with an opinion.
Off The Record is my personal favorite in the series and is now Canon to me personally lol I always revist the First and Off the record every once in a while and treat both of them as one big story.

If you think about it, they've been using the RE engine like crazy and it does make the graphics insane without taxing whatever is running the game too much, but I really dont think it would run smoothly rendering hundreds of zombies like you would have to do for a proper DR remake. I don't know anything about making games, but I assume It would have to be created on an entirely different engine

Nah nah nah, I was on board until you said you hadn't played beyond "Off the record". Don't get me wrong Deadrising 4 is bad and massive let down but DR3 is worth the time. DR3 is different and it has it's caveats but both DR1 and DR2 have the same caveats attached to them. Personally I think the first is the best game and like you didn't gel with the tone of DR2, however I really thought DR3s tone was a healthy compromise between the two. If you can get past the Jank of the older games you'll be okay with 3 and might be surprised. Here's hoping for a remake though
Isn't a DR video without the maker complaining about something that gives the game actual difficulty. "wHy dOeSNt It sAVe aUTOmaTIcALLy" also hilarious how often people say the survivor AI is bad when they just don't have the slightest idea how it works because they expect the game to play itself and don't pay the slightest attention.
Only time I find it's frustrating when the game crashes lol. If you played more DR2, or played it before 1. I can see the complaint about the AI, it felt much easier in DR2. Regardless if you paid attention to the mechanics in DR1 it's really not that hard to guide survivors. Only when you're trying to have 5+ survivors climb over safehouse ledge does it actually feel broken.
The only time the AI pisses me off is that damn ramp at the very end when trying to get them in the safe room. Like fuck just get on. Who ever decided to put that ledge there can rot in hell. God Forbid you have more then 2. Best bet is to just take in who ever feels like actually coming up and coming back out to get the other idiots that didn't want to come up. But other then that I find If you just spam Follow me and give them directions and guns they are good to go. Especially guns they are actually good with them.
For all the shit the wii port of the original Dead Rising gets, i would rather play that game over DR4. It's bad, like violently so, it's not even fun in the "turn your brain off" way.
Im not sure I'd agree that Dead Rising 2 was more over the top. The first game was extremely silly and over the top too, and had a lot of comedic and goofy elements. I think both games are great though and the third game was a massive disappointment.
dead rising 3 was kinda mediocre but it wasn't as bad as 4 and it still had a pretty decent enjoyable story. it just lacked a lot of the features that made the original and second so special and made the game a lot more generic. at least it wasn't as bad as 4 though

Dead rising 1 and 2 plus the spinoffs of 2 were the best ones, 3 was okay and 4 wasn’t that awful but it sure wasn’t a good dead rising
