  • @Kallenator1988
    @Kallenator1988 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    This isn't all that bad, consider for a moment that a Mitsubishi i-Miev has factory net capacity of 14.5kWh in a 16kWh pack. The Motorcycle here has 11.6kWh in a 13kWh, but with much more modern Li-ion cells. If the rat rod isn't too heavy and has a reasonable efficient drivetrain then this could probably average 40miles per charge. Will you be adding any of your Tesla 5kWh modules to this project?

I considered this for a small pickup truck. For more power and 4wd you can put one in the front and one in the back. Just have to cut a hole in the bed to accommodate the rear motor.

    He used only 3 batteri packs to a Remote toy car.
    Thats the engine you got to use. With a big battery it wil have tons of power. Try to watch he’s trike build.

    Rich is awesome! Im really interested in electric cars. My old boss had a 2001 Tiboron and he went through 2 gas engines in it. He was gonna let it go cheap. I wanted to do a Tesla motr conversion in it. It had a 5 speed. The only bad thing was it was front wheel drive.

    People weren't saying YOUR prices were too high, they were saying THE prices were too high. Normal people who only spend 1000-2000 on a car and make it last 5-10 years CANT afford to spend thousands and thousands on converting their current car.

    That is, without a doubt, the jankiest machining operation I have ever seen. Also, your buddy may want to move the cans of flammable liquid somewhere other than immediately behind the grinding wheel...
    Other than that, pretty sweet build. :)

      Oh, and if you want a small lathe, look for a used 9" South Bend. They can be had for about what a modern Chinesium one would cost, but they're far more capable machines. They were designed for small work in production machine shops, whereas most small modern lathes are aimed at hobbyists. As a result, the SB will cut better and last longer than any new lathe in that size range.
      They also last *forever* if you keep them oiled. Seriously, mine was made in 1936, and it works flawlessly. For the sake of comparison, I've already had to replace some bearings and rebuild the spindle on my 5 year old Jet mill, and I use the lathe more. I have no doubt the South Bend will be running in another 80 years, but I would be shocked if the Jet lasted half that.
      The model A is the fanciest version, with power feed on both axes and a quick change gearbox. The Model B has manual swap gears, and the Model C has manual gears and no power feed on the X axis, but any of them are still great. I have a C, and as you've probably gathered by now, I love it. They're surprisingly common, considering their age; there's almost always one or two on Craigslist where I live, and there are always a handful on eBay.

    Thank you for grounding directly to the part instead of through the lathe's bearings. Few people realize how much proper grounding improves the welding.

      That's why the weld looks so great.

    You know you can (things that I’ve never done) for a fraction of the cost (things I’ve read on the Internet)... I could do it so much better than you if (never made it myself) blah blah blah.
    Awesome videos where you actually do it and show us the process

    Dayum, Rich! I never noticed how jacked you are until this video. You are sporting some serious pythons. Between your channel, your garage, your family, your collaborations, when do you find time to go to the gym?

    You should cut ready to use adapter on that laser. You were already there! Why not draw it cut it locally from vinyl, stick it to plywood, cut it, check it and then make the final one on laser.

    I hope there's a new lathe in the budget cause welding most of the time kills the bearings
