Joe Raposo was such a awesome genius when he composed the music for this show and a few others. He reminds me alot of Howard Ashman one of my most favorite Disney songwriters. It's so sad how both Howard Ashman & Joe Raposo are passed away. May they both rest in peace.
Ooooooh! My childhood! I remember wondering " where could that train be going?" The music and the picturesque surrounding never ceased to bring tears to my eyes. And I was a young black boy in the hood! Lol
Funding for Shining Time Station is may possible by grant from Amtrak. The America''s best train service for decades. And also, Funding for this program is may possible by grant from the Corporation from Public Broadcasting, And by Public Television Stations and their contributors.
It's funny, Shining Time Station came to the USA when I was 10 and I didn't discover it until I was about 12 or 13 when I was home from school for a year with a serious broken leg... I liked the occassional real "live" railroad stories they'd have as well as the Thomas stories, they gave me so many ideas for my model RR.
I can't say I've ever done that. But I have ridden on that train. UP 844 out of Cheyenne ,Wyoming. Truly a beautiful machine and worth riding at least once, you won't be disappointed.
I love that song the Space Jam soundtrack. That was one of my favorite albums of 2008 when I was 17 I jammed to it all Spring & Summer long. Oh yeah and yes very wonderful memories too. I miss the the early and mid 90's.
Very cool, Even Union Pacific Railroad in the credits at 0:37. I was born in 1987 so I remember this show, plus my dad worked for Union Pacific, retired just last year after 40 years. I road behind UP 844 in 1989 and seen it a lot since, I forgot 844 was used for the opening and closing. I am 4 years old all over again.
This was my favorite show a kid.Anyone think that shows back then where just better?one of the biggest things is just because the shows didn't try to teach you something so stupid.like can you find the freight car full of bricks.
BTW, I believe the 1984 PBS Split Profile logo would have been shown after the end credits. The 1989 CGI Glass P-Head didn't start usage until October 2, 1989.
C.J. O'Dell Ah, I see. Whenever I saw this at my babysitter's residence, I'd run into another room when those credits were just about over because that logo used to scare the living crap out of me to the point where I'd be afraid it would attack me at night while sleeping! I must've had quite a crazy imagination back then!
He passed away a month after the series premiered. So Steve Horelick took his place for the rest of the season. Paul Derrick Mason composed some additional scores throughout the entire 1989 season.
@@CJODell12 At the same time, He was doing Sesame Street for it's 20th Season at the time. Sadly, Season 20 was Joe Raposo's final season. Season 20 was also, Norman J. Calloway's final season. Norman Calloway was best known for his role as David. Joe Raposo died on February 5th, 1989 and Norman Calloway died on January 9th, 1990. Leonard Jackson (who played Harry Cupper) went on to become Mr. Handford (the new owner of Hooper's Store, after David left Sesame Street). Mr. Handford was originally a fire fighter.
For the second and third seasons, the font for the end credits was changed to Latin 725. For the 1995 Family Specials, it was changed Garamond. And for Mr. Conductor's Thomas Tales, it was changed to Century.
Aww that's so sweet. In that case you can go over to amazon.com and purchase Shining Time Station VHS tapes and start a collection for him to watch cuz that's what I did. But I'm just suggesting really is all :)
Britt Allcroft and Rick Siggelkow really hit a home run with Shining Time Station and it’s pure nostalgia.

We need these shows these days..I wish that they would come back so i can share them with my children before they get to old.....
Ooooooh! My childhood! I remember wondering " where could that train be going?" The music and the picturesque surrounding never ceased to bring tears to my eyes. And I was a young black boy in the hood! Lol
I've also wondered where that train was going.
I love this song
I miss this show so much 😭😭
Me too
Yeah they were really awesome. Shining Time Station was my most favorite. Such great memories. I wish I could go back.
This was back when Shining Time Station only aired on Sunday mornings.
I Remember That Too**
I wish PBS would continue airing reruns of shining Time Station on the weekends it would be nice for today’s generation

I regret never getting a chance to see much of Season one on TV.
This is too cool. I remember watching this show regularly when I was a child.
I remember arguing with my little brother over whether the engine in the end credits was the real life version of Henry or Gordon lol
CptSchmidt 😂😂😂same
Me 3.

It's either Hiro or Merlin.
@@YurrickLamhfhada This shows 844's potential she is definitely a Living Legend

I hope they restore the original Season 1 closing sequence which had the original oval logo when the show is released on DVD.

Love it i want to cry :D
Hey cool I saw Vaneese Thomas on the credits. She's one of my most favorite singers ever. Really awesome Jazz singer.
Good question. And it sucks that it cancelled or let alone not show re-runs anymore. I just don't understand it's my favorite childhood show.
BTW, I believe the 1984 PBS Split Profile logo would have been shown after the end credits. The 1989 CGI Glass P-Head didn't start usage until October 2, 1989.
+pannoni5 Any chance you could upload it?

Did they also use the "Public Television Stations" line?
I didn't know that Joe Raposo composed the theme song!
He passed away a month after the series premiered. So Steve Horelick took his place for the rest of the season. Paul Derrick Mason composed some additional scores throughout the entire 1989 season.
February 5, 1989, exactly a week after the show premiered on January 29, 1989.
And, IIRC, Jonathan Freeman is the same one famous for his Disney role as Jafar.

@@jerrywright4886 Yup, at the time, Horelick was performing similar duties on fellow PBS Kids series "Reading Rainbow."
They just don't make kids' shows the way they used to. Nothing's inspirational anymore.
It was mine too! It got replaced with Theodore Tugboat. I never liked that show.
They need to bring a new shining time station for this generation with the same song!
I know where this style font in the credits came from at the time, it came from the McNeil/ Lerher Newshour.
For the second and third seasons, the font for the end credits was changed to Latin 725. For the 1995 Family Specials, it was changed Garamond. And for Mr. Conductor's Thomas Tales, it was changed to Century.
