So are we just going to pretend that the high price tags on these artworks are because of their artistic value and totally not because the ultra rich are using them to avoid taxes and launder money?

@@mikeg4972 That's probably more like it. Also, one would have to budget in a few weeks to learn how to do that. I had a gf in college who took a studio art class for the humanities requirement, and her professor had students paint squares and rectangles, so through her I found out that it's harder than it seems, but it's not as hard as painting a decent portrait of a person.

There is a theory a lot of rich people spend crap loads of money on art in a way to launder dirty cash. I don't know the in and out of money laundering so don't know if this theory is credible or not.

I really couldnt agree more, and commented on that as well. I do understand their purpose, and realize their art so i wouldnt go so harsh in my criticism as you did. However to in any way put them in the same league as the master artists is a travesty, and imho was a sign of the deterioration of society and humanitys sanity. We have now gone almost completely insane as a species in general, but lucky for us extinction is not far off either, so toodle-oo silly humans, play times over, its back to reality, time to wake up smell the coffee and pay the tab. Lmfao. Bye. 👋

@@donfields1234 I would definitely agree with the original posters harsh judgement. It seems that the totally disconnected message that goes with the art has more value than the art itself. As far as the art, I think a 1 year old could do better but goo goo gaa gaa wouldn't be much of a message for the idiots that stand in front of these paintings to discuss, while patting each other on the back about how enlightened they are & the peasants that are not. The people that spend this amount of money on scribbles & blocks are, without a doubt just buying a personal status symbol, hey I'm so rich I can buy scribbles for millions!!! I also agree with you that the human race has gone completely insane & totally brain dead!!!!

I’ve yet to name my “artwork” , I must move the car and have a look at it and decide what to call it. In view of what we’ve seen here, maybe “wankers delight” would be appropriate and draw a huge price,.....it comes with a house 😎

I think people dont understand how dangerous the art world can be. Art is frequently used as currency for very shady things. Like arms and high volume drug buys. You cant give someone a check for illegal things. But you can give them a painting. Another reason is that 1 million dollars in 100's weighs about 20 lbs, and takes up alot of space. A painting can be easily smuggled, and is easy to carry.

(Father was a classically trained artist...this shite tended to frost him. lol. Youngest person at time ever allowed to do copy work at the Met. Yes, one of the things he did that was that was a Rembrandt, and yes, it was lovely). They try to assign those values because the style is 'new', 'different', etc. Some of that honestly just looks like the canvas boards I clean my brushes on.

Art prices are completely obscene. Original art, unless commissioned by a patron, should belong to the public and displayed in museums. Just sayin'...

Any comment that ends with "Just sayin'" should generally be dismissed as worthless. The same goes for any comment preceded by "Not gonna lie."

All of Da Vinci's works including the Mona Lisa and Salvator Mundi are over rated! He was by no means the greatest painter. In regards to his visionary inventions he was a thief!

I dont buy rothko (literally, pun intended) nor other similar works, i understand their purpose, but in no way, shape, or form can i justify those styles in the same class or value as those of the many true master painters. Its just not there...period. 🎨🎼🎻

You know they talk all fancy and stupid it's ridiculous what you have here is a bunch of rich people that don't know what to do with their money so they spend millions of dollars on one art painting it just looks like a bunch of scribble Scrabble I just seen ugly piece of art that went for millions of dollars and it's just a bunch of scribble Scrabble I can do that myself I guess I just don't understand why anyone that had that kind of money would just throw it away for a piece of scribble scrap it makes absolutely no sense to me that's why I say you got a bunch of rich people with a lot of money that don't know what to do with it so they buy a piece of art for millions of dollars and a lot of times it's so damn ugly I don't even understand why a person would even purchase something like that

Imagine the prices of the paintings that the nazis looted during the Second World War that were never recovered by the allies

I believe that Switzerland is hiding many of those paintings and other valuables looted by the Nazis. Look for videos on the 'free trade ports'.

Some of these paintings I wouldn't touch with a ten dollar bill, and look like my grade school art work. no accounting for some peoples taste. Perhaps when I have been dead a few years they will be sold by the kids for something.

Definitely some of these were not to my taste either but I wish enjoyment of them to those that do. Me, I'd love to be able to afford a few Eyvind Earle prints.
