The black Idler Pulley you installed I also bought to put on my mower, which is the same craftsman but the pulley was too big, I believe. When I installed the Pulley, my belt was extremely tight, and I couldn't get the left and right deck arms in place with the cotter pins. The original Idler pulleys I had on my deck were both smaller than my new ones, though. I don't know if they came like that, or someone just slapped those on.
Look up the Pulleys and Belt with your Model number under seat. Starts with 917.###### Then six digits after 917. Check and make sure Part Numbers are the same as what you ordered
Hey just stumbled across your 2 videos. Thanks for posting them. 👍🏻 I have this mower it’s a hand me down. When engaging forward you can creep onto the speed and will jerk from a stop also when reversing only goes at snails pace on flat or decline will not reverse up hill. Think that would be a drive belt slipping or transmission related?
@CreatureofCuriosity It sounds like the Hydrostatic Transmission is going out. You can check the belt, But I'm pretty sure its the transmission. Those Hydrostatic are known for that problem This is as close to the transmission as your gonna get link below amzn.to/3G1dR3X
Good afternoon Sartin Garage I'm Brendon remove your non adjustable hanger and order yourself an adjustable hanger on the right side of your deck. You're supposed to have 2 adjustable hangers but Craftsman only put 1 it's crazy. Your deck will mow unevenly with that non adjuster hanger that's not good when you get your 2nd adjuster your deck will appreciate you.
My DYS4500 has a broken deck and I think it is missing the front rod that connects to the deck shown at 1:26 in your video. Do you have any idea what that part number might be or called?
I am having a real hard time connecting the spring to the blade brake. So it’s the spring if I am standing on the left side of mower. . I’m a newbie so I am talking big time beginner terms. Any trick to reconnecting it?
Loop a piece of rope around end of spring and pull the spring and connect it. The rope size should be like 1/8 about like the rope to pull Start mower. Will need atleast 2 ft or longer if needed. Fold rope in half and connect rope to end of spring at the fold of rope. Wrap other end of rope around your hand a time or 2 and pull the spring and connect it.
I have the same mower. Need to replace the deck parts. Thank you for your video! Very well filmed.
Just what I was looking for! Thanks so much. Well done!
So you like bad boys? Well I use crome sockets on my impact. Lol great video. Appreciate the helpful insight

Also my smaller Idler Pulley is not steel like yours it is plastic. Is that correct?

Question: Is the purple wire coming INTO the regulator supposed to be hot (positive) ?
The purple wire is usually your charging output wire. Goes from regulator to key Switch.
Man my big pulleys are stuck on and didn’t come off easily like yours lol
Sometimes they are rusted and stuck especially when Mower has been left outside.
Hello, any link for the blades ?
