Recently I purchased this craftsman riding mower/tractor for $100. It was running and driving, but not very well. It also had some issues with the spindles on the mowing deck. Lets take a look at what's wrong and get it fixed up.

I like to put in grease fitting and leave those seals out :)
This video is one of the best I have watched for mower repair pointers. Really like the detail and time taken to explain what is being done and how to do it correctly. Great results, the YS 4500 looks fantastic.

Really it’s best to remove cover, rebuild carb , new fuel lines and cut off valve, service filters oil and blade plus new battery
Yea lots of money in it but they bring so much more all fixed up 😊I remove and inspect belts also
Deck bring are questionable there replaced and drilled for zerts 😊
I don’t try very hard to sale them and they can set for some one who will take care of them
Alex for a nice tractor like that with all the maintenance you did and clean up, i would start at $1000 OBO. I dought they could find a nicer tractor. I do think you doing a video on detailing a machine would make a great video! Stay safe my friend! 🎥👍🇺🇸
Would bring 700 in our area maybe if no plastic trans, can easily spend 500 just fixing one back up in top shape less the seat

Alex, I got myself a couple sets of micro drill bits and so far have drilled one idle jet out to get a carb to provide adequate fuel. I would have done that with your second carb.
Ayp and Husqvarna mowers are the best home owner grade mowers glad you got that Husqvarna made craftsman mower in running condition there Alex you are right about one of the ideler pulleys is on the way out I just got the oil change done on my craftsman gt tractor The grease in those ideler pulleys is gone Glad you got those ideler pulleys in running condition again there Alex

Good find for $100. Pulley noise is a common issue with craftsman/husquvarna pulleys...
After working on several different brands at a shop. Almost the mower spindles are using sealed bearings. You are wasting you are wasting your time and grease. The only way of making them is to disassemble them and remove the inward facing seal. I always took the ones without grease fittings apart drilled the housings about 1/2 the way up tapped inserted grease fittings and reassembled them.

Looking good! I saw someone hit the black plastic with a propane torch (I do that) and then lanolin. I’m going to try that with some undercoating I already have to see what happens.
I just picked up one of these today for two hundred bucks but it had the 26 horsepower v-twin and the 54 inch deck

Nice find and restoration Alex! That mower is in top shape after your touch. With how nice it is, I think you could list it for $950 this time of year. Hopefully sales are strong for you! They have been usually good around my area of NC this October so far.
Another good video; I like how you took the extra step in the paint refurbishment. A JD LA110 with an Intek I am refurbishing had that same Nikki carb did exact surge problem. Thought it was a dirty fuel tank issue so I cleaned tank and carb out, put new filter on; started engine and it went from surging to either ran on choke or low idle only, no in between. Wound up buying new carb. I am glad you mentioned it took you 3 carbs to find one that worked.

I would have sworn the bearing on the deck idler was really shot! Did you check the wobble on that one after you serviced it? Seeing as how the spindle bearings were shot and they all lived under the same conditions and hours it would have been suspect in my mind.
Can you show how to adjust the governor? I adjusted it like the videos I watched but for some reason my idle is backwards. Push the handle all the way up is idle and down revs it up. I don't know what I'm doing wrong
What do you use to clean the plastic fuel tanks? I come across a lot of them where the tank is all stained up like this. Thanks!

Are the 42” and 46” decks on craftsman’s usually interchangeable? I’ve got a rusted out 42 but know where to get a 46
Yes as long as they have the same hanger mounts and deck cable bracket they will work just fine.
May I ask what you can get for this series of mower in your area after repairs and detail? I do the same as you in KC. 🙂

I've got and older craftsman the blades want in gage I changed all the switches even the set switch what could be wrong
Did you check to make sure it has a belt coming from the engine pulley and that the belt is mounted correctly?

I'd start at 800
