    anyone having trouble getting off the filter housing or cap off try it with a breaker bar. You can get one for like $12 and Im sure you will find plenty of other users of having one around

    Thank you for this video. I have my Toyota Camry 2017 with 4 cylinder engine. Do you know after how many kilometers it is recommended to replace the engine oil? The Toyota web site says 10K miles (16K km), but the dealership told me 10K km and my mechanic suggested 8K km.

      Depending on the type of Oil and style style of driving, go with what the manual tells you. Synthetic allows longer intervals and conventional is good as well. Stick to what you’re comfortable with, every 5k for conventional and 10k for synthetic - if you don’t have the manual.
      The manual will outline various driving conditions and will give the correct guidelines.

      Eh I wouldn't listen to that, I would honestly change your oil every 3-5,000 miles if you want to keep your engine in absolute prestige condition

      I’ll fix it, here’s an alternate link.

      Wrenches and sockets:
      amzn.to/3UkiSdw
      Additionally, if you are doing more more on your car, you may want to go to Lowe’s or Home Depot to get a bigger set.
      Harbor Fright is excellent as well if you’re looking to start out on a budget.
      Here’s the extension if it helps:

    Does the oil filter have to be the same size.

    • @YoDIYVideos
      @YoDIYVideos  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s a paper filter, go to your local dealership or your auto parts store and give them the make and model. You don’t want to try a different size if it doesn’t match the filter of your model car. See the link in the description if you’re wanting to buy online.

    An over-tightened filter cap drain plug is a common problem. Unfortunately, dealerships and franchise lube shops don't properly train and/or supervise their "lube technicians". Anyone who wants to avoid an oil bath should follow the factory torque specifications: 10 ft-lb for the filter cap drain plug and 18 ft-lb for the filter housing (some claim 23 and that's okay too).

    • @carlovanrijk4039
      @carlovanrijk4039 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      James Deal, thank you for those torque specs. My sister has a ‘17 Camry SE, and I wanted to make sure I didn’t over-tighten it, especially with the plastic housing. I might try to talk her into getting a cast aluminum one instead...like adding an extra pound is gonna adversely affect her fuel economy. 🤷🏻‍♂️

    I've been a professional mechanic for 45 years, and this damn job stumped me. The instructions on the side of the Toyota filter box are fucking useless. I couldn't figure out where the damn small o-ring went, my filter housing came off exactly like yours did. I saw that I shoved the plastic drain up into the engine, and nothing came out, then I looked up in there and there was nothing to engage the plastic into. So I finally gave up and searched youtube, and NOW I see where the damn little o-ring goes. I really don't understand why they'd have a two piece canister, I bought the damn filter special wrench, but when I crawled under the car saw the 3/8ths square drive and used that instead. I use Mobil 1 in everything I own. I'm gonna do the trans fluid soon, I will use the WP spec, World Product I believe, Toyota fluid.
    Thanks for the video........by the way, it's called a drain plug, not bolt. Oh Look!!! A Scotty Kilmer video!!!!, what a fucking moron.
