David is, in my opinion, the heavy and driving force of the danish death metal scene. Especially in copenhagen. But the Copenhagen and "Jyske" death metal scene is two different Things. The "Jyske" death metal scene is a lot more like the Swedish one, with sometimes more of a melodic, sorta "Death" like vibe (Especially the New BAEST album). The Copenhagen is way more rotten, and just pure filthy. Just pure Guts and Gore. Chaotian and Septage are deffinitly bands to check out.
Makes a lot of sense, I had the musical distinction in my mind but didn’t realize it was also geographically defined. In this video we see mostly the brutal / gore side with the exception of BAEST.
my personal top 5: 1. Iniquity - Serenadium 2. Dominus - View to the Dim 3. Illdisposed - There's Something Rotten...In the State of Denmark 4. Konkhra - Sexual Affective Disorder 5. Detest - Dorval 6. Exmortem - Berzerker Legions 7. Lustration - Urges

so good to hear and see - David's list - I knew one band (undergang) i knew a few from Brad's lists - but thanks for so much to go discover. And wait til you hear the new HYPERDONTIA due in a few weeks. Insane.

Well here I was getting ready to see which bands would be mentioned. I did almost choke on my coffee when my old band demo was brought up. I was the Vocalist for Despondent Soul. Anyhow enough of the self-promotion and on to more pressing matters. Sorry but what a generic bunch of bands he mentions. No disrespect to any of them, but why no IllDisposed, Konkhra, Mercenary, Autumn Leaves, Dawn of Demise, Infernal Torment, LIVLØS, Iniquity, Detest and new guys Defacing God?
The 90s Danish DM scene was incredible man...not sure why those bands get overlooked. I once read a review of Illdisposed 'The Four Depressive Seasons' and it was described as just sounding like a Bolt Thrower rip-off (?????). So much more to that album...much darker and more interesting riffs than Bolt Thrower. I really got into early Konkhra, Illdisposed, and Panzerchrist in 1997/98 when I was 15 yrs old!! Konkhra 'Sexual Affective Disorder' is in my opinion is still one of the hardest hitting albums ever made!! (I still recommend it to others all the time!!).
iniquity - serenadium has gotta be one of the meanest death metal albums i've ever heard, incredible production, nice middle ground sound between bdm and more traditional death metal/death-doom

I love Septage - their singer is so brutal. Also, I feel like Hatesphere needed to be mentioned. Their melo-death sound was super popular in Denmark about 15 years ago, and they were the biggest at that point. Not my cup of tea, but they were huge in Denmark in the 2000s.
Konkhra's Sexual Affective Disorder forever! This is what I wish groove metal turned into, and it's one of the few examples from that era I can recommend aside from Pungent Stench.
Trve. Spit or swallow also still rolls with the best of 'em. And although not death metal technically Mnemic also did a respectable job before Passenger.
Yes!! 'Sexual Affective Disorder' breaks my neck everytime man -haha!! One of my all-time favorite albums ever!! Have the original long-sleeve, cd, and LP and the new reissue with the demos!! I feel like not enough credit is given to how quickly Spotify anticipates exactly what you're looking for. A lot of bands, albums and songs probably start with hyper, but I only got that far before Spotify basically rolled its eyes and said "You're clearly looking for Hyperdontia, here you go." Anyway, great video, a tiny bit that I knew but loads I didn't!
Dawn Of Demise Ferocity Corpus Mortale Hatesphere Dominus Invocator Illdisposed Bæst Panzerchrist Autumn Leaves The Arcane Order Koldborn Synthetic Torture Iniquity …. So many great Danish bands
How illdisposed isn’t mentioned in this video baffles me... One of the biggest old school danish death metal bands of their time. They finally made it big 11 years into their career in 2004. When they signed with roadrunner records and released 2 critically acclaimed albums. “1-800 vindication” (2004) and “burn me wicked” (2006) In 2005, 1-800 Vindication was ranked number 490 in Rock Hard magazine's book of The 500 Greatest Rock & Metal Albums of All Time
my danish bands, of all time, are absolutely DOMINUS, in fact I tattooed The First 9 on my leg, ILLDISPOSED, KONKHRA, INFERNAL TORMENT. THE DEATH METAL SCENE IN THE 90S WAS IN STOP ALSO THANKS TO DIE HARD REC. which produced very beautiful albums.
I hadn't known Baest before seeing them live (with Abbath, in 20...18?) and they were phenomenal. Really good live band and back then they were really just only starting out
Mark my words: Danish Metal is taking over! I am betting on this for quite a while now and mainly because of my good friends in Baest! not a danish band but definitely check out the album iniquitous by rottrevore from 1993 if you like undergang. very similar sound. classic pennsylvania osdm interesting that you mention morbid angel as an influence on hyperdontia i always viewed them as similar to phrenelith in the dead congregation inspired sense but now that i think about it yea i do hear a lot of morbid angel in their riffs imo the danish scene is the most underrated and arguably the most important death metal scene in the world right now.
