- This video took blood, sweat and tears to make...but seeing my favourite PS2 games play smoothly on a relatively affordable and pocketable gadget makes it worth it! Apologies for any mistakes made in the video.
Emulator used : AetherSX2 v.1.5-3668
Unless stated, all games use the default Settings :
GPU Renderer Vulkan, 2x Native, Standard Performance Mode
Note : "High Performance" in the video means using the Retroid Pocket 4 Pro's High Performance mode
Where to buy the Retroid Pocket 4 Pro:
Official website: www.goretroid.com (recommended)
Amazon : amzn.to/3Ug9UzN (commission link)
AliExpress : s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_EuD... (commission link)
Monospace's Compatibility list : linktr.ee/monospacecompatibility
Note: This playability tier list is only based on the first few minutes of the emulation. Performance may get better/worse as you play the game.

I loved the video it was fast and dynamic, I could bring a video of all the ps2 games that the Pimax Portal console can run??
Thanks matee
ouh hell yeah brotha been waiting for this! Now gotta wait for other consoles like psp, ps1, gamecube, and etc if you still have the energy to do it that is lul
Lol, surely will do several Gamecube games. Not sure of PSP and PS1 though as they should perform smoothly for all games!
All psp and ps1 games run smoothly and at 2x+
i waiting this a lot, thanks
Hope you like it!
Gotta love it. No nonsense video.
Thanks man
Now I can finally play katamari on my lunch break
Nice vid bro thanks
Any time
Nice video dude
Thanks for the visit!
Can i ask? Is this console become hot in your hand if you play like 3 hours straight?
Interesting video! 💎💪🏽😉
Glad you enjoyed it!
FYI if armored core runs poorly its actually more of a settings issue with the color buffer iirc, it even happens on gaming pcs. It will run at full speed with one setting altered.
Thanks for the input, never really played Armored Core, so wasn't able to clearly compare to the original
@@monospacechannel yeah it's no worry! The games are fun, but a bit clunky. Several of them have bizarre emulation issues for some reason, but it's always an easy fix luckily.
GameCube next? 😅
Good work bud, love your vids!
Thanks mate, appreciate the supporr!
I was hoping to see The Warriors on here as its a classic Rockstar title IMO otherwise great display of games being tested
27:59 Where did you get that Mr. Mosquito quality? Other machines like Anbernic gives poor picture quality.
Lol. It’s an interesting game only for men of culture
Much appreciated
Thanks for watching
El video que necesitaba.
Im still gonna get it 😅 thought but great video thanks for showing ps2
Glad I could help. Thanks for watching
I forgot to say nice vid bro Your videos are very useful if u make a Wii Compilation can test rythm heaven fever and izuma eleven stricker 2013 please? And thanks for All
Thanks! Wii game test on the way!
@@monospacechannel tysm! I can't wait for the next video :D
thanks bro
Thanks for watching!
Unfortunately Steambot is too heavy. Wonder if it works in Odin 1 and 2
No idea how Armored core is working... I'm on same Aether version and it runs at like 10 fps...And it says he's running at default?
It would be very very helpful if you could share a google sheets file with all the games tested and how they performed. Like if they hit +60 fps or under etc…
It's on the description of the video! Although I have yet to add the FPS
Only suggestion for improvement would be include the game title when showing footage. Otherwise pretty good job
Wait, aren't all of the game titles already shown with the footage?
You legend!
🙌🏻
Also thank you 😊
Thank you too!
did i miss something on marvel ultimate alliance on 26:00, it say super smooth but the game look super choppy lol
Hey I felt the same to be honest. Feels choppy but it says it is running at full FPS. I even had to recheck whether I set some frame skipping. Was the game always like that?
Ave to enable/disable so something with the vsync to have proper frame pacing. Can't remember exactly the setting though
Soul Caliber 3 works fine if you use OpenGL 1x native and high blend!
But reliability? Why some ppl complain quality issue
What do you think about RP4 or RG556?What would you choose?
I chose rp4 pro, no ragratz!
Only thing I dislike is the tiny minaature screen...performance much better than anbernic though.
Just received my rg556 a couple of weeks ago. Will test soon!
@@monospacechannelwhich size did you take For all this PS2 games tested and which One?thanks For the next answer 😁
How much worse will the regular version of Pocket 4 perform in GC and PS2 games? Haven't you tested it?
That video is in the making! Stay tuned
I'll wait for the 5
Yo el 6
God bless you, fucking legend
only ps 2 games?
does it comes with build in games?
or u do it your self?
Only tried PS2 games in this video. And nope, the retroid does not come with any games, you need to find/install them your own!
PS2 is the peak system for this handheld, it'll run all the systems earlier than PS2 no problem. So Ps2 and maybe game cube are the key systems to test to find the limits
Wait for RP5
Can you try out switch games??
I didn't know so many PS2 games support 16:9 aspect ratio
Hello,
Thanks for your vidéo.
Please Could you test on PS2 kof2002 um and kof98 um ?
Thanks a lot
Are these PAL or NTSC?
How can I get one of these?
Would you create for RG556 too? ^-^
On it, stay tuned!
Where’s Dance Dance Revolution?
Waiting for RP5P....
RP5 Pro or Plus may be close to perfect I would say!
Rp5 pro plus but with same tiny iPhone 6 screen... 😢
Zone of the enders 2 was definitely not smooth after the initial sequence
No Shadow Hearts Covenant? Hmmm no Blood Will Tell or Haunting Ground.
So many great games on PS2 that even testing 200 games is not enough to cover them all!
Can you try two PS2 games?
1- Namco X Capcom
2- Onimusha 4 Dawn of Dreams
Can't wait to know more about wii and GameCube performance on this little beast.
gamecube is really, really well in this device, all games i test, runing awesome in 2x resolution
Yup Gamecube emulation should perform much better than PS2, will test several games soon
Yeah I'm playing arc rise Fantasia for the wii on2x resolution with 60fps patch and its works awesome
Crazy how no one is advertising it's power on gc and wii.
Thanks for testing so I don't have to 🙏
Any time!
Can it even fit 200 ps2 games?
Depends on you micro sd card
Now please do the same with anbernic rg556 please
Soon mate!
This or switch lite?
This for emulation/android games. Switch lite for switch games!
how about amiga games
Amiga games runs fine on it
there is a script that makes burnout 3 run at 60 fps at normal performance settings :)
Wow, share with us how to do that!
why was The Getaway such a failure?
The game does not seem to be optimized for emulation just yet, never saw getaway playable in any emulation gadgets
Finally guy who knows what's important. No PR bullshit, just plain gaming. Thank you.
Thanks man!
i miss when you used the pieces of paper to show the statistics
Hopefully it can come back soon, Figured sometimes it's too much work lol
some games you need to tweak more
Can emulate some wii games?
Definitely! Will test some wii games soon
@@monospacechannel tysm!! I know itd kinda late but can u try to play mario soccer for wii please? Its my favorite game and i want to see if it can run it please and tysm
@@monospacechannel mario strickers:charged football its the name I would appreciate it if you test it , and new sub
@@monospacechannel Could you please?
@@nugget8168 yo lo probaré.. entra en mi canal
grandia 3 ?
Should definitely be playable
Game! cube! Game! Cube!
Sure, on it! But maybe would not test as many games though!
how about manhunt 1 and urban reign?
just these 2 games ᕦ(ò_óˇ)ᕤ
pretty sure Urban Reign would be playable, found some videos on TH-cam testing them
Maybe I'm wrong but it would make more sense for an emulation enthusiast to buy a non oled steam deck instead of RP4 Pro. Screen size of RP4 Pro is very small I think and you'll get more performance with steam deck. If anyone has the same or different opinion with me, I'm curious about their comments. Thanks for the video btw :)
I have both. I already have steam deck when I bought this device. The biggest factor was portability which both can do however, RP4pro is much easier to carry around anywhere I go.
I get what you mean, here's my experience with it:
For me, the size **is** the feature of the RP4P. For one, it's portability means it's literally pocketable, both in terms of volume/size and weight. It's so easy to take on anywhere without having to account the space it'd take in a bag and how much more load it'd made me carry around, I can take it on the spot at the last minute and it'll fit anywhere. Could even place it in a vest pocket. Secondly, coming from the PSVita, the smallness of the screen not only doesn't bother me but I find it comfortable. In my hands, the RP4P feels better than a switch. And if I want I can still plug it in a monitor to enjoy full size.
Now, for the performance, it actually depends on what you wanna play ultimately, and how long. For me, I waited the RP4P because I wanted a smooth experience up to Gamecube/PS2 gen for few hours play sessions, and it delivered. Switching between the three different performance mode (Standard - Performance - High Performance) make it so that a vast majority of games run surprisingly butter smooth. I barely even use High Performance because Performance is already enough for most games.
So, in the end, I don't think there's a one side answer like this one is better or this other one is. It's tied to what the person seeks, what they are comfortable with to play and what features they look for. I don't consider that SteamDeck and Retroid Pockets actually compete or compare. I'd put the SteamDeck against the Switch, the Ayaneos, the GPD Win and such while for the RP4P it's, imo, more interesting to compare it with smartphones, PSVita, other similar device like Anbernic and Powkiddy, aaaand that's pretty it since we haven't had any big brand gaming device of this form factor since the Vita/2DS XL. I'm just glad some companies took the opportunity to keep this form factor alive.
And as a bonus to add to the potential question "why not play on a phone then ?", I'd say that 1) I like having a separate device so that I don't have to pay too much attention to battery because I'd need to keep my phone alive 2) I like having a device with a certain gaming intended design to it, that includes its appearance but also some features that are pretty much barebone on phones like cooling, performance modes, and included specific features like screen mapping.
@@Dryon1196 Very good perspective. I've been using Nintendo Switch Lite for a while, but the screen always seemed small to me, then I couldn't stand it and switched to Switch Oled and I haven't regretted it at all. Since I may experience a similar problem here, I am actually turning to the steam deck, and since I usually play at home while watching TV in the living room, I don't think it will cause me much trouble in terms of mobility. But since these are "hand"helds mobility is an issue for most of the gamers around. Thank you for long and detailed answer.
The RP4 Pro is cheaper and smaller, these two factors are very important for some people.
You can easily carry it on your pocket, you can't do the same with the Deck.
Portability is most important to me. Steam deck can't fit in my pocket lol
Rp4 pro or odin 2
Ps5
@@elmonoretrogamer4380 Nah bruh had one till a methhead stole it.I got a PS4 pro/PS3 and gaming PC just want a decent old school handheld good enough for some ps2/GameCube maybe Android ports or maybe to install an arm Linux based distro on

Switch pls
and Gothic game
no just no u switch dorks just got to buy a switch stop ruining emulation for all of us / and get ur goth shi out of here xD wtf are u a girl ?
The display ratio is just not right to play PS2 games.
You can change the ratio in the settings, although there will be black bars for sure
Gran Turismo 4 😖😖😩😭
No drakengard
And you _stretched_ them all out into a hideous, false 16:9, too. Great job.
