Speaking of combat in Sonic games, I'm thinking it would be at its best if the combat followed in Pizza Tower's footsteps to a degree - taking full advantage of both your speed and your moves to charge through foes before they can touch you back could, assuming Sonic can do tricks or parkour along the way as a twist, really spice up the gameplay of a more linear 3D Sonic game.
PIZZA TOWER MENTIONED I love what you're cooking here because it could also incorporate the reward for maintaining momentum but if you don't have speed maybe you have to do a simplified version of Frontiers / Heroes combat or something
Mods alone will forever keep Generations as one of the best Sonic games ever. Forget Gens X Shadow, the cash grab that it will be... the 2011 original holds the top three place in my heart next to Unleashed and Colors.
I wish they kept the spindash and the scoring system of the older games in generations. It feels like they would just flesh out the games so much more. But I don’t like the scoring system of colors, where literally no speed is allowed in order to get an S rank, but I like it when the combine use of breakneck speed and just general score
i just realized how weird i find those straight pathways like imagine a normal dude walking down that whole stretch like thatll take an hr and there isnt anywhere else to go
I prefer S ranks taking skill to get, yeah, but i never liked racking up points. Mf i don't wanna slow down i am playing a Sonic game for chao's sake. I mean, Sonic levels were literally MADE with beating it as fast as possible in mind, it's always been the main thing about Sonic really. I'd rather have it be a more strict time to get, (like 1-2 in Frontiers) than have to stop and do a homing attack chain to kill all the enemies when i could just jump over it, which i find more fun and Sonic-y than literally slowing down for no reason. I can get how some people whould prefer it tho, just, not for me really.
Personally I really enjoy the 06 level design because it forces you to take out hordes of enemies to progress through the level, therefore it's not really "optional" + they give you more combat tools to keep your chain going Alternatively if they had moves like the sweepkick you could also make enemy chains go by a lot quicker by simply taking them all out in one big group. There's definitely ways they could make this a factor without forcing people to slow down imo I get you either way!
@@Ivan210bluboi I still like SA2 rankings because you have to use the bounce to keep your combo going in a lot of cases. SA1 is better though you're right
Something I would really like to see return someday are the point bonuses you'd get in levels (TIGHT - 800) for doing something obscure/cool in a level. As far as I can tell only one game does that (Adventure 2) and it feels like some Tony Hawk shit. It's a shame we don't see it anymore because it's like a direct reward for trying something cool. Also: on the level itself, I remember people giving it undue grief due to how "linear" it is, but a big thing that appeals to me about the best boost levels are that they make it feel like you're actually going places with your intense speed. In this mod you move through the city out to a huge lake surrounded by waterfalls back into an elevated town (which you can see in the distance when you're running through the lake). Boost Sonic is at its best when its presentarion is at its best. When it uses its insane speed to let you go through a world that feels like you're progressing through it the more you run. That's not even mentioning all the little side areas like the glowy moss sections you can get to with the grind rails. I hope this guy makes more levels cause I love this level.
YUPP! You hit the nail on the head with this whole comment! The bonuses give incentive to not dropping your enemy combos and basically created Shadow's entire gameplay in 06. It's still important to kill enemies for points in this but it's not as rewarding as the bonuses. They would even reward you for doing unnecessary things that were stylish like hitting the right trick on city escape. I love your analysis about moving through a location and presentation. Part of why Cyberspace felt underwhelming at first was because of it's wide FOV and lack of decoration. It felt too mechanical. Unleashed always whoa'd me like I was seeing Sonic's true speed; which felt even more immersive because the locations reminded me so much of real life with their textures. I love this comment and I'm going to think on this for a while tbh. Also, they've only made one other level to my knowledge: Seaside Hill Remake, which perfectly recreates the Heroes version. It's pretty sick
@DolphynsDeck another fan level that comes to mind when I think about "going places" is Shivery Mountainsides. You start shooting out of a cabin (which is the hub world), down a snowy slope covered in trees, through a town with lots of nice little wooden buildings, almost reminds me of a ski lodge, across the water into a crystalline cave, and finally out of the cave to another part of town, this time during sunset. Not only do I love the varied locations you go through, I LOVE that the time of day changes in the middle of the level. The best boost Sonic levels feel like a journey through a real place, which is what Forces was pretty lacking in. Severe lack of Eggman cities in that game. Imagine a version of Sunset Heights where you cut through town, cross the red bridge, go into a tunnel and through the sewers and end the level on the outskirts? That would've been amazing. But because the level's like a minute long we can't really do anything interesting with it.
I really hope that mods will still be able to work on the new version of generations and if they don’t the porting process will be easy because I know damn well they’ll take down the original version of gens.
I personally believe original Gens would've been delisted already. They didn't forget about it since they're choosing to not have it go on sale all of a sudden. We could also look at when the Classic games were delisted from Steam following Origin's announcement. Did that happen after the official release of Origins or before it?
i thought secret rings was ok. i did have the urge to play it almost all the way through. just to see where i would end up next. the story didnt to much capture me because it was kinda storybook like. the music was the best on the stages near the end think its called night palace. its been a long time since i played it. i didnt really like the dinosaur area much because i felt like i was dodging dinosaurs in the background to much.(go figure) but in my eyes it was adequate filler. the main theme was good but they didnt waste a chance to play it. im not a sonic pro so dont take my view on it.
"a real spindash for modern sonic, for first time EVER" sonic adventure, adventure 2, 06, lost world and de modern skin for classic sonic mod seeing what you just said: 😭😭🔫🔫
If cyberspace stages looked and controlled like THIS that would cement Sonic as the only rival to Mario in the current day. I understand the frustration well, especially since they kept teasing everyone by saying the Generations devs worked on games like Forces.
I considered the drift but I actually find some charm in the jumpball animation. Unleashed HUD is a bit too different since this is kind of an alternate timeline Generations video
Okay, this isn't related to the video (I haven't watched yet) but I'm going on a rant about how weird Generations is continuity-wise. For one, in canon, both Modern and Classic Sonic are supposed to be 3 feet tall, but if you look at their models side by side, that's not the case in-game, which is weird as hell because, again, they're both supposed to be a meter. Second, Classic is a younger Modern, right? So, since it's confirmed that there's no timeline split and it's all 1 timeline, shouldn't Modern remember all the events of Generations? On that note, when Classic shows up in Forces, it's retconned to him being from another dimension, which actually makes WAY more sense, but then they changed it back, so shouldn't Sonic have seen Infinite coming, known his abilities, yada yada yada, and been able to just win? Legit, the existence of Classic Sonic in Modern Sonic games is SO WEIRD. I hope they keep them separate for good, or at least make it make sense.
Honestly, my ideal Sonic Generations mod would be a level pack that actually does what Gens 3DS should have. Game Gear, Game Boy Advance, and DS levels. Sonic 2 MS, Sonic Chaos, Sonic Triple Trouble; Advance 1, 2, and 3; Rush, Rush Adventure, and... Rivals? Colors DS seems like the lame choice. Maybe swap out the Rivals and Bosses for the fitting replacements of their eras, Fang, Gemerl, and Blaze; Laser Walker, Nonaggression (Only one I can think of that's not a "Middle Eggman"), and Egg King. But I'm not sure that one's possible yet. Also the 3DS version of the Time Eater, just to have the better final boss in Generations. Again, custom bosses aren't really a thing yet, but one day.
@DolphynsDeck Yeah, the actual 3DS levels would be nice to have too. Honestly, I'm surprised that HASN'T happened yet. I don't dare hope we'll see them in XGens, though. SEGA has never combined Portable and Console counterparts for a remaster.

i thought secret rings was ok. i did have the urge to play it almost all the way through. just to see where i would end up next. the story didnt to much capture me because it was kinda storybook like. the music was the best on the stages near the end think its called night palace. its been a long time since i played it. i didnt really like the dinosaur area much because i felt like i was dodging dinosaurs in the background to much.(go figure) but in my eyes it was adequate filler. the main theme was good but they didnt waste a chance to play it. im not a sonic pro so dont take my view on it.
"adequate filler" is all I really need these games to be. I like that description
Sonic rush 3D basically
Water Palace is a Generations mod to be fair! This is entirely possible!
"a real spindash for modern sonic, for first time EVER"
sonic adventure, adventure 2, 06, lost world and de modern skin for classic sonic mod seeing what you just said: 😭😭🔫🔫
I'm clearly talking about Generations, that wouldn't make sense otherwise lol
I got the Sonic X Generations ad before this…
LET'S GO I'M SPONSORED BY SEGA NOW
So, yeah. Unleashed remaster when? (obviously not with Generations physics)
I wonder if they'll get the message after Sonic X Shadow...
@@DolphynsDeck Day 1 after it comes out, someone will definitely make Project Unleashed for it just like with OG Generations. XD
Why the actual fuck SEGA stopped producing Sonic games like Generation and Unleashed is so beyond me.
If cyberspace stages looked and controlled like THIS that would cement Sonic as the only rival to Mario in the current day. I understand the frustration well, especially since they kept teasing everyone by saying the Generations devs worked on games like Forces.
Why no unleashed drift and hud😢
I considered the drift but I actually find some charm in the jumpball animation. Unleashed HUD is a bit too different since this is kind of an alternate timeline Generations video
@@DolphynsDeck oh true btw are u going to make ur own mod anytime soon??
@@RIOTZss I did make a Knuckles the Dread mod for Frontiers :^)
@@DolphynsDeck peak mod seen it a while ago but peak
It's not called cheating, it's called "challenging the rules"
The devs gotta work if they want my compliance 💯
Playing the best game of all time before it releases on modern platforms I see?
GOTY every year (especially when it releases)
I WISH I could play this mod… Mac users loose again.
OOF. At least on Linux there's compatibility setups for it..
Out of them all I'd like to see Modern Mushroom Hill the most.
@DolphynsDeck
Yeah, the actual 3DS levels would be nice to have too. Honestly, I'm surprised that HASN'T happened yet. I don't dare hope we'll see them in XGens, though. SEGA has never combined Portable and Console counterparts for a remaster.
Maybe the drop dash in sonic x shadow gens is gonna be like this
I heard that it works only after an airdash which sounds funky! We'll have to see but I'm expecting it to be kind of weak tbh.
@@DolphynsDeck me too
Suck amazing mods, I wish you do more videos of Unleashed mods or Generations or something like that.
Planning on it. It's a little tricky in the current day because most stuff is already covered. I have some ideas for revisiting older stuff though!
Sonic unleashed wii was the closest
this guy sounds kinda like saltydkdan
I heard scourge generations and i am now disappointed and sad. (Edit: js realized your the frontiers super knuckles guy lol)
Still cool mods tho!
I'm satisfied to be known as that guy 😎
Scourge Generations is definitely getting revisited at some point
@@DolphynsDeck love the videos so much (real question is, what about dread knuckles generations.)
If I ever learn Gens modding maybe I could 🤔 would probably have to go over the Real Knuckles Mod
while sonic team still spaming blocky level
Blocky level be damned my Sonic Team can craft some good Shadow levels
