- Sonic Overture is an amazing Fan Game Created by Team Overture, which is advertised as a Prequel to Sonic 1, and it tells you this through the art style of the game. Sonic Overture takes aspects and whole parts of the Sonic 1 concept art and fully realizes them, so in today's video we are gonna talk about Sonic Overture: What Sonic Could Have Been

Feels the Rabbit's name was given by fans, but Naoto Oshima on Twitter stated that his real name was actually Max the Rabbit.

@RafaMarquinaYT From the tweet when a fan DM'd Oshima-san, he believed it was either Max or Retro, so these names were floating around, but never fully decided.
Funny considering the Forget Me Knots rabbit was named Mach, while Max was I believe the monkey. Both inspired by the Sonic 1 beta band.

I honestly like to think that feels is just teaming up with robotnik just to fuck around with sonic. I don't know why but I always pictured him to be a trickster, and maybe feels does not know robotnik is evil so at the end feels will realize "Oh shit I think ive made a mistake".

@@shaulov10 Yeah I agree he is essentially the embodiement of sonic's old cartoon insparation his design took like felix the cat and stuff like that but feels takes it up to an 11 and I love it.
Also feels dressing up as a police officer reminds me of how in aosth, sonic digused himself as diffrent people to trick scratch and grounder accept feels is just doing it to annoy sonic.
I always imagined him being like a certain other rabbit from another game: Oswald the Lucky Rabbit from Epic Mickey.
Starting off messing with Sonic, but then after a while, begins to actually like and befriend him since they’re fighting on the same side.

Bro this game is really underrated and I can see the inspiration from the concept art! The first level is really appealing, I’m a sucker for mountains so- Sonic Overture is a blast and better yet it’s a free game!

I wasn’t a huge fan of the time travel aspect but it did add an element of puzzle solving for levels where you need to be in a certain time, or not in a certain time to progress

This looks really interesting. Idk why Sega doesn't just release a retro sonic game of all the old unreleased ideas they had. It's so obvious a lot of sonic fans love this stuff and would pay for it.
Sonic Mania was an okay attempt, but for me it was still missing that "old feel".
Could also be that Sega didn't keep archives of unused stuff like Square Enix did. Since back in the day they didn't know people would have nostalgia value in their games lol.
A game that revisits S2's scrapped time travel premise would be sick
One thing I didn't like about mania is how sonic is Santiago colored rather than the purpleish tone from S1/CD
That's an interesting project there.
Sonic Mania was a deep love for S3&K explored, the idea that that same type of love can be applied to an earlier Sonic game is astounding. S1 and S3&K have similar but different vibes and I love that S1 gets this treatment. I hope it gets finished too. Would love to see Sega legitimize this like Mania.
S1's art direction was based on Surreal Late 80s CGi Aesthetics
S3K's art direction was based on Tridimensionality
Both games are less based around going fast when compared to Sonic 2
So yeah S1 & S3K feel Similar Somewhat

There's concept art of that wing-flapping boss from the same perspective too. Given it's status as a prequel, I feel Eggman as the enemy doesn't feel quite right. Maybe someone else from the concept art reimagined instead. And if this is all about the S1 concept art, they just HAVE to have the band Sonic and Vector were in! Even though she's from the movieverse, would be nice to see an AU Longclaw in thus game given how underutilized she was.

Sonic Overtune pretty much changed to Sonic Legends, and I think it’s not gonna be similar to Sonic Overtune anymore (unless if the Ultra Ring Team make another sonic fan game or someone else makes something related to Sonic Overtune or the old concept of Sonic 1)

Not sure what the drop dash criticism is about. That's just f***ing stupid. Sonic 1 just had running, jumping and rolling. Sonic 2 added spindash, an NPC that followed alongside Sonic, multiplayer and Super Sonic (oh and also the option to play as Tails solo, but it's more or less the same except no Super Tails here). Sonic 3 & Knuckles added the jump shield attack, various effect shields and 3 playable characters with unique abilities each. Sonic CD added the 8-wheel dash and Sonic 4 pretty much turned into Knuckles Chaotix and had the use-each-other's--momentum gimmick.
Anyhow, point is that every new 2D Genesis entry for Sonic added movement options. The drop dash in Sonic Mania is an amazing addition that's very much in line with what the classic games added. It's besides that it's just stupid to criticize since it's a superb option to get a speed boost and play with momentum. It's probably the best addition to Sonic's movement since the spindash was introduced since with this you can turn around without having to come to a complete stop first and having to build up speed again. I can't imagine a better addition to 2D Sonic.

This whole game is looking like something truly special! The boss of Granite Zone might be my favorite thing about it, purely due to how... legit it feels. Sonic Team _would_ add some pseudo 3D gimmick into their game that showcases the capabilities of the console... after all, they've been doing it even since the first game with the Special Stages! It may not involve any platforming, but still, I love it!
