@@axelestial if you have a pc that is powerful enough you can play it through yuzu emulator (only offline because you need a real switch to play online)
I think they should have allowed you to select the kind of jump mechanics you want to use for your levels, rather than use the New Super Mario Bros mechanics for everything. Also would have been cool to have to use different characters to play with, like Luigi with the high jump, Princess Toadstool with the floating, etc.
Nintendo didn't take inspiration from all the Mario romhacks out there? Figures.
Super Mario 63 flash game released in 2009. So a Mario level editing tool was definitely not something "unheard of".
It was just something not really available "officially" from Nintendo.

Iv just realised this is the best TH-camr, he's a really nice chill person and has a really nice sense of humour. I remember when I found out about the game i would look at the trailer on the wii u eshop all the time, I wanted the game so bad so my parents got me the game for my birthday! I got the one in the box with the art book. At the time I rarely got new games as we didn’t have that much money so I played it a lot!
I wonder where the "SUPER MARIO MAKER!" shout came from. I liked it from the day I had smm on my hands. Also it's sad that the interactive main screen was pretty much reduced in smm 2
Making _Mario_ levels might seem bizarre, but making/editing/sharing game levels has been around for a long, long, time. Doom popularized it, since it was the dawn of "online". But I recall Lode Running -- on the Apple II -- having a level editor and collections of user-contributed levels on floppy disk. Another game for the Apple II was centered around creating (Pinball Creator), and was the first drag & drop GUI I'd ever seen, using the analog joystick.
This was in the early 1980's.
I like how most of your content focuses on topics that other channels don't cover.
I would love to see what the actual tools used to make official games look like. I knew from the start that mario maker would be a seismic shift for nintendo, and it’s quite cool to see the curtain drawn back just the smallest bit as the designers showed us the critical facets that make a mario course (they make sure you remember it is a course and NOT a level)

believe or not there was a zelda maker fangame but instead of link you had different characters made by the team of the game thenselfs but the game was very obvious a zelda maker

y'know i think it says a lot that Super Mario Maker and Super Mario Maker 2 are among my favorite games of all time, and I have so many great memories with them, yet I often forget that Super Mario Maker was on the 3DS.
I think it was a major missed opportunity that they didn't revamp Mario paint's composer aspect for the game. How cool would it be to have an option to make your own level music

I never played the original super Mario maker but I enjoyed the second game! I loved that there was a story aspect to have a journey and feel accomplished with it.
Super Mario Bros 2 would be cool in mario maker but it is much more different than 1 and 3 due to it having special boss fights, and also a slot machine, and items to kill enemies can only be found within grass, also it has alot of it's own level themes, so i can see why it wasn't added.
Finally a history video! I really missed these! I really liked the intro, had a very good laugh! Thank you, Thomas. 😁

Oh, that's a fun story! Myself, I have never touched these games, but I've always been curious! I find the 2D Mario games to be somewhat difficult for me, so I was never interested, but level creating is always something I like to try! Maybe sometime I will!

It's funny because there's evidence in some of the unused levels in Super Mario Bros. U that points to whatever interface nintendo was using to make levels lacking a gui interface. So the tools team never quite got their job done.

I really enjoy watching your videos and seeing how some of my favorite games were conceived and made. I thought it would be a really interesting video to do because of all the instruments that needed to be recorded and the songs that had to be produced. It seemed like a long and hard process to do.
