A very fine movie. Location shooting, John Ford directing, stellar cast, GREAT storyline. I’ve watched it at least 30-35 times. Never gets old.

Just to let those who are interested know,, JOHN FORD, was actully born Martin (Jack) Feeney whos father was from Spiddal in County Galway and whos Mother came from the Aran Islands just a stones throw from Spiddal. That is why John came to Ireland and made this film. He was coming home to his roots as many do each year. All are welcome and find Ireland a wonderful hospitable beautiful country whos people are easy going and love music and a wee drink. Ok . just a little bit of history.

I've been a life long sentimentalist so it's hardly a surprise that this movie has been a favorite for all of my long life. The only surprise is that it wasn't nomi ated for a half dozen Oscars at least: best picture, actor, actress, director, supporting actor, music, cinematography.. Everything about this film is perfect. It always will be perfect.

My wife and I had the pleasure of meeting Maureen O Hara in Cassidys Hotel Glengarriff West Cork shortly before she left Ireland for Boise, Idaho.
She was in great humour and she reminised about growing up in Dublin and how her dad and herself were big fans of the Dublin soccer team Shamrock Rovers.
We have a very nice photo of my wife, Maureen, and myself taken in the hotel.

I haven't visited Cong for a few years, but when I did I was struck by it's incredible beauty. The town and the various locationws is really worth the time. I recommend the scenic walk along the river.I'm not surprised that the cottage has fallen into disrepair as little is done in Ireland to protect sites of archeological interest. However I don't think the U.S.A. can justly point fingers given how we have been underfunding our national parks for years

Wow!I really enjoyed this video and appreciate the time it took to complete! I have stayed in Ashford Castle a few times and the The Quiet Man would come on at 5 pm every day;in your hotel room TV!
It's amazing to walk into Cong and still see the celtic cross in front of Pat Cohan's pub.
    Pne of favorites as well!
UP MAYO as well!! God help us!
I never knew White O Morn was a place you can visit until I saw this clip. I have also tried fishing in the same river.

As I delved into my ancestors, I discovered that I am part Irish! I knew I was mostly Scottish since my grandfather immigrated to the US pryor to WWI. He was from the Isle of Mull and Locke Lomond area. I got the chance to visit Scotland about six years ago and loved the people and environs. When I returned to the US, I kept researching my ancestors. I found a weaver near the coast of northern Ireland that has my surname. And I found The High Road and The Low Road from the area of the weaver to the port that ships would sail to/from Ireland to Scotland. So the next trip to Ireland will be to the area where the weaver is located. I still have more research to do on my ties to Ireland.

One of my favourite films. John Ford was a genius. I just love visiting Ireland, the people are so warm and friendly, both north and south. Big Victor Mclaglen who played the squire, always played a hard drinking Irishman with a great sense of humour but he was in fact born in Stepney in London.

He was very studious and loud until I came forth with some Beggin Strips and afterward was very agreeable to my picture taking. There are some nice beach scenes they missed also, where the race was conducted and of course the churches there in Cong and in Clifden.

I do not know how important the movie is to Ireland, but I know how important the movie and John Wayne is to the United States.
The movie might be far more important to the U.S. than to Ireland.

That sounds like a great idea. Though, when a place goes to ruins to that extent there's not much of the original materials to build on. It would be a reconstruction and not a true renovation. The upkeep would be a project in itself because of the thatching on the roof. Not many master roof thatchers around these days. But it would be a grand project for those who love preserving tradition crafts as well as traditional landmarks.

A group was formed years ago, the owner of the property wouldn't do anything.

Then the solution is to get an Irish petition to claim the place as a national treasure, give the guy fair monetary compensation, and then ban his visa. The Irish people must speak so.

We flew into Dublin rented a car and drove to Galway, on the way north to Cong from Galway we saw the Bridge (west of Cong, but on the way to
cong) had a sign on the road then. Someone said the sign had been taken down. Just ask for directions.
We stayed at a small B&B on the east side of Cong. Went to the recreated Cottage in Cong. They had a Cong tour, a small affair but we
really enjoyed it. Leaving Cong the train station is south east approx.
50 miles. It was intact but not being used.
Ireland is absolutely beautiful. We saw many fields of Irish green.
Summer is the best time to go for less rain. We went in June and it rained quite a bit.June is supposed to not have so much rain. We took layered rain gear so it didn't matter, but we did have several sunny days.
I want to go back. Bought the album of quiet man and listen to it periodically.
