    Nice job!!!
    Whenever I have wear under pop bumpers , I remove the entire assembly and scan the artwork underneath
    Then I take it into photoshop and touch it up
    After that, I send it to my Silhouette Vinyl cutter and have it cut out
    Stick them on the playfield and it looks like new. And no brush marks!!!

      Hi Joe
      I’ve only did this for my own machines
      Never gave any thought of turning it into a business
      The next time you have a machine that needs them, you can send me the scan and I’ll make you one to see what you think of it.
      It will have to be a scan, not a photo
      It has to be the exact size

    • @whiskyguzzler982

      Jay Lasky What product do you use to make the scan?

    • @jaylasky5589

      If I’m doing a large area of the playfield and have enough room I use a flatbed scanner
      If there is not enough room I use a Flip Pal hand held scanner. Works great

    It is sort of a shame the mylar was necessary, but as you and DeadKoby point out, the return on investment isn't worth the headache of having to repaint the artwork under the mylar. You just can't remove the mylar from a machine that old without damage. I used to work at one of the local arcades, and watched as the owner tried to remove the mylar from a machine he was restoring. The exasperated look on his face when he peeled off a huge piece of the artwork would've been worth the price of admission. At least he couldn't blame me for it. xD
    In the end, the opaque mylar covers the dirt and the wear and it doesn't affect the gameplay, so it's all good. I'm with you, though... seriously, who puts that stuff on a machine and doesn't even at least try to clean the playfield first, so all that dirt is trapped under the mylar? I'm an optimist, so I'm going to assume the more charitable interpretation, that they just didn't think it all the way through, as opposed to just being lazy.

    When you can't risk wearing through any paint, you should give clay bar a try. It's what detailers use to remove contamination from car paint. If you're not worried about paint thickness then the magic eraser is still the quickest and has the added benefit of smoothing out the surface.

    @mcostafernando 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Gonna paint my car with Razzle Berry, will be a lot easier to retouch every time it gets a new scratch! 😂 I agree that the black mylar was the best solution, it's sad that the previous owner took the regrettable decision of putting the clear mylar without even cleaning the area first!

    • @LyonsArcade
      @LyonsArcade  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You run into trouble when you have to go more muted or intense so the different colors make that easier... so I have full greens bright greens, etc that push it one way or another plus sometimes they match right out of the bottle!

    After watching yesterday's video, I was hoping you were going to try to, matt down the mylar a tad and paint the bad bits over the mylar and then clear coat it. Thus locking it in.

    • @LyonsArcade
      @LyonsArcade  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That would work but I didn’t really want to do all that on the mylar because I believe it would flake off pretty easily but it might’ve held up I don’t know

    • @DaveCorbey
      @DaveCorbey 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@LyonsArcade I wasn't sure either matting down the mylar will help the Acrylic stick but it may still peel off irrespective of the clear coat. The other way I considered was matting and painting the mylar underneath and then placing another clear mylar ring on top to lock it in.
      Perhaps something to try if you come across the problem again, or where a section of playfield has mylar over bad paint...as long as it doesn't create too bad a ridge.

      Just wait till one day I have to mix different kind of colors paint to get the 'correct color' I need. I would ruin the whole thing, then do it everywhere and call it a 'redesigned playfield'. (Picasso became famous with his ugly paintings, right ?)

    Great video, as always. Do I really have to clear coat it after painting? Can't I just put a good coat of wax on it for at-home use?

    • @LyonsArcade
      @LyonsArcade  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you paint it with acrylic paints they are water based, so the problem you'll run into is the paint will just rub right off if it gets wet, or even if there's too much humidity, etc. If you paint it with oil based paints you don't have to clear it, but they can't be easily cleaned up if you paint it the wrong color, etc.
      You could try a spot then wax it and see if the wax takes the paint off, it may....

Can you elaborate on what clearcoat you used? Also, how did you clearcoat around or over? the bonus lights? You didn't show the clear coating so not sure how to do or make sure it blends with the surrounding areas? Also, the lower "clear" region on mine has some wear through the is flaking more and more as it wears. Is there a way to do that clear? Thanks for any further advice! Great Video!
