    I used to build stuff like this for a small local computer company back in the late 80s/early 90s when I was in college. LOVED doing it...you can totally get your OCD fix populating circuit boards. Still have the old Weller soldering station I used back then.
    While modern tech is all well and good, it's a lot less approachable/repairable/understandable than stuff like these displays or the pinball machine itself. I really miss that.

I wouldn't mind finding another pinball machine that I could rebuild or supposably some guy over Orlando that has old Warehouse full of them but I haven't pursued anything yet

    That is nice!! Can that type of solution be used to replace the displays on a Gottlieb System 1 Roller Disco maschine as well? If saving the one's on there doesn't work?

    • @LyonsArcade
      @LyonsArcade  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't believe they have made any for Gottlieb games, because they usually don't go bad. Is the one you have just dim, or completely out? If it's completely out you'll probably have to find another used one, if it's just dim you can zap it back bright, Todd Tuckey @ TNT amusements has a video showing how to do it!

    OOOHM long O. You got it. I had a job at the lemon lab (what we called it) at an APC UPS plant 20 years ago. Interviewer took me into a room and on the wall was a huge schematic of a UPS control board. I had to identify all the components and how they worked. Zener diode kind of got me, out of the hundred of parts. I had not worked with them in the service when I was a tech in the 90s. Still got the job. They had a few bad parts come in the year before and had 20,000 bad UPSs in the plant. So we worked changing the three bad parts and testing for 6 months. Then the fired all of us. Thats that game. I miss Radio Shack.

    • @LyonsArcade
      @LyonsArcade  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It will actually work, it juts has a little black dot where it's burned... so if the video makes the image look a little blown out (because the display is pretty bright) it kind of blurs it but here in person you can see the last two digits are messed up looking. You could absolutely leave it and use it, some people just put them down on the 4th person score since you hardly ever need that one anyways...

    Looking better, will be cool when it was done. Had to skip the instruction reading though... Personally I would rather you read the gist of it for each step while building the boards. It's always possible for someone watching to go grab the instructions and read along if they wanted. Maybe that is just me though, who knows.
    The most intricate thing I have done soldering wise so far is my Oxygen Analyzer. But been flashing a bunch of Tuya based RGB bulbs to ESPHome which is a pain. Gotta use a linux computer with a WiFi adapter that can be set to AP mode, then connect a phone to the hotspot, then connect the lightbulb, and finally flash the new firmware and hope you have the WiFi stuff correct or at least have the hotspot working so you can fix it. But when it's done I have lights that I can control with my local Home Assistant install vs sending EVERYTHING to China and back, plus mine work when the internet is down.

    Ohm, from the Greek Omega
    That is why they use the Omega symbol
    I don't know why they picked the last letter in the Greek alphabet
    I thought it might have to do with the fact that you often see a resistor as the last part in the circuit diagram
