“I don’t get out of bed for anything less than a celestial” so, it’s a No for me. Lol. I will say it was a totally inoffensive film. It doesn’t do anything outside of the “Marvel blueprint for winning” So much so, that we ignore everything that doesn’t make sense.
I wish I had enjoyed it more. My problem was that the jokes didn't land for me. It was an hour and a half of me just sitting pained while an ant played drums and characters made corny dad jokes. I actually loved the stuff about going into the quantum world and meeting Ms. Pym and finding out she's this Mad Max adventurer in this crazy subatomic world where whe's presumably been adventuring and hunting and killing things to eat for thirty years. I want to have whole movies set there. I thought that was the best part of the movie. That and the water bears...because WATER BEARS!
Honestly, Ant-Man & The Wasp is one of the most enjoyable movies in the entire MCU. A huge part of that is because it's NOT connected to all the big ominous stuff, and it's allowed to just be an ultra-fun superhero version of Honey, I Shrunk The Kids. Is it one of the BEST MCU movies? No. But that's why best and enjoyable are different things.
It was the epitome of following “Marvel’s guide to winning” it just doesn’t take any risks at all, in its storytelling, characters, or villain. I still Like it, but it is just a filler movie, until the next infinity war/Capt.Marvel continues the larger story.
I actually liked it more than most Marvel movies, simply because it was so "small" in scale and not connected. It felt like a Breather and I found that extremly charming
It’s Halloween next week. The “yeah baby” was in reference to the fact that Austin Powers is played by Michael Myers and Michael Myers is also the name of the baddie in Halloween.
Hank Pym is definitely wrong about Pym Particles. He’s been shown to not like being wrong, or working with others, so it fits. If he was right: - Ant-Man floats away as soon as he over-enlarges in the AirPort fight scene(he has less density than air) - he couldn’t possibly move his multi-story building, like it was made of legos. The comic explanation works better. 99.9% of his mass, is transferred to another dimension, when he shrinks; and he pulls mass(atoms) from that dimension to over-enlarge. It makes everything basically work from a (simplified)scientific perspective, and lets you use it for food production. Just not meat based food, unless you want to deal with, dumpster-sized parasites, and garbage can sized viruses/bacteria.
Shrinking is the most scientificly unrealistic superpower of all. You either have to change molecular distances, which screws up all the molecular interactions, or you have matter disappearing, which is against the conservation of matter/energy, and also makes complex systems unshrinkable. You can't just take out parts of DNA, it won't work.
Nathan Carrille Yes. Super strength, extreme durability, extreme energy density, super speed, mind reading, regeneration, electricity, shooting beams, and forcefields are theoretically easy. We just need a few more decades of engineering. Time travel, over light-speed travel, interdimensional stuff and phasing might become possible one day. Shrinking is unrealistic. Also material changing, like Colossus and Sand-man. I have a problem with those.
I've always assumed from the movies that the Pym Particle emulates the activity of the Higgs Boson which assigns the proper mass to their atoms, scaling it up or down as the object shrinks. The exploding sheep are what happens if you don't get that calibrated right. Nobody ever says Higgs Boson, but when they talk about quantum particles that's where my mind goes.
If you guys are still out of ideas for when Captain Marvel comes out you could always do one of the TV shows, like the rest of Agents of SHIELD, or the terrible Inhumans. You could even do the Defenders Netflix shows, but I know you're probably sick of TV after Dr. Who...
I enjoyed Ant-Man and the Wasp more than most of the MCU movies, because I got so tired of the "Save the planet from boring bad guy" plot and it was nice to have smaller stakes for the planet, but very important for all of the characters involved.
9:45_Soooo then Ultron was right, LOL. The part where you guys were mentioning how science can do anything and it will make sense simply by putting the word quantum in front of everything, but I would've mentioned how that didn't save or if only that could've saved the Casino Royale sequel "Quantum of Solace".
nitpick - hank pym says he changes the distance between atoms (iirc) which means he isn't making more matter by enlarging things therefore couldn't use it for food production...
unfallen_bulbitian Hank Pym is an idiot, who never liked being wrong. We know through science that if he was right. -Ant-Man would have floated away in that Airport fight, as soon as he went big. - he couldn’t have moved his multi-story building around like he did, in this movie.
The comic explanation works better. When he shrinks, 99.9% of his mass goes into another dimension. When he over-enlarges, he grabs mass(atoms) from that dimension. It would be he only way to make the movies work as well. So, you could use it in food production, but just not with meat. Unless you want to create dumpster sized parasites/bacteria/viruses. You make everyone eat soy-based foods, that have been neutron bombarded before enlarging, and has been GM’ed to have different tastes. Like they are doing now with Algae. It’s getting genes from a type of seaweed, that tastes like bacon, when it’s fried in cooking oil.
You could raise a herd of cows in a field the size of a doormat, or ship a million tons of grain in a suitcase. It certainly wouldn't _hurt_ food production and distribution.
If we're trying to science it then changing the distance wouldn't alter the weight so they couldn't carry buildings and all that. Not to mention that going subatomic is impossible for obvious reasons. My point is they're not paying attention to the science, so you probably shouldn't either.
@@GoatPopsicle et al yeah i figured it was a bit of a dumb nitpick trying to logic comic book science - all replies have valid points. I do think Ant-Man was less dense in the Airport fight though, he moved like a giant balloon...
