You should relocate the washer/dryer to the basement, finish a section, and the laundry cupboard could become a pantry! Long term plans, haha!

Don’t rip out the “old wood” on the hydrangea! Hydrangeas bloom on the old sticks. The green leaves show they are coming back, and those are actually massive, well established hydrangeas! You’re sooo lucky 🥰
Agreed! They’ll love them, a hydrangea hedge is so beautiful and low maintenance.
Also, the old wood supports the weight of new growth-much nicer than staking. 😉
As someone who bought my first house last year my best advice is to remember that you can take your time to make changes! Going from renting to owning is such a weird change in mindset where I have to remind myself I’m planning to be here for years so I can take my time to figure out what I like and don’t like. You’ll definitely figure things out as you guys settle in. Congrats!

Congratulations! What a gorgeous home & there’s nothing wrong with wanting to change things! It’s YOURS! Not bratty at all. A tip for the hardwood floors: if you still want to change them in the future you can refinish them to the color you want and that might make up for the width of the planks! Hardwood floors are more flexible in style than we think :)
Can’t wait to see what you end up doing with the backyard & landscaping and how Brody acclimates! I know Brody is the best boy and well trained off leash, but maybe consider fencing around the perimeter just because you don’t know what other animals/strays may be around and linger over to your yard and possibly cause harm.

So excited for you guys and love the house so much!! I have an idea for the primary bathroom, to keep the storage but also be able to have the joint look - it will take construction so take it with a grain of salt or put it on your long-term renovation list. I would say move the two sinks and mirrors closer together (maybe doing a single mirror or a single sink with 2 faucets) and add the storage to the right side next to the shower. Also, Gretchen, you CANNOT change those railings! They are precious! But totally agree with new countertops for the kitchen and probably some of the hardware. I'm excited to see what you do with the master closet!

idea: for the slip cover on the top floor do serena + lily pattern slip cover!! still subtle and beachy but they have the most amazing neutral patterns!
You can always just refinish the floors with a different stain rather than switching entirely. It’ll give you the color you’re looking for but not the width!
Gretchen god is amazing and seeing how happy you are with max and now a home together just shows that god is just laying his hands on you and guiding you to his plans ❤ I just wanna grab my two goldens and take them to cape code with you and Brody 😅😍

I grew up on the cape!! The hydrangeas aren't dead!! you just have to trim the sticks back to the new growth every spring :) they'll get big again!

In my parents home they have a white bathroom with white counter top and white tiles with a royal/navy color vanity base with gold handles and gold lighting accents… looks extremely lux with a mini nautical flare
No need to apologize! It’s beautiful and you can change whatever! I think if you take that middle part out of the primary bath and make a window there instead, it would brighten it up! Also just do new glass pieces for the fire pit, they look so cool when the fire pit is on! Maybe black.

If you don't want to rip out the wood floor you could always refinish them and then pick a lighter stain!!

Beautiful house, yes location is very important. My current apartment unit is missing a few like to haves (in unit laundry and private patio or balcony for example) however it has all my need to haves (dog friendly, ideal size, dishwasher, plenty of storage space, 1 bedroom not studio, great location and rent price).
So excited for the Reno updates!! I think you guys made such a good decision buying for location because you can always change the interior:)
You should get glass fronts for the primary bathrooms weirder cabinets. I also saw someone do glass shelves and put their perfumes there

It’s your home and your decision, but those floors are GORGEOUS, I would leave them 😂
Instead of ripping up the floors you can put down laminate or vinyl flooring in the style you want and still have the old floors underneath in case you want to go back to them
With the outdoor shower you should make it a removable head so you can clean Brody outside

I would say don’t make changes to the house that resemble what you want in a primary residence (even though this is temporarily your main home). Make changes that you want to have from the lens of it being a beach home one day! I don’t know if that would change your vision at all, but just something to think about :)
