You’re a lifesaver! I owe you. I have a 2008 Mercedes C300. It wouldn’t start. It wasn’t a battery or alternator issue so I thought it was the starter until I seen this video. It was the steering lock issue because when I put the key in I didn’t hear the zip noise like you mention, so I did what you said by putting the key in and turning the steering wheel back & forth and that un jam the steering lock & that fix the issue. My car started right up. Thank you my friend I was preparing to take it to the shop. Where can I send you at least $20 for your help?
@@MercedesBenzTechs Exactly. Every time I park the car I make sure the steering wheel is straight before I turn the key to off position. I haven't had this issue since then

Wow, my Mercedes c300 has been sitting on my driveway for 6months because I thought it was the ESL. After looking at this video it make me take a look at my 2yr old battery. And yes, it was no good. I replaced it and now the car turns on. Smh!!! Man!! I feel dumb. But thanks you really help me out. All other videos tell you it’s the ESL, but you explain what it does if you have a good ESL or not, that really helped me out too. Thank again!

I have a 2008 C300 that wouldn't start because of the steering lock failure. The battery was okay, no lights on dash. To avoid a tow, I released the steering wheel level adjuster (underneath the steering column), and slammed the steering wheel up and down. This released the lock and I was able to start it. Drove it to a shop for repair. This is only a temporary solution to avoid a tow.
I have a c250 2012 drove it about a block then it completely shut off. It unlocks and the radio works but I cannot move it out of gear. The key turns to 4 but won’t turn on. ( last few weeks I noticed it kinda got stuck when pressing the gas) like it would take longer to respond. Any thoughts?

We been having bad storms and did not drive the car for 5 days ! And the car was dead ! Dead dead no crank no start ! After taking it to a shop ! The guy claims I need a new fuel pump at the cost of $1000 parts and labor ! Had it towed back to my apartment as I knew that was not the problem! Was able to get it star and run ! But unfortunately the repair shop had stollen parts from the car ! The break light switch and even the connector and harness are gone
My 2010 C220 wouldn't turn over despite the battery being fully charged. I tried the trick of moving the steering wheel as suggested in the video and the steering lock disengaged. The engine jumped into life when I turned the key. Thanks for the tip!

Thanks for the information. I have a 16 c300 that won’t start. However mine is recognizing it’s on park. I have many mechanics that looked at it and went through it even the local dealership. As a matter of fact the Mercedes dealership also requested a technician from Germany to look at it and with out any luck. I had to tow the vehicle out and still trying to find out what’s wrong.
I don’t understand why Mercedes can’t solve arising issues with their vehicles🙄 I seems to me they just Love whacking people with over charges!! That’s why I’m going back to Lexus!!
I have a 1999 C230 Kompressor, W202. The tip start worked intermittently, sometimes requiring several tries to start the car. I tried a number of things including new relay, new starter and solenoid, new fuse box, new battery and removing the key assembly to have it checked over with the keys. All to no avail. Finally a light dawned and I realized that it is an infrared key. I cleaned the tip of the key with glass cleaner and I wiped the inside of the ignition latch with q-tips. Problem resolved. Hope this helps.

How common are the Mercedes fuses to buy? Do auto parts stores such as Advanced Auto hv them on hand? Also i hv a 2004 Ml350. Put in new starter, it turned over, lasted for a month that way, then wouldn't turn over again. I replaced it with another brand new starter and it wouldn't turn over. Lights on all the lights on the dash but just won't fire up won't even click. if there's any way out of bringing it to my mechanic please let me know, battery fine, fuses I've shifted around to check it seemed okay.

Hi there! I have a 2008 Mercedes c350 4matic. Car will not start at a all. The key fob seems to work fine with unlocking/locking of doors and with illumination lights showing up but only in the middle tachometer where mileage is located. So battery seems to be okay. Also I'm able turn the key in the Ignition all the way to the right but with no response whatsoever unfortunately. Any advice or solutions you may know of? Really appreciate it! 🙏🏾
Hi I have a 2011 E350 cupe when i put the key in the ignition it turns but ignition lights don't come on then I have to play with it taking the key out and putting back in 3-4 sometimes 7-9 times before the lights turn on and it starts I changed batteries on both ignition keys still the same problem? Hello Mercedes tech Please help I have a Gl450 sometimes it starts quickly and other times it takes several cranks to start (sometimes the cranks sound slow and sometimes good) but it always starts. The battery voltage goes down to 9 volts when starting, so I changed the battery. Same problem so I changed the starter with a refurbished one. And I still have the problem. Any ideas? Thank you

Hi. Great channel. I have a e 270 cdi 2005 model. Battery is in the boot. The car was working fine. Parked it in the garage. Came back 2 weeks later. Battery was dead. Tried using good quality jumper cables. Car wouldn't start just made a clicking sound, I then took the battery to be charged, its carong power but car still doing the same thing and on the dash it says battery protection mode disabled. Jim Gar my steering wheel locked for the first time got a jump from another car the car starts but have a voltage of 11 while running do you think that could cause the lock position thanks
@@cease19811 I've heard from some that replacing the battery was a temporary fix. Eventually their steering locked and had to get fixed. In my case my steering eventually locked again and replacing the battery didn't fix it. Had to replace the ESL motor.
Hi , i have a 2006 Mercedes B200, 3 days ago i opened the fuse cover to review if a fuse are open due to the wippers are not working... i'm testex all the fuses with a multimeter and i pulled out a couple to test if are good..... all of them are good, but know the car is not working.... the dashboard on, radio, windows powers, but the starter is not activating.... the key open the switch and I move the knob to neutral and nothing..... literal i didn't do noting to damage the car and is not working.... what I can do to find the problem... a technitian scann the car and it said somethink like ... the car is registering a manual transmision instead of an automatic transmision.... any help will be highli appreciated

Hello. I like your style of explaining. Do you have a video of Start Error alert for ML350 2003? The key does what you said it unlocks doors and accessories are ok but it will crank and start for maybe two seconds and then immediately shut down with the “start error alert”. It’s been frigid temps here in CT. I have checked the battery which at gives me 12 volts. If I have a regular multi meter, how do I check with load? Can i move key to accessory position and then check again for voltage drop or is that not considered load? I really appreciate any help The car sits sometimes for a week or two because I drive my truck to work but it’s never been an issue until recent. The model key type is like the switch blade and I understand maybe a transponder issue. I’m a furnace guy not car mechanic however I have some understanding except German engineering is exceptionally complicated. Thanks
So does this go for C230 as well? I have a 2006 and it seems to be doing everything that you mention as far as putting in the key turning but you have no crank. And the battery has been replaced.
After checking all of that could be crankshaft positing sensor bad it's located between the engine and transmission for the do it yourself it will give a code most time po335

Folks, when you turn the key, and the engine starts to turn over, then stops, it could be as simple as corrosion on the connectors in the electronic ignition switch module. just remove the EIS and disassemble and clean all the contacts and reassemble.
David Jacobs when I put my key in and turn it doesn’t even crank. The battery is good for sure it’s been tested and the radio and everything else works fine.

My ML320 occasionally (usually at the worst time) won't start. I've studied, checked components, still no definite diagnosis. I think its the starter. Even if the battery shows 12.6 volts a 10 minute jump fires it up. Battery is good. New key helped in the past. Also dealing with transmission leak. Learned a lot about that one, including a diy transmission dipstick...
My car was locked for about a month, I went out to start the repair this weekend, reached over and opened the passenger side door because I was hot and suddenly the car came alive and steering unlocked ...It has started every-time since this happened...I have no idea what happened and will probably get rid of this car because not sure when this may happen again.
That's the problem with newer Mercedes. The company unnecessarily made it complicated so that the owner will simple sell it if problems like this begins!!!
They're german. Everything is unnecessarily complicated, but it somehow works. I had an old brit teacher in med school who told us to "stop being german" when we tried to find complicated solutions for simple problems.
I have a w211 e320 cdi The car was in to get new discs pads and brake lines replaced. The car was running fine but now my mechanic says it’s bringing up an error code (P1630) can you please help me thank you. P.s the car goes to crank but just stops. The battery is good and the starter is good. Would it be a fuse problem?
Aislinn Moloney it sounds like some kind of drive authorization issue, very hard to guess without diag, start with new key or if you have spare key try that first.
Hello I have a 2010 c300. I cant get it to start. I turn the key and nothing. The radio and lights come on. But it won't start. I cant shift the gear out of park either. When i place my key in the ignition the dash says, remove key from ignition. I tried both of my keys and same thing. Battery is also good. Thoughts?
Cat allack steering lock, do you hear the steering lock retract when you put key in? Is steering wheel locked when you try to wiggle it from side to side when key is out of the ignition ? The C300 has a common problem of the steering lock stop working and since it’s part of the drive authorization it will not let you start the car when it’s faulty. About $1,000 give or take, TRP do only authorized shops can replace and programmed. Good luck

Hi, I have a question. I have a 2011 GL450. Car had no prior issues. Twice now it has not opened or started. The first time my husband took it to the mechanic and he changed the battery. Fast forward two months, and we have the same issue. We tried the key fob, it still did not turn the car on. We replaced the battery, etc. Took it back to the mechanic and he checked and said battery is fine, starter is fine, says nothing is wrong with it? What else can it be? Why is this happening?
How you doing? I have a 2007 s550 that sat for a long time Batterys died and would not start. We changed the Batterys still would not start. Changed the starter started for one day. All lights come on no codes come up. Not cranking at all. My mechanic put the key in the on position and jumped the starter and car ran fine but when I turn key off won’t start. My 2013 c300 was taking a few tries to start but it would start. Couple days ago it happened again but there was no noise when I inserted the key. Car seemed dead. Waited few minutes and it started. This morning I shook the steering wheel before inserting the key and it started right away. When I left work I turned the key, but didn't move the steering wheel, it didn't Start. Repeated the process this time including moving the steering wheel and it started. Stopped at store, left the car , came back, moved the steering wheel , inserted the key and it started right away. Thanks man!!!! But one question. Why is this happening?
Helpful video 👍 I have an issue with a 2012 GLK350. The battery and alternator were tested and are working as expected, but engine will not turn over. I can hear the clicking noise when attempting to start the car but it will not turn over. It's the same with a jump from another battery. This statement a couple months ago. Sometimes it will work after 5 for 6 attempts. Does this seem to be a starter issue?
@@MercedesBenzTechs Thank you. The battery terminal connections are secure. This problem exists even when attempting to start the engine with the good battery and jumper cables. Can this be due to a faulty starter relay?

HI I have 2004 e500 with no crank no start issue, from time to time it would not crank or start, after turning the key few times it would start, been driving it for almost a year like that . now all of a sudden no crank no start for 5 days, checked all the fuses relays. had the starter replaced abut 7 months ago and the very next day no start no crank. could there be anything else other then fuse and relay.

I just bought a used c200 series estate car with 29.00 on the clock when using the eco system sometimes at lights it won't start and I am not used to the car but have to put on warning lights and try everything I can think of inc removing the keys eventually and then it starts but it takes a few very annoying minutes with people behind getting very annoyed what is this once yesterday and once today. my son says damned eco system what do you think? Hi there! I have a 2014 e63-S and it started having random issues not starting. I’d go out for dinner, go out to the parking lot and car won’t start. But I just drove it, battery is good, key is good. When I try to start it’s like when I push the button it isn’t recognizing that my foot is on the brake. Even when I remove the button and use the physical key the car doesn’t turn over or even try. Like it’s not recognizing I’m trying to start it. Happened to me last week and after trying like 20 times it just randomly started fine. Happened a few more times, and now it won’t start at all no matter how many times I try. I’ve spent hours. Battery is fine, full power, key fob fine etc. I was told maybe brake light switch to cause it to stop from starting. Any ideas? Key turns, the car just doesn’t even try to start. It just goes to position 2 and when I turn it, it turns but nothing happens to the car.
Thanks for the good information, but it the trouble shooting didn't include mine . I just replaced the auxiliary small battery on my 2006, e350 Mercedes-Benz. When I tried to start the car, there no light on dashboard. Therefore the key doesn't go in and the car doesn't start. Can you please let me know what is going on? Thank you.
Hello: i have an ML320 year 1999 and it star but it will shut off after 10 second or so, I think is the anti-theft module that is going bad, because i can see the signals going off at random times during the day. I never had the key fob (remote) to turn it on or off.

I have a 1995 s320 W140 Mercedes lwb 3.2.. Car wont start after starting no problems the day before. Tried unlocking the doors to bypass the alarm ( no key fob on this car) now every once in awhile the lights flash. I have tried everything. I have a s550 2011 that died in my drive way..found out my starter died..I replaced the starter and battery...but still wont turn over..I did noticed my original key says remove key when inserted and turned to position 1. But my backup key when inserted doesnt say that when turned.. I do notice a click noise in the fuse box under the hood driver side.( not starter) I did test new starter before installing.. what could this be? I have a 2011 4matic c300 sport Mercedes Car cut off one day, started back within 20 minutes, Drove it for a whole day , the next day after car cut off completely. And wouldn’t start for days 4 days and after 4days it started back up Got the starter replaced, engine light came on for 02 sensor exhaust. Drove it for 12 hrs, car cut off, and now will not start . What do you think the problem may be ? Bad starter again? Or . The car will not turn over . Only lights come on, inside and when you lock the doors outside lights . No dash lights . Any idea why my front shocks on my w221 are still losing air when I turn the vehicle off? New compressor, new shocks, new solenoid, no leaks found on diagnostics.
Got to be from the shocks, they are connected directly to the valve block, change the nut on the air hose with a new one and change the seals on the valve block, under the assumption that it’s all brand new not used and of good quality.

Hi I recently disconnected the battery and changed the spark plugs on my 1998 c200 2.0L now it starts then stalls in 3 seconds then changed coils and plugs still same problem car was running perfect before any idea what has happened
ChadMcFly not familiar with the 2.0 liter engines but make sure you install the right spark plugs, reverse the process if needed and see if it makes a difference

Usually fuse 52 in your front Sam “start enable” is the fuse. Starter relay is the small rectangle type, usually consigned with a mark “S” underneath the relay (marked on the plug socket itself)

Hopefully it doesn’t happen again. Make sure when you come to a park, keep steering wheel straight so it doesn’t set back in the lock

The guy claims I need a new fuel pump at the cost of $1000 parts and labor ! Had it towed back to my apartment as I knew that was not the problem! Was able to get it star and run ! But unfortunately the repair shop had stollen parts from the car ! The break light switch and even the connector and harness are gone

My 2010 C220 wouldn't turn over despite the battery being fully charged. I tried the trick of moving the steering wheel as suggested in the video and the steering lock disengaged. The engine jumped into life when I turned the key. Thanks for the tip!

Thanks for the information. I have a 16 c300 that won’t start. However mine is recognizing it’s on park. I have many mechanics that looked at it and went through it even the local dealership. As a matter of fact the Mercedes dealership also requested a technician from Germany to look at it and with out any luck. I had to tow the vehicle out and still trying to find out what’s wrong.
I don’t understand why Mercedes can’t solve arising issues with their vehicles🙄 I seems to me they just Love whacking people with over charges!! That’s why I’m going back to Lexus!!

I have a 1999 C230 Kompressor, W202. The tip start worked intermittently, sometimes requiring several tries to start the car. I tried a number of things including new relay, new starter and solenoid, new fuse box, new battery and removing the key assembly to have it checked over with the keys. All to no avail. Finally a light dawned and I realized that it is an infrared key. I cleaned the tip of the key with glass cleaner and I wiped the inside of the ignition latch with q-tips. Problem resolved. Hope this helps.

How common are the Mercedes fuses to buy? Do auto parts stores such as Advanced Auto hv them on hand?
Also i hv a 2004 Ml350. Put in new starter, it turned over, lasted for a month that way, then wouldn't turn over again. I replaced it with another brand new starter and it wouldn't turn over. Lights on all the lights on the dash but just won't fire up won't even click.

all. The key fob seems to work fine with unlocking/locking of doors and with illumination lights showing up but only in the middle tachometer where mileage is located. So battery seems to be okay. Also I'm able turn the key in the Ignition all the way to the right but with no response whatsoever unfortunately. Any advice or solutions you may know of? Really appreciate it! 🙏🏾

I have a Gl450 sometimes it starts quickly and other times it takes several cranks to start (sometimes the cranks sound slow and sometimes good) but it always starts. The battery voltage goes down to 9 volts when starting, so I changed the battery. Same problem so I changed the starter with a refurbished one. And I still have the problem.

I have a c240 Mercedes 2001 model when fuel falls below half tank lets say to quarter the car stops when driving .It cranks but wont start. I open the fuel tank and there is enough fuel but wont start ,when I top it up with a little fuel it starts again .can some help.

Hi. Great channel. I have a e 270 cdi 2005 model. Battery is in the boot. The car was working fine. Parked it in the garage. Came back 2 weeks later. Battery was dead. Tried using good quality jumper cables. Car wouldn't start just made a clicking sound, I then took the battery to be charged, its carong power but car still doing the same thing and on the dash it says battery protection mode disabled. @@cease19811 I've heard from some that replacing the battery was a temporary fix. Eventually their steering locked and had to get fixed. In my case my steering eventually locked again and replacing the battery didn't fix it. Had to replace the ESL motor.

Hi , i have a 2006 Mercedes B200, 3 days ago i opened the fuse cover to review if a fuse are open due to the wippers are not working... i'm testex all the fuses with a multimeter and i pulled out a couple to test if are good..... all of them are good, but know the car is not working.... the dashboard on, radio, windows powers, but the starter is not activating.... the key open the switch and I move the knob to neutral and nothing..... literal i didn't do noting to damage the car and is not working.... what I can do to find the problem... a technitian scann the car and it said somethink like ... the car is registering a manual transmision instead of an automatic transmision.... any help will be highli appreciated

Starter is on the back of the engine on the passenger side about half way down, you will have to get to it from the bottom of the car.

Hello. I like your style of explaining. Do you have a video of Start Error alert for ML350 2003? The key does what you said it unlocks doors and accessories are ok but it will crank and start for maybe two seconds and then immediately shut down with the “start error alert”. It’s been frigid temps here in CT. I have checked the battery which at gives me 12 volts. If I have a regular multi meter, how do I check with load? Can i move key to accessory position and then check again for voltage drop or is that not considered load? I really appreciate any help The car sits sometimes for a week or two because I drive my truck to work but it’s never been an issue until recent. The model key type is like the switch blade and I understand maybe a transponder issue. I’m a furnace guy not car mechanic however I have some understanding except German engineering is exceptionally complicated. Thanks

So does this go for C230 as well? I have a 2006 and it seems to be doing everything that you mention as far as putting in the key turning but you have no crank. And the battery has been replaced.
Check fuse 52. If it is blown replace and it should all fire up. If it keeps blowing upgrade to a 20amp fuse and that should solve the issue
After checking all of that could be crankshaft positing sensor bad it's located between the engine and transmission for the do it yourself it will give a code most time po335

Folks, when you turn the key, and the engine starts to turn over, then stops,
it could be as simple as corrosion on the connectors in the electronic ignition switch module.
just remove the EIS and disassemble and clean all the contacts and reassemble.
David Jacobs when I put my key in and turn it doesn’t even crank. The battery is good for sure it’s been tested and the radio and everything else works fine.

If the wheel is locked, try push the shifter forward then try to turn wheel. Works for my ML320
My ML320 occasionally (usually at the worst time) won't start. I've studied, checked components, still no definite diagnosis. I think its the starter. Even if the battery shows 12.6 volts a 10 minute jump fires it up. Battery is good. New key helped in the past. Also dealing with transmission leak. Learned a lot about that one, including a diy transmission dipstick...

My car was locked for about a month, I went out to start the repair this weekend, reached over and opened the passenger side door because I was hot and suddenly the car came alive and steering unlocked ...It has started every-time since this happened...I have no idea what happened and will probably get rid of this car because not sure when this may happen again.

They're german. Everything is unnecessarily complicated, but it somehow works. I had an old brit teacher in med school who told us to "stop being german" when we tried to find complicated solutions for simple problems.

Aislinn Moloney it sounds like some kind of drive authorization issue, very hard to guess without diag, start with new key or if you have spare key try that first.

I cant shift the gear out of park either.

Cat allack steering lock, do you hear the steering lock retract when you put key in? Is steering wheel locked when you try to wiggle it from side to side when key is out of the ignition ? The C300 has a common problem of the steering lock stop working and since it’s part of the drive authorization it will not let you start the car when it’s faulty. About $1,000 give or take, TRP do only authorized shops can replace and programmed. Good luck

I detached the connector from the battery source and it reseted the whole system and it turned on afterward, you can try this also.

Hi, I have a question. I have a 2011 GL450. Car had no prior issues. Twice now it has not opened or started. The first time my husband took it to the mechanic and he changed the battery. Fast forward two months, and we have the same issue. We tried the key fob, it still did not turn the car on. We replaced the battery, etc. Took it back to the mechanic and he checked and said battery is fine, starter is fine, says nothing is wrong with it? What else can it be? Why is this happening?

All lights come on no codes come up. Not cranking at all. My mechanic put the key in the on position and jumped the starter and car ran fine but when I turn key off won’t start. Any battery charger is fine, the front battery is for your SBC the battery on the back is your main battery.
My 2013 c300 was taking a few tries to start but it would start. Couple days ago it happened again but there was no noise when I inserted the key. Car seemed dead. Waited few minutes and it started. This morning I shook the steering wheel before inserting the key and it started right away. When I left work I turned the key, but didn't move the steering wheel, it didn't Start. Repeated the process this time including moving the steering wheel and it started. Stopped at store, left the car , came back, moved the steering wheel , inserted the key and it started right away. Thanks man!!!!

I have an issue with a 2012 GLK350. The battery and alternator were tested and are working as expected, but engine will not turn over. I can hear the clicking noise when attempting to start the car but it will not turn over. It's the same with a jump from another battery.
This statement a couple months ago. Sometimes it will work after 5 for 6 attempts. Does this seem to be a starter issue?
Can be a starter but can also be a loose contact, check the terminals on the battery, make sure they are tight..

Thank you. The battery terminal connections are secure. This problem exists even when attempting to start the engine with the good battery and jumper cables.

I just bought a used c200 series estate car with 29.00 on the clock when using the eco system sometimes at lights it won't start and I am not used to the car but have to put on warning lights and try everything I can think of inc removing the keys eventually and then it starts but it takes a few very annoying minutes with people behind getting very annoyed what is this once yesterday and once today. my son says damned eco system what do you think? Hi there! I have a 2014 e63-S and it started having random issues not starting. I’d go out for dinner, go out to the parking lot and car won’t start. But I just drove it, battery is good, key is good. When I try to start it’s like when I push the button it isn’t recognizing that my foot is on the brake. Even when I remove the button and use the physical key the car doesn’t turn over or even try. Like it’s not recognizing I’m trying to start it. Happened to me last week and after trying like 20 times it just randomly started fine. Happened a few more times, and now it won’t start at all no matter how many times I try. I’ve spent hours. Battery is fine, full power, key fob fine etc. I was told maybe brake light switch to cause it to stop from starting. Any ideas? Key turns, the car just doesn’t even try to start. It just goes to position 2 and when I turn it, it turns but nothing happens to the car.

Hello: i have an ML320 year 1999 and it star but it will shut off after 10 second or so, I think is the anti-theft module that is going bad, because i can see the signals going off at random times during the day. I never had the key fob (remote) to turn it on or off.

Got to be from the shocks, they are connected directly to the valve block, change the nut on the air hose with a new one and change the seals on the valve block, under the assumption that it’s all brand new not used and of good quality.

hello friend i have the problem of my 270ml cdi 2004 cranking about 2 seconds and it stops without starting 5 to 7 times without starting i have changed the starter motor and changed the ignition antenna i have checked all the fuse boxes i have found All are going well I have changed the battery and without news but when I connect it with cables with another car working it starts directly. now I do not have to think about any reley that is main! do you know if he has any ??? please help ...
Hi I recently disconnected the battery and changed the spark plugs on my 1998 c200 2.0L now it starts then stalls in 3 seconds then changed coils and plugs still same problem car was running perfect before any idea what has happened
ChadMcFly not familiar with the 2.0 liter engines but make sure you install the right spark plugs, reverse the process if needed and see if it makes a difference
I’m having similar problem, I have taken my to Mercedes Benzs. They have replaced ESM(ISM), battery, new key, new fuss box. But the car still not starting. Pls assist me. Thanks!🙏🏽
Where on that fuse diagram does it show which is your starter relay? My just shows the relay, not lableled.
Usually fuse 52 in your front Sam “start enable” is the fuse. Starter relay is the small rectangle type, usually consigned with a mark “S” underneath the relay (marked on the plug socket itself)
