In the past, i was able to claim the VAT in the Global Blue Office in front of the Spanish Steps. I could then pack my goods in my suitcase. No hassle! Will try that again this afternoon
it only works if u buy in certain stores (expensive ones). I bought some things at doppelgänger, salmoiraghi vigano, longchamp and the guy at piazza spagna did not let me finish the process there. He told me it had to be done in the airport.
Thank you for this, very helpful. So first get boarding pass ( presume that’s proof goods are leaving Europe) second go to Customs with paperwork for inspection and stamp (probably electronic) and then to Global Blue with everything and they process it. Got it 🤞
Once you get you boarding pass, go right to the VAT refund office, don't go through security customs. The VAT refund is in the check-in hall. That was my experience.
This video is awesome!! I love how you pointed out the signage and where to find the VAT counter... it's like VAT Refund for Dummies LOL. We have some purchases where the store provided us with the Global paperwork and then we have purchases where the vendor could not provide us with anything other than a sales receipt. Can we show up to the VAT office with sales receipts and expect to get a refund?
Rome FCO airport was not easy for us. The agents barely knew English and folks were being send back and forth to between Customs and Global Blue or Planet Tax Free. It was a chaos for many people. No one knew what to do. The process was so not streamlined. Line were huge. We got to the airport 3 hours before departure and got to the gate only 5 mins before gate was closed. The entire process was a nightmare.
In theory they could. My experience was they just wanted to see one or two items just to verify. But you definitely need to bring all your luggage over there in case they do demand it because they can.
I can't speak for the GlobalBlue company, but I think they just want to see you actually purchased the item and have it. Please refer to their official documentation.
My wife bought a bag and the shop gave her a refund already. However we need to stamp her passport at a Kiosk before leaving on Sept 23. The shop said it is in area 210 of T3 at Rome airport. Is this the right place to scan or stamp a passport? We bought a bag from Global Blue.
hi...thank you for the video. We were in Naples Airport and proceeded to the VAT office area. The gentleman behind the screen took all necessary paperwork, looked something up in the computer and then said. OK, you are ok. That was it. The sign posted in front of the screen is "our stamp will be done electronically only"...He gave all the paperwork back to us and sent us on our way without any paperwork from the VAT office . My question is, I have no idea how to follow up. When will we seen the refund in our credit card?
Did you put your paperwork in the Global Blue mailbox after the electronic customs stamp given? My understanding is that it has to be dropped off in the global blue mailbox
You have to do your VAT refund on departure. Make sure not to put your items into checked luggage before going to the window - they can ask to see the items and if you check the items in with your luggage, they can deny your claim.
@@ALinsdau thank you so much for informations. I will be going back and forth to France before leaving Italy permanently. I was wondering if I could get my tax free payment before my flight to France. Thank you for your time.
My entry point to Europe is via Lyon France. I bought some items in Lyon then headed to Geneva Switzerland via the train. I will be exiting through the Geneva airport, can I do the tax refund in Geneva Airport for items I bought in France? All these items has official receipt documentations fully filled up.

Let us know how it goes.

Thank you. What exactly needs to be filled out in the receipt?

Thank you. They provide an electronic transfer refund. No cash on the spot when I came through.
Very helpful, thank you 🙏
Thank you for watching!
Thanks buddy, very helpful!
Thanks for watching!
Is this the same terminal where United flies out of? Thank you.
It's the main international terminal, so probably.
Thanks for posting this!! My purchases are through Planet. Is the process identical to that? I’m flying out through Terminal 3
Should be similar. Let us know.

Sounds like it worked out if stressful.
Curious, What time was your flight? I'll be flying United.
With all due respect but why would they speak English? It is Italy. Do Customs in England speak Italian?
Great to know😊
Glad you liked it
Do they actually check every single the item purchased??
In theory they could. My experience was they just wanted to see one or two items just to verify. But you definitely need to bring all your luggage over there in case they do demand it because they can.
Can you please make a review video on the Cypress GWS 198 LZ sleeping bag
When I get my hands on one, I'll make a video.
Very helpful thank you
You're welcome!
What if i opened the sealed box of the item in order to test it (usually electronics). Will the customs reject the refund ?
I can't speak for the GlobalBlue company, but I think they just want to see you actually purchased the item and have it. Please refer to their official documentation.
How can I get my boarding pass without delivering my luggage during check in?
You can get your boarding pass, visit the VAT refund, then return to check in and drop your bags.
Do we need a Vat 79 form that was we request at purchase ?
Yes you need the forms from the stores.
Do you know what are their office hours? I google they are open at 9am.
Would have to check on their latest on the website.

They'll give you instructions, just don't check in the item before you get it processed.
What if I’m leaving from Civitavecchia port?
Not sure on that, sorry!
When did you eventually get your refund? Was it as expected?
It took a few weeks but it was as expected.

It could take a week up to a few months. Never know about those things. Best of luck and post here when it come through.
Hi did you ever get your refund back? I am still waiting for mine from August.
Did you put your paperwork in the Global Blue mailbox after the electronic customs stamp given? My understanding is that it has to be dropped off in the global blue mailbox
Thank you!
Welcome!
My flight is leaving to US at 8am and the office is closed. Wonder if it is another way i can get the refund? Can i do it the day before?
If you have your boarding pass, you could do it the day before.
I thought the customs office is open 24/7?
Hello, I have a question about tax free. Do I have to get it on the last day I leave Italy or can I get tax free any day I want before I go?
You have to do your VAT refund on departure. Make sure not to put your items into checked luggage before going to the window - they can ask to see the items and if you check the items in with your luggage, they can deny your claim.

Is it mandatory to not use the goods we buy before we claim the vat refund, say I cannot wear a shoe that I purchase
Not sure on that. I'd recommend checking with customs on the rules.
This is for visit visa only or not?
Just for refunding the VAT.
Is this terminal 1 or 3 ?
Terminal 1 if I'm not mistaken.

I don't think they do overborder - I would email them to be sure.
Can we get cash refund?
Not in my experience.
What terminal is this?
Main international terminal.
Could I get it in cash?
I've never been able to get cash, it's always paid later in my experience.
I’m still fighting for $700 euros. Buy as if you won’t get it back. Trust me it’s a crap shoot. Buy in the US. Don’t buy in EU if you can avoid it.
Yes, you're right on this.
