    Just to clear things up.
    Geographically - Western Asia (North Azerbaijan is technically a part of Europe though).
    Geopolitically, however - Europe.
    So yes, Judah is correct when he says a European conflict.

But still Azerbaijan have religious people, so citizens who love Islam they call themselves Asians, Easterns proud to be Muslim and hate West. Thank you for the video. I appreciate your work, but I think, that would be better if you would give more detailed information. I am from Kalbajar region of Azerbaijan which is under Armenian occupation and I want this conflict to be resolved as soon as possible.
    Some facts:
    - Nagorna Karabagh Autonomous Republic were the second richest Autonomous Republic in Soviet Era. Standard of living was one of the highest in the region.
    - Armenians living there were very close with their Azerbaijani neighbors. My family is from Karabagh and they still say that we didn't understand how this even happened. I am sure these kinds of feelings are present in Armenians as well.
    - Even through, population in Nagorna Karabagh was 90% Armenians, they have migrated there from different parts of the region and even they made a monument in 1978 in Aghdere (Mardaket) to memorize 150 year anniversary of their arrival to Karabagh (which were destroyed later). If Anyone wants to see this, they can just google it.
    In a nutshell, despite of all the horrible events that happened in the past, I hope Armenians and Azerbaijanis will solve this conflict and live together again. We are sick of this war. Peace should be restored and we can archive it by respecting the self determination of Armenians and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan Republic. My country is willing to ensure Armenians' right to self determination within the territory of Azerbaijan.

    February 1988. The pogrom took place during the early stages of the Karabakh movement. On February 27, 1988, mobs made up of ethnic Azerbaijanis formed into groups and attacked and killed Armenians on the streets and in their apartments; widespread looting and a general lack of concern from police officers allowed the situation to continue for three days.
    The Armenian civilian residents of Sumgait, including women and children, were slaughtered with exceptional brutality.

      And the leader of this action in Sumgait was Grigorian who was armenian and police officers were from Russian and they allowed.If you ask from any Armenian who lived in Sumgait 1988 , they absouletly will say that Azerbaijan Turks protected from violance. And I am saying the truth as a person Sumgait and as a person who I saw by my own eyes this action

If you check the map of Azerbaijan in 1918, you can see that karabakh was already part of Azerbaijan. Goris and Kapan were also part of Azerbaijan, but soviets gave goris and kapan to armenia.

      AugustanFinn AugustanFinn you can support whichever country you want, i can't say anything about it. But, i recommend you to research before commenting against one country. First of all Azerbaijan isn't part of Iran and never will be. Secondly Azerbaijan never stole land from anyone. Actually it is quite opposite. This area already belonged to Azerbaijan even before Stalin was born (you can check maps and Turkmenchay treatment from 1918 online). So, the argument that this land was given by USSR to Azerbaijan is false and i believe it is biased in the video deliberately. Even United Nation declared these acts as Armenian conquering by 4 resulitions. You can also check them.

    NowThis World, First of all, thank you for sharing a video about this conflict. It does not matter, if it is indeed Europe's conflict or not, this must be shared and spread all over the world since this conflict has already taken many young lives from both sides.
    Secondly, I would like to express my complaint about the content of this video. I think it is very biased and the man who watches this video can ask that if this area was "Armenian", why Azerbaijanis still claim to Nagorno-Karabakh? You even did not mention Azerbaijani arguments over this conflict both, historically and juridically based ones. Thanks for noticing the massacres took place during the war against Azerbaijani civilians and about 700000 refugees, however, you should mention 200-300 thousands of refugees from Armenia to Azerbaijan. You should research properly the core of the conflict 1918-1920 period when there were 2 independent republics, Armenia and Azerbaijan and they had the same territorial problems. They couldn't solve the problems, so it passed to the Soviet time of these republics.
    And actually, the core of the problem lies in the policy of the Russian Empire, where they tried to make these nations fight with each other to control them easily and right now we see the same situation with modern Russia.
    I am your subscriber for almost 2 years, and I really like your videos. However, you started to research very biased and make videos, based on these researches. Azerbaijan has really strong arguments over this conflict as Armenia does and it can be solved only with the help of some good compromises and ideas from both sides where these two nations can finally live in peace and harmony together. Maybe in the future, they can take the democratic way and European integration together and share some ideas and experiences. We wish and demand peace not war in our territories and all over the world.
    I like and respect your channel, but last videos are not good and you should change the style of your researches.
    Thank you for your attention!

    The conflict was before the Soviets. In 1905, the two had very bad communal violence, with saw each burning down over 100 villages of the other. There was also alot of bad blood during WW1, where each committed war crimes and killed 10s of thousands of civilians

      To begin with, the entire world recognizes the area as part of Azerbaijan. Secondly, there is absolutely no evidence of the alleged involvement of Isis in the conflict. At least before making speculations, Armenians should have researched that Azerbaijanis are Shia Muslims which are considered heretics by Isis.

    For the record, Artsakh or Nagorno-Karabakh had always belonged to Armenia, and had absolutely no relation with the azerbaijanis whatsoever. It was forcefully given to them, however, by the soviets, as mentioned in the video, meaning that it’s pure Armenian land. I stand with Armenians, they have suffered enough and have lost alot of land, and clearly have all rights to claim Karabakh as theirs.

    • @hasanism8614
      @hasanism8614 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It has been an Armenian region centuries ago, after collapse of ancient Armenia most of Armenians moved to the Middle East and haven't been in the Caucasus for a long time. Afterwards, it has long been Turkic-Muslim or Persian region, and yet again only Nagorno-Karabakh was inhabited by Armenians after Russia's Imperialist invasion on the Caucasus, surrounding regions of this enclave, which are bigger than enclave itself were mostly inhabited by Turkic-Muslim population. Killing thousands of civil people on both sides isn't the right solution.

      Hasan Ismayil I don't understand why Armenians always mention Stalin giving Karabakh territory to Azerbaijan SSR while back in 1918-1920 it was under control of Azerbaijan Democratic Republic. And by the way if they claim Nagorno-Karabakh, why occupying surrounding territories and killing many civilians brutually and causing to displacement of hundreds of thousands of people from their home.

    • @gameexpert2011
      @gameexpert2011 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The surrounding territories are buffer zones. Besides, how else will Armenia reach Nagorno Karabakh without crossing Azerbaijan? Just think about it. Nagorno Karabakh will be cut off from the rest off Armenia, and there's no way in going there unless you cross Azerbaijani border. I forgot, didn't one time Armenia and Azerbaijan want to trade land? If I'm not mistaken, I read somewhere that Azerbaijan was gonna give a road leading to Nagorno Karabakh and in return, wanted Armenia to give the Syunik region so that Nachivan connects to the rest of Azerbaijan.

    • @OrkhanHuseynli21
      @OrkhanHuseynli21 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Saying that Nagorno-Karabakh was "given" to Azerbaijan by Soviets is already a dead argument. Try to find out something new. Original document of that plenum where the conflict on Nagorno-Karabakh was being resolved by Soviets from 5th of July 1921, it was written that Nagorno-Karabakh has to be PRESERVED under Azerbaijan SSR 's jurisdiction. It means that before Soviets came, Nagorno-Karabakh was already considered as a part of the Azerbaijan Republic which was established in 1918. There is nothing about "giving" or "donating" in any documents. :) Do not make a propaganda, learn how to discuss!

    First, Kharabgh (Artsakh in Armenian) has been an Armenian historical and ethnic land for thousands of years, since before Christ. It has been a province of the Armenian Kingdom, under Artaxiad Dynasty and has had periods of self-rule and princedoms during the Middle Ages, through the 16th and 17th centuries, under Armenian noble families. Second, the only time when Armenians willingly organized and killed Azerbaijani civilians was during the March Days of 1918 in Baku, organized by the Communists, which their leader happens to be the Armenian Stepan Shahumyan, supported by the Dashnak Stepan Zorian, to avenge the victims of the Armenian genocide in the Ottoman Empire. As a matter of fact, after the declaration of independence of Azerbaijan in May 28 1918, the Ottoman Empire formed the Army of Islam, a troop to recapture Baku from the Communists of Stepan Shahumyan. Upon recapturing Baku in September 1918, the Turks and Azerbaijanis killed 10 000 Armenians in the city, to avenge the 12 000 massacre of Azebaijanis committed by Shahumyan and Zorian in March 1918. Aside from that, Armenians were continued to be killed, rubbed, raped tortured, humiliated daily everywhere, whether on the roads, in markets or public places. As a result around 20 000 to 30 000 Armenians have been killed in early 20th century (1918-20s-30s) by Azerbaijanis and Turks in modern day Azerbaijan. This has led Armenians to act in self-defense in the region of Kharabagh against Ottoman-Turkish troops in TransCaucasia (the Army of Islam, led by the brother of Enver Pasha-Ottoman Empire's Minister of War and one of the architects of the Armenian Genocide) as well as against Azerbaijani troops of Khosrov Bey Sultanov, supported by the British; and Kurdish gangs supported by the Azerbaijani Armed forces in 1918-20s. Simultaneously, there was the creation of the People's Government of Kharabagh later known as the Armenian National Council of Khrabagh in July 1918, which de facto established a self-ruled government in Kharabagh. It knew a year long of independance, after the troops of Khosrov Bey Sultanov invaded Kharabagh. When Azerbaijan fell into the Soviet Union, its Armed forces, alongside the Red Army, carried a full scale attack on Kharabgh's Armenian population in a deliberation of eradicating the Armenian population there. This resulted in the declaration of Armenians living in Khrabagh to express their will to join Armenia... the Republic of Armenia led by Dro and Garegin Njdeh formed armies to save Zangezur (Syunik in Armenian) and Kharabagh (Artsakh in Armenian) from Azerbaijani rule. On July 4, 1921, the Caucasian Bureau of the Russian Communist Party Central Committee decided during a plenary session that Kharabakh be joined with Armenia; however, on the next day, July 5, 1921, Stalin intervened and thus it was decided that Karabakh be set in Soviet Azerbaijan - this decision was taken without deliberation or vote. As a result, the Nagorno-Kharabakh Autonomous Oblast (NKAO) was established within the Azerbaijan SSR in 1923. Most of the decisions on the transfer of the territories, and the establishment of new autonomous entities, were made under pressure from Joseph Stalin. Then, under 65 years of Azerbaijani rule, Karabagh went under programs of de-Armenization, marginalization, discrimination and practically left-out from SSR Azerbaijan's domestic policies; only Azerbaijanis were granted any kind of support and this only to further marginalize the Armenian population. This is why the Armenian population dropped from 94% to 75% in Kharabagh in 1980. The same happened in the " Autonomous region of Nakhichevan", (an Azerbaijani enclave, which happens to be Autonomous, but without its native Armenian population to claim Autonomy; usually a region is autonomous because there is a native-minority population which differs from a majority population. This further proves that Nakhichevan also belongs to Armenia. In fact it was part of the Erivan Governorate as well as the First Armenian Republic, but was handed over to Azerbaijan alongside Kharabagh by Stalin's wish) where Armenians composed 40% of the total population of Nakhichevan, in 1917, but there were no more Armenians left in Nakhichevan as early as the 1960s, as a result of Azerbaijani SSR's discriminatory policies. Seeing what happened in Nakhichevan, Armenians in Kharabagh decided to resist, thus culminating in the Nagorno-Kharabagh war of 1990.

I count those 2 as European countries, technically in Asia. But I don't count the Azeris since their Turkic ancestors came from the Asian steppes. But, since they have territory on the northern side of the Caucasus, they are often included in Europe. They are a middle-eastern nation, slightly in Europe, same as Turkey.

      Georgia and Armenia are sometimes considered European despite being in Transcaucasia because they are Orthodox Christian. Chechnya and Dagestan are considered geographically European because they are in the north Caucasus but are strictly Islamic republics with lots of Turkic and Persian influences. They are not culturally European. These facts highlight the complexity of the region and the important role of religion in cultural identity as well as geopolitics.

    • @davidrosner6267
      @davidrosner6267 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      For Real, of course Bosnia and Albania are geographically European and they are leftovers from the period of the Ottoman rule in the Balkans and culturally and religiously isolated on the European continent. If there is another major outbreak of ethno-religious warfare in the Balkans, the battle lines will be drawn around those isolated pockets of Islamic civilization in southeastern Europe. Other Christian European nations, particularly Russia which has historically crusaded against Ottoman Turkey and sought to extend its influence in the Balkans, will support their coreligionists such as Greece, Serbia and Bulgaria in the Balkans while various Islamic nations from the Middle East such as Turkey or Egypt will support the Balkan muslims to whatever degree they are able. Of course, ethnic and religious identity is a pliable concept and doesn’t always follow clear geographic lines, especially in powder-keg regions like the Balkans and the Caucasus but in the human construct of identity Europe is most often associated with the western, Christian world while the Middle East is associated with the Islamic world and this affects the internal Balkan divisions in a significant way. The conflicts and alliances resulting from the way people chose to identify, even the continent stereotypes, are important in understanding the way future conflicts in the Balkans or Caucasus will unfold. Russia supporting the Christian states of the regions is the likely and logical continuation of the centuries old game. Although Serbia and Croatia fought each other in the multi sided mess that was the breakup of Yugoslavia, I wouldn’t rule out an alliance between the two and Russia in a future conflict as nationalism takes hold in eastern and Southern Europe and anti-Islamic sentiment rises. At the end of the day, despite their differences Croatia and Serbia have more in common with each other as Christian European nations than they do with Bosnia, Albania and Turkey despite sharing a language with the first of that latter bunch.
      Unfortunately, the terrible ethnic wars of the 1990s in the Balkans may not be the last in the region. A future conflict could spread to other parts of Eastern Europe, Russia, the Caucasus or even Western Europe as millions of refugees and immigrants from the Islamic world form ethnic enclaves in European cities. Unfortunately, due to the politics of religious, cultural and geographic identity, Europe’s bloodiest days may lie ahead.

      Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan are in the European Council, so yes, it is part of Europe.

      Being in the EC does not make you European. Just like Cyprus being part of EU and averything doesn't make it part of Europe. Azerbaijan and Georgia are partly in Europe. Armenia is entirely in Asia.

      I mean the european and asian borders are not well defined, some say europe ends with the ukrainian russian border, other say the ural mountains are and (some) say it ends with the borders of the EU. (Which makes barely any sense I might add.)

    “Massacre committed by Armenians that claim 500 lives most of them were peaceful civilians” that was pretty accusatory dude. You need to do Thorough research before you making statement like that.

      The soviets needed to divide and Conquer in order for Communism to survive. Without them continuing to spread Communism would have died in the USSR.
