It's so appropriate that all those wonderful bits and pieces went into candy jars- for crafters, art supply shopping really is like going nuts in a candy shop! One thing we've noticed over and over again with the most productive artists is that they take really good care of their supplies to reduce waste and spoilage. Over time, your collection grows, and you can budget for some "next tier" equipment and supplies! Thanks for the great suggestions!
i use the small containers from $ store so items are separate and even easier to use. The more organized I am the more I’m likely to use up the supplies.
I realized I have to stop shopping by “oh, that’s so cute” or “sparkle” or “pretty”. I need to do more purposeful and planned shopping. I just went through my little things and had a small bucket full of sequence. I never use them but they were pretty and shiny. 😂

They have a huge Dollar Tree in Monroe, LA. If you find one like that one, I swear they carry everything Dollar Tree has to offer. I've never found another in my travels. Wish they had more like that one. I can spend hours in it.
Oh Wow I live a few hours away. Have you seen Any in Shreveport Bossier? There are many stores. I used to go to them all. My closest hardly has much shown..🙏🕊🤗
STOP THE PRESSES!!! I’m so glad that I’m not the only one that feels those containers are PERFECTION!!! It’s how I store all of my projects now! One of them even has a vintage 6 muffin tin inside for die cuts 😂😂😂
I know you were trying to have everything from the & 🌳, but I wanted to mention that Everything Mary has little round boxes that come in a carry case as well. They carry a shallow size flat like a pill box & also a deeper one similar to a small prescription bottle. You can also utilize the weekly pillboxs from $ 🌳 for glitter & embellishments as well. These shut very securely & each day has its own section. One last tip, the flexible cutting mats can be helpful to get the sparkles & what-not into the smaller bags & containers. I need to work on the purging part of paring down my collection of crafting supplies great tips on that. 😊 💕
I love this video and will probably incorporate some of your ideas into my crafting space! I just wanted to let you know that those "stencil brushes" are for using paint through the stencils in an up and down pouncing motion usually on walls as a decoration. The wall stencils are usually much larger and have less detail, think 80"s interior decorating style 🤣 I use the makeup brushes with inks and paper crafting stencils in my junk journals and it works amazingly!!!
Great ideas, Mary! I’m working on redoing my organization in my craft room. We moved about a year and a half ago, right after my husband redid my old craft room, which was a dream space! I have new IKEA drawers and my counter top arrives today. I needed more ideas, and I admit, I need to purge! 🤗
Smiled when I saw your video, coffee in hand :). 4" of new snow on the mountain. Nice way to start my day. I found some little 2" tall glass jars with screw lids - tiny little guys at Dollar Tree. I use them for my tiny jewels, sparkles for shakers etc. They fit into my drawer. Upside down I can see what is in them. Glued a jewel on top of each jar lid to SEE the jewel inside. Got some that were 1" tall. Just started to use them for mixing up tiny batches of mica powder & arabic gum for painting with etc. I LOVE those tiny metalic "shapes" I have used them inside cards (for a fun surprise upon opening 😳🤣) and gluing on the front of card. Being flat they mail well. I tried the compartment boxes - didn't work well for me. I love the tiny glass jars. But, I also have a nice place to store them and can see them easily too. When I opened this drawer and my grand daughter saw all the SPARKLE in there, her little face just LIT up!! She has inherited some of her Grammy's "Crow" (even though her Grammy has become a full RAVEN!!) Oh, the JOY of grand babies!!
I also have multiple projects on the side and aconrainer is great PROVIDED you finish them , unlike me they can be there for months and become overwhelming🤪
I always loooove your craft & organization hacks! I recently searched one of our DT stores and wasn't very happy with their craft section, but we have at least 2 others in the area, so I'll keep looking! I have bought cheap micro fiber cloths before that weren't so great, but these look amazing! I'm also definitely going to pick up those cutting mats to use both full size and cut down to smaller ones! Perfect! I want to find those embellishments as well! Thanks for all the tips & tricks!
It was a very helpful video on tips for storage which I will try to incorporate. I need to say that your Dollar Tree store is a gem because I have several in my area (Long Island, NY) that are dismal in comparison to yours when it comes to crafting. Yes, there are some items but whoever does the ordering for where you shop must really like crafting. Thank you for sharing your wonderful tips and ideas.
I found the over the door adjustable width towel bar from Dollar Tree is great for holding tape rolls, although you do have to take it on and off at one end, but it hangs on my craft cart, and also in my window slot in the car when I am crafting in the car (as a passenger, of course, 😂).
I bet you could use a smaller container like that flatish one at 11:00 to put each project in. The paper, the ink, embellishments, twine, etc. Maybe not the bits you use on multiple projects but it'd help me in my extremely small space. Those flexible mats, you could also punch a couple of holes in the top and hang them when not in use. I swear, this hobby has two parts: Making things, and organizing things. Organization is its own hobby!
Great idea on the stencils, i need the brushes just to try out and I need to get a binder together for my stencils. I was wondering what to do with them.
Thanks for these many/varied storage tips. I'm about to get a RV (motorhome) and I'm planning to take my craft with me. I need better/smaller storage solutions. More square & flat shaped rather than round & tall shapes for storage. These ideas were fantastic and I will be implementing many of them.
I buy my craft supplies at thrift shops and rummage sales. I make crafts because making things is cheaper than therapy. Egg cartons make cheap drawer dividers, as do candy box inserts. Tina, Al's wife
Love your videos Mary. I have tried a few different embellishment containers and found this on Amazon which works well for me. Not as inexpensive (9.99 ), but keeps them contained and I can put in a little dish when using. This way I can see what I have and my pups aren’t wearing my embellishments that have escaped! ARTDOT Diamond Painting Storage Containers, Portable Bead Storage Organizer 64 Gird Diamond Painting Accessories (Storage Box)
I have found the cutting mats are great for adhesive, it rubs off easily and it is a good cutting mat. I love it, large enough I dont get off of it and cut something I dont want to . The mats are wonderful for all kinds of stuff
Some really interesting ideas. I’ve found that containers like that one you used for embellishments are great as long as the sections are permenant. If they are the sort where you can slide dividers in and out then things will fit underneath. It doesn’t matter how tightly you think they fit in, the embellies will find a way. Trust me on this😢 I’ve even tried glueing them in place. Good way to develop sequin mixes though i suppose. 😂 Anyway, thankyou for all this.
Hi. Thanks for sharing the heaps of tricks and tips. It was both funny and weird seeing you trying to decant your embellishments at the beginning. It was rather like watching an action replay of every time I put small items away! 😂
WOW! Where have you been all my short crafty life?! 😂 I love your video! This is great info & I can totally benefit from your tips! Thank you!!! New subscriber! 😊
Boy howdy, this is going to help! Hi Mary. I love your videos. My space is my living room. I have all kinds of things crammed against the back of my couch, and containers and containers all stacking up on the floor space. I don't have shelves really, in my apartment, so it's kinda hard finding a place for everything. This is really great. And yah, see through containers are the best! Those cutting pads look really great. Thanks!
I started with a corner in my house and loved that space as much as I love this new room. I'm so glad you feel the same. It's about me escaping, and I can do that in a closet. lol
Oh yes! I had some laughing going on at the beginning of the video watching your unsuccessful pours from one bag to another!!!!!!!!!!! I just bought those three containers that you used for embossing powder with the same idea in mind. Thanks for the video and the laughs.
I Do! I use this one: shrsl.com/4c0ng There are some cheaper ones on this site too: shrsl.com/4c0nh If that's the right item for you and you shop there today, they are giving away THREE freebies so please make sure you add them to your cart.
Thank you for all the awesome tips. My Dollar Tree is lacking in their variety of merchandise. I think I need to make a trip to another area and check out their supplies. Thanks for the suggestions.
You can put swatches on shower hooks. I have a floss-holder system that uses shower hooks (accumulated on a large ring for holding belts that will hang on a closet rod).
I had some of those shower curtain loops and i use two with a dowel just sitting thru it clipped over my actual closet hanger rail and i put things like washi tape, ribbons and even rolls of jewelry chain i was using! To get what i needed i would just hold up an end if the dowel and slide the hook away and slide off the item i wanted and slide the hook back to hold the dowel again 😅 hope that makes sense? 🤣 Was less fun if it was something fm the center area but still not too bad, and lots of those kinds if things can also just be used straight off the dowel.. like u could cut a piece of ribbon the size u needed fm it without removing fm dowel ofc! 😁💕
I have a ton of ribbon. Spools are bulky and never seem to stay wound. I cut paper bobbins with my Cricut spent 2 days winding ribbon and tulle now they're in plastic containers with lids by width and color. I cut 3 sizes of bobbins for the different widths 6 inch tulle was the biggest. Major space savor. Some punch holes for hanging I have way too many to hang
Unfortunately at our $store in a small town in Canada, now starts at $4. I was astounded when I found this out today, that's double than a couple of weeks ago. We don't have a lot of craft items in it, but storage items like the large locking one you showed, was $9. I wish I lived closer to the US
Hello Mary!! I want you to know that I appreciated this video! My husband and sons just put together a rolling 7 drawer cabinet for me and I’m thinking about what I’ll need to for storage. This video fit the bill for me. I just hope that my $ 🌳 gets some of these organization containers that I can use. I particularly liked the container that you put your projects in. I usually have a few projects going at the same time so that container will be perfect for me. I want to wish you a blessed and joyful New Year🌟💫⭐️!
Mary, another awesome video!! You know I am all about saving money!! I will have to go to my dollar tree and see if they have those items!! Hope you are doing well my friend!!
Oh my. forgot my favorite Dollar Tree find! I buy those sparkle gift bags. Cut them down and use them on cards - die cuts, layering. With the big bags can get 2 - 12x12 pieces and lots of small er ones for die cutting etc. (made gift tags with sparkle snowflakes from these this year). When I think of how much you spend on specialty papers at a craft store 😳🙄. This IS one of the BEST crafting buys at Dollar Tree!!
Good video. Thanks. I just want to tell you that you really want to use your black cutting mat if it is self healing. If it says it is, it is. I've had mine for 20 years ish and it looks as the day I bought it. Also you are correct about that other cutting mat. It will scar quickly
hi, i think we have the same dollar tree! 🥴 i see all this great crafting items on videos but i never see them at my dollar tree ☹️! thank you for this video, great ideas!
Storing the embellishments - I did it that way and it fell off my shelf and mixed and I had a mess. I bought a container that had individual bottles (either from Walmart or Joann's) and that way they are all together but in their own containers. :)
Great video, Mary. I need to do some purging, since I have stuff that I'm not using. No sense keeping it right? If it weren't for my cat, my craft table would be a hot mess. I had to laugh when you were dumping your tiny stuff into those envelopes. Sorry, but I couldn't help it. Will have to make a trip to the dollar store soon and get some of these organization items. Thank you so much!!!
Purging is SO important when organizing. There really is no sense in holding on to it. I just went through all my dies and am destashing a ton! Thanks so much for the comment!
I also bought those containers to keep my current project in. They are great because if I am using a card kit with a lot of die cuts it’s all in one container and my desk stays relatively clean in between.
I am looking to get some of those shower hooks to hang up sone of my stencils that I have that come in sets of over 12 - 40 pieces. They all have a hole in one corner and can be hung up. I haven’t been to the shops for a while and so I haven’t bought anything yet.
Great video! I use the same containers for my embossing powder too! The little stick-on clip that holds the spoon inside the lid is available at Dollar Tree also. They're white (mini version of command strip), come in a pack of 3 or 4. I haven't been able to find small spoons cheaply, so I adhered the clip on the front side of the container so I could use a regular plastic spoon and still be able to stack them. I'm going to check out the small compartment box you used for sequins to see if they will fit the blending domes. I want to put one in each section face down to keep from getting the ink on my hands when attaching to the wooden handle. If it works, I'll only need 5 containers for my Oxides, so that will be a cheap alternative to the stacking clear round jars. 🤞I can easily label the top of the container, so I'll know which color I'm grabbing. Many thanks for all the inspiration! Janet ❤
@@marypolancodesigns I have to make a correction (sorry). The mini version of command strips come in a packet of 6 for $1.25 (not 3 or 4). They're in the hardware aisle of Dollar Tree. And they come in white and in clear. I checked today to see if I could find the small compartment box you bought for sequins, but they were out of stock. I have 3 other stores in town to check so still hoping it will serve for blending dome storage. 🤞 Janet ❤
Wonderful ideas. I have a question I hope you'll answer. I bought the RPS labels that you suggested. Is there a secret to removing the back that covers the sticky part? I seem to struggle with that. Thank you ❤️

Same here, if I am organized and know where things go, I'm so much more apt to use it.

Great idea, I was thinking about trying something similar in my space. I love the idea of easily reachable things. Thank you!
@@marypolancodesigns 🥰🥰
Thanks for the great ideas!
It was my pleasure, you are most welcome!
Those bins you're using as project boxes are $5 at my DT. I use them to store my classroom supplies. Great organization tips. Thanks
Hmmm....did I pay $5? Now I don't even know. I'll have to check when I go back.
Love your videos!!!!!
Oh thank you so so much for this sweet comment!
Thanks for the tips!
You bet!
Such a clever idea; thank you so much for sharing this.
Unfortunately at our $store in a small town in Canada, now starts at $4. I was astounded when I found this out today, that's double than a couple of weeks ago. We don't have a lot of craft items in it, but storage items like the large locking one you showed, was $9. I wish I lived closer to the US
I'm sorry to hear that, such a bummer.
I'm so so grateful this was helpful! YAY! Thanks for taking the time to let me know.
Mary, another awesome video!! You know I am all about saving money!! I will have to go to my dollar tree and see if they have those items!! Hope you are doing well my friend!!
Thank you so much! I'm great, and I hope you are well too!
Oh my. forgot my favorite Dollar Tree find!
OH MY GOODNESS that's brilliant. I'm going to share that in an upcoming video; don't know when yet but I made a note.
Good video. Thanks. I just want to tell you that you really want to use your black cutting mat if it is self healing. If it says it is, it is. I've had mine for 20 years ish and it looks as the day I bought it. Also you are correct about that other cutting mat. It will scar quickly
Thanks so much for this feedback, I appreciate it!
hi, i think we have the same dollar tree! 🥴 i see all this great crafting items on videos but i never see them at my dollar tree ☹️! thank you for this video, great ideas!
Thank you so much! I'm glad this was helpful and fun!
Hello everyone
Hiyyyeeee
Storing the embellishments - I did it that way and it fell off my shelf and mixed and I had a mess. I bought a container that had individual bottles (either from Walmart or Joann's) and that way they are all together but in their own containers. :)
YIKES...yes that would make a mess for sure. lol
Great idea to using shower hooks for washi or ribbon. Thank you!
Thanks so much; I appreciate that!
To pour things into a bag, use a funnel. If you don't have one, make one out of paper rolling it to the size you need.
YES...I needed this then. haha I was a mess
Great ideas❤
Thank you! 😊
I also bought those containers to keep my current project in. They are great because if I am using a card kit with a lot of die cuts it’s all in one container and my desk stays relatively clean in between.
YES, it made my whole day after I contained the mess. lol
I am looking to get some of those shower hooks to hang up sone of my stencils that I have that come in sets of over 12 - 40 pieces. They all have a hole in one corner and can be hung up. I haven’t been to the shops for a while and so I haven’t bought anything yet.
THis is an older video but I'm sure some of the items are still there.
Janet ❤
Oooh so many great ideas here; thank you so so much for sharing!
🤞 Janet ❤
i USE THE CUTTING MATTS FOR THE TOPS OF MY DIVIDERS AND LABEL THEM.
Brilliant!
Wonderful ideas. I have a question I hope you'll answer. I bought the RPS labels that you suggested. Is there a secret to removing the back that covers the sticky part? I seem to struggle with that. Thank you ❤️
You got the "removeable" type correct? If so, I'm not sure because I just pick at it until I get it loose! Lol
