I've always tried and successfully made larger cams sound a lot tamer. One for sleeper status, and two for driveability
I agree with you on opening up the exhaust flow. Also tail pipes will make a small cam sound better.

I feel that I just got my aod rebuilt locally. Luckily parts and install only cost me roughly 1500
The only bad thing is that I had to sell my 1989 FORD MUSTANG LX FASTBACK 4CYL EFI. Not that I wanted too. But I’m older and I wanted my Blazer to have a new EFI electronic feel injection system put on it new and updated so I get better fuel mileage and run better. And the bad thing is I miss my little Mustang I only got to drive it twice since I owned it. One thing about Ford mustang Fox body is a Ford motor company put the fuel pump relay underneath the center part of the dash up in the top. Hard as heck to get two to replace it. I hope everybody else finds out I read this before the hill and Jackson said some Cortana for the fuel pump relay. God bless you all one thing I still have a Ford Pinto‘s and Fox body Mustang’s right now both of them are worth a minute or worth a bar of gold. Including your Ford Maverick.

i have a microsquirt ecu'd EFI 331 stroker with a pretty mild cam that i built. I run a howards 219/219 @50 lift, 110 lobe sep, .578 lift with 1.7 rockers. Skip White 190cc aluminum heads with 1.6 & 2.02 valves. 30 lb injectors. Long tube headers, Flat top DSS pistons. Pulls from 2k to 6k very well. in an OBS 92 F-150 with 5 speed manual transmission. I love it. I think it needs slapper bars.
Once I buy a clean fox, I need to bring it to you and write you a check to bring it to what I hoped for in high school. A B cam, with a chop, and AC and power steering. My HS dream car.Thanks for putting the videos out. Helps us believe 👍

I have a bone stock 95 5.0 5 speed convertible that was my mom's that passed away and the OEM exhaust had a nice note just super quiet I cut the stock muffs off and threw some single chamber fauxmasters from ebay they actually are pretty nice anyway it has a decent growl at a 2000rpm sweet spot at half throttle but as the revs climb it looses it's growl. I don't dare to do a cat delete that's one thing Maine is picky about but I'm going to at least gut the further back 2 for now all at some point. I wanna do engine upgrades but doing research that lil efi 302 takes a lot of mods to make any real power. Seems the cheapest way to get decent power is a budget turbo system... then pick away at mods like a cam intake n heads. I'm a long time Chevy guy so these little EFI 5.0s are new to me.

I know I’m late to this but mid pipes make a big difference if you remove the h or x pipe dumped before the axle it makes a huge difference

This will work with the Box Body Panthers with the 5.0l HO swaps as well....Probably even the F150's and whatever else had the same EFI setup as the Fox body's did.

I'm running a Lunati #50514 street/strip cam. Not too many ppl talk about these cams. Also have shortys, off road h pipe, into Flowmaster 40's. Could be more happier with sound and performance. 🔥 Great content keep up the good work!

Got a 10:1 331 with XE270hr cam with some aluminum china heads. Tuned on mega squirt and with a magnaflow straight through muffler it doesn’t chop it actually idles pretty steady at 900 rpm. Sounds deep but doesn’t chop unless you get the AFR pig rich like 11:1 but I run usually at 13.5-13.8 AFR. I also run my timing around 18 degrees idle

The truck in my orofile pic aports a 460/5 speed .. it has a small cam it has a choppy idle but it can be used with a stock converter so its not too radical but none the less choppy … when it warms up it smooths out a lil bit ..i have a 750 holley carb on it … im always experimenting like you are so i have a 850 proform carb and put it on .. when i got itball adjusted in it sounded like a nascar or a latemodel dirt track car but when i drove it it wasnt hard to tell it lost power and had trouble handling all that fuel … i live in new tazewell Tn home of the tazewell speedway ( roundy round dirt track) and one of my buddies who race there told me it introduced way more fuel into the cylinders and it made more compression and made the cam sound more radical … if im thinking right that leads me to believe i could keep the 750 on it n take the stock dish pistons out and add compression and the cam would hit way harder … the way i see it compression is compression wether your adding more fuel in the cylinders or more piston in the cylinder … im welcoming ppls input im up for a free education this is how i learn !!!
There is something to it, and that thing is Timing. The EEC primarily uses the timing to control the idle, and then adjusts the IAV duty cycle.
By turning the throttle stop and opening the throttle blade, you force the EEC to adjust the ignition timing, and a little duty cycle, as it tries to get back to the target RPM.
Pull the spout and the sound should change if you want to experiment.

FWIW stock headers will make a cam chop a little harder. Bigger primaries will tone down the snap/pop of a mild cam.
Had a old block laying around my my first mustang 92 gt it was 60 over Holley street dominator intake 519/523 lift 230/236 c4 reverse manual valve body 373 gears never got to see its potential bc the fuel regulator was reading 6.5 to 7lbs but the gauge was actually way off was getting 20 lbs an fowling the plugs out almost instantly an filling the combustion chamber with gas . Sold the car an put that engine in a 89f250 4wd 5speed with factory fuel injection that motor woke up a ton held together over 3 years never rebuilt or touched in the bottom end. I'd think running right it would have cracked into the high 12s In the 92gt
Want to know how to smooth out the lope? Run a lot of timing advance at idle! Want more chop, run less idle timing! Easy peasy!

Hmmm 89 5.0 HO I did not have to do all that to make mine sound like a race car and hit hard. Stock motor timing gear set long tube headers that’s it no exhaust. Roughly 10 degrees. Car will snap your neck. Stock rear end and automatic tranny too did a cold start for a kid that has a super snake mustang he was very impressed on how it ran and throttle response. And keep your throttle body clean it helps tremendously

I don’t have a computer to play with, but my heads flow 250 @ .500, 😢, 1-5/8” short/mid length headers, dual plane with 1” open spacer, 4200 lb bronco on 35s with limited slip front / rear, 3.73 gears, granny low 4 speed, it’s fun, pulls good, great for halling ass while rowing gears, great on fwy, great off road, front end lifts up a bit on hard launch
Man I could have hooked him up with a nice little cam, I just so happened to have went with a little rowdier sounding cam because I have carb and I have a spare XE282HR cam laying around the bigger brother to the cam in your car, I decided to go with a cam with a 110lsa because it is a carbed setup on my 347 but it only has 5mins of run time on it, I can't stop upgrading the upgrades 🤣😂

Timing is set. Tried all of this. Megasquirt makes it idle at atleast 1000. Auto tune works good but can't get the car to sound like that! And I have a built block and mild cam
When you adjust the throttle screw always unplug the tps sensor!! Remember a base idle reset is nothing more than setting the mechanical idle of the engine. Which means you unplug everything that could control idle. Like the iac, tps and spout. Those three things control idle. With all of those things out of the picture you set the idle screw to where the engine is barely idling on its own. Typically around 400-500rpm depending on camshaft. Shut the car off and plug everything back in and you're done.
@@edreynolds8721 if you ever dive into tuning you'll see why the .98v is a myth. Matthew leech has a really good video about setting the tps voltage. He shows in the tuning software where the voltage range for tps is very broad. The .98v is a good compromise but not necessary. Brew2l even mentions this in some of his videos. I'm just trying to make it easier for people to do the idle reset. I love brew2l videos on this stuff. He breaks it down for us laymens.
@@edreynolds8721 the reason you shouldn't turn the screw with the tps plugged in is because the ecu will try to counter what your doing because it thinks the engine is revving.
Headers....2.5"-3" off road H-pipe....2.5"-3" mufflers of your choice....great sound.
Could you make a series on fully revamping a fox and the options on making decent power? Just overall rebuilding a car from the ground up. Unless you already have something similar? Recently have become addicted to these and my friend wants to sell a 91’ GT hatchback for 7K.
If you want to hear a really cool exhaust sound, set your timing 10 degress AFTER TDC. It is just for sound people, not telling you to drive your car this way.
I just put a Andsrson N412 in my 302 zspec t5 swap.. that little cam hits hard!!
sounds good love the sound of flowmasters. i run this cam XE270HR-14 with GT40 heads and intake. it has a little lope. the exhaust makes a big differences.

@@claytonstoolbox its a good cam i like it. it makes good power from 2500 to 5800 at my attitude. At lower attitude i can go to 6200. with the 114 lsa it kind of a sleeper cam.

I got a monster cam in my turbo 11:1 ls deal with 4ft of exhaust and it still idles smooth as shit. With modern efi you can make some monster cams idle unbelievably smooth.

Just the other day I wind up running into the back of my son's car with my 95 turbo Mustang I was trying to drive the car up onto the ramps and the moment my TPS past 2% my Holley Terminator X switched over to the IAC hold position and I have it set at 30% and the Decay rate was at 6 seconds totally forgot that I needed to lower it some. So just picture a car with the front tires on a tarp and the back tires on asphalt now I have to get a front bumper cover and headlight header panel but hey it could have been worse I don't have a crash bar on the front and I could have damaged my intercooler at least I know now my proportioning valve isn't working properly lol....
Sounds good. Don't care for Flowmasters. Paradox Performance Mufflers are the business, flow better than straight pipe. Sound awesome.

Plz need ur help I have a 1993 lx 5 0 vortex supercharged running and driving fine until I took off the manifold Plenum to do the gaskets on the valve covers put everything back did NGK cold spark plugs and wires didn’t change the gasket on the plenum Car is running like crap now popping exhaust misfire breaking up in hierarchy did a smoke test no vacuum leak what to do

Love the fox body mustang love them! I'd go about it a bit better and easier..ls swap it and put a better engine and much better Cam in it. Problems solved cause let's face it the 302 was ok in the big hair 80's early 90's but don't hold a candle in this day and time.

It sounds good having problems with mine on a cold start shes about 7 800 RPM but as soon as she gets hot she jumps up to 11 to 12 and then it fluctuates but I'm still trying to trouble shoot that

Not sure why that was said. Fairly common combo and a reletively small cam also. I've never had any problems with F303 cams yet.

@@BREW2LFOXBODY ford letter cams are cast from a steel core so you can do it . Don't try it on a roller from comp cams as they are cast core rollers.

I have a 96 roller block with a e303 cam, Holley 600 carb, performer intake, gt40 heads, high performance valve springs, shortys, h-pipe with no cats to mac mufflers & dump… it hits pretty good, but I was wondering if I could get more chop or tone out of it? Any suggestions?
Efi maybe, something like the sniper system since you've got the intake you do
1.7:1 rockers will give it a bit more. But the limit truly is the B cam
