The Rolling Stones are the greatest rock and roll band for a reason. This performance helps to explain the reasons why. Who else would even attempt this song live in front of a Texas crowd? That takes big balls, my friend!
The Stones were always very appreciative of what I call Roots Music (Country, Folk, Blues, etc.). So were many of their comtemporaries like Clapton, Skynyrd, Southern Rock in general, Joe Cocker, Townsend. etc. That's what makes great musicians. To appreciate all music. Today's so called "artists" don't do that. Thus, they lack emotion, feeling, heart, and soul. They pretty much just go through the motions. Care more about their physical appearance and "look" than the music itself. If they DO appreciate music before them it's usually 80s rap "artists" or 90s country or something newer like that.
The Stones have always been country fans. Mick always wanted to have a country hit. Country Honk and Girl With The Far Away Eyes is as close as they got.
I think they did an excellent job on this song. a great band that can cover just about anything. Ronnie does good job on pedal steel. Sounds a lot better than ANYTHING coming out of Nashville today. Long live Rolling Stones and the memory of Waylon and Bob.
No pedals on that rig. It's a vintage single neck Emmons. And yep, Ronnie did a nice job, and Keith was right there with him, hitting some very nice twangy licks.
You need to look harder at everything coming out of Nashville. Not just the big, glitzy talentless mainstream crap. Plenty of music coming out of Nashville WAY better than these ass clowns. Jagger can't touch ole Hoss. Not on his best day.
I'd never in my life would have thought I'd ever hear the rolling stones sing country music. However this is the best version I've heard since waylon himself.

When will the Stones cover a Billy Strings tune?
Never heard the Rolling Stones sing Country Before... Wow... Stunning... Naturals... Awesome! Sound Super Dooper Triple Good!
Freaking Awesome!!!!!
What a surpirse: the Rolling Stones playing a real country song, Ron Woods at pedal steel is great.
The Rolling Stones are the greatest rock and roll band for a reason.
This performance helps to explain the reasons why.
Who else would even attempt this song live in front of a Texas crowd?
That takes big balls, my friend!
and the Stones are still the Kings of Rock
I’m 68 yr old. Love the Stones.
Love to hear great artists respecting one another. Well done.
Me, too!
I read many years ago (don't remember who wrote it) that rock'n'roll is considered "the white man's blues".
Exactly!!!
Bob and Waylon shall 'Not Fade Away!'
Still listening..
In loving memory.Gordan Swift Hawk..
And I just love that they give a shout out to Waylon right in the beginning. Waylon was the best but I’m sure he’d be quite proud.
@@byronevans8278 You're right, but unfortunately crap from people like Taylor Swift is getting the airtime.
Thank you. Well said.
I'd never in my life would have thought I'd ever hear the rolling stones sing country music. However this is the best version I've heard since waylon himself.

Dead flowers ,girl with far away eye's very country very good 👍
Influenced by the late great Gram Parsons. (Hanging out with Keith & Mick probably led to poor old, young Gram’s early demise).
@@petergamma1801 wouldn't be a bit surprised
@@petergamma1801 well I'm shore Brian Jones would agree !
And they did it with much respect !
Waylon taught em well
It is nice to hear mick is singing a song from a country outlaw, try some Jerry Jeff next brother, Semper Fi and Erin go Braugh
Bragh
God, that was great.
I miss some people kind and of....sos.
I think Waylon wouldn't mind this. The Stones had a lot of stones to do this. Thumbs up.
Agree. Waylon was all about people should play the music they want to play not the music other people expect them to play.
When Sir Mick mentioned Waylon at 0:43, I swear a chill ran through me.
Sounded like you weren't the only one Maybe Ol' Waylon heard it too.
ksr9t Actually, Waylon died in 2002, and this was made in '05. I'm not being sarcastic. I really liked Waylon myself.
Gary Kerns I understood your comment. My point.. where ever Waylon is, I hoped he heard the applause when Mick said "Waylon Jennings" If I had a dime for every time I have listen to this song off "Waylon Live, I wouldn't need to go to work every day. LOL
me to man....damn!
@@TheBrooklynbodine This is actually from 1998. Waylon probably knew about this
Mick Jagger appreciates good country music ❤
Respect where respect is due
How are they the best rock band and then the best country band? Crazy. Bestest ever. GOAT.
Bob Wills is smiling down no doubt!
