Well IMHO The Rolling Stones' best Country song was 'Dead Flowers', then 'You got the silver'. I do love this song too. The best country song of all time is a big call. John Prine, Townes Van Zandt, Hank Williams and Guy Clark all do better country songs than The Rolling Stones. Townes also covered 'Dead Flowers' and features as the closing song on 'The Big Lebowski.'

Yeah but most of their songs is country infused bluesy type rock and roll between 68-74 (and a lot even to 81) and that is the country they do best. But the songs like Far Away Eyes and Honkey Tonk Woman (also the Country Honk version) are more tongue and cheek and not as good as the rest of their country infused rock and roll of the early 70s.

The melody might be country, but the lyrics are anything but country. More like a parody/piss-take of country.

@@agitatedmongoose I am not sure what the point is your trying to make?...but I actually I saw an old interview with Mick and Keith....They were in some other country, besides the US or Great Britain. They were talking about that they used to like to go there together way back in the early days....To write songs together. That place is where they wrote Honky Tonk women. Keith went on to say it started out as a country song and then the song quickly developed into a rock and roll song. So it was not " tongue in cheek at all. I've heard people say that about a lot of the songs on the Beatles White Album,,,,but thats not true at all for sure.

So grateful The Rolling Stones played this for me and my woman in Tampa 2021. We were magically handed pit tickets when picking up our "Lucky Dips." The Stones played all of their hits with high energy as usual. But the most memorable moment of the show was when they played "Far Away Eyes" per the fan vote. Ron Wood played his pedal steel and Mick recited the lyrics perfectly. The harmonies were beautiful! Keith participated while smiling the whole time. All of a sudden they transformed into a country band playing soothingly for Raymond James Stadium. Unforgettable few minutes for me.

The audio is normally recorded first in the studio and then months later they all mime for the video when the record company has decided which ones they want to release. So 'not being in sync' isn't sufficient justification for suspecting it isn't Ronnie Wood playing it. I'm pretty sure also Ronnie wood would have freely admitted if he didn't actually play that part, he's that kind of guy.

Can country get any better?? No.
The Stones understand American music better than any other British.. outsider lot.
They play Country, Blues, Rhythm and Blues, Rock'n'roll..with Funk, Disco, and even Jazz beats...all mixed into something, the lovers of great music call...The Stones music pinnacle ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
That's why we fell in Love with the Stones, from the first hearing in 1963.

Been listening the stones since i understood words and heard my dad tell me in the car that this is the greatest rock and roll band of all time. I was probably 6. So 1996. I saw them live at zilker park in austin in 2007. When i went to college i got the tongue tattoo spontaneously on my left shoulder when i was 19. Only tattoo i have. I love every stones song. Theyve gotten me through so many rough times. My favorite thing about them is the variety of genres and to be on point and perfect with every song. They have so many now that you can relate the lyrics of any song to your personal life no matter who you are. Far away eyes is a gem among all of the others. I love it. The keith Richards autobiography is also a must read. I read it twice and listened to the audiobook. Keep rocking and rolling boys!

This live song here is amazing. I never heard it before tonight, and it brought a tear to my eye seeing them this young, at the top of their game, and performing so incredibly well live. It was really crazy for me to see this. Steven Tyler tried to put out a country album that didn't work but Darius Rucker (Hootie from Hootie and the Blowfish) is doing better on the Country charts than in the Blowfish. Not that I'd ever have expected the stones to do a country song, I found it interesting that Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers backed Johnny Cash on one of his American Recordings Albums and did Tom's Southern Accents. His version of Hurt orig. done by Nine Inch Nails was killer! You just don't know what to expect by the great musicians I guess.

I'd listen to Hootie and the blowfish and hear a lot country in his soul. I listen to Darius and hear a lot of soul in his country. He grew up listening to country.. True story... As far as I'm concerned play and sing the hell out of whatever makes you happy and see what happens.

Always loved the Stones back in the early 70s. Loved their music more than the Beatles. Maybe because the Stones were more cool, original, artistic, and just plain sexy. Even at 13, I understood that.

Irony is the song is a b-side to miss you , a fantastic effort which also caught up with the American disco scene, then the pretty much parody of another level of American life, and the results were for everyone to hear, they were unrivalled.
