Welcome to My Little Tropical Farm. We are homesteading on this small finca (farm) in Panama. We tour the farm looking at all the produce and animals on the farm. -- Find us on Instagram: @MyLittleTropicalFarm
I have a farm in the US. Thinking of moving to Panama and do what you are doing! I have goats with a donkey LGA, several gardens and an attempted food forest. Love your videos. Thank you for sharing!
That is a great idea! I am still learning but I will do something on this. I think it will help me as well. I think in early November when I am planting beans I can talk about when to plant different items and all of the options. I think I mention something about this in my next video if my editor (my son) doesn't cut it out.
Hi Nanci, Looks great! I have two questions. How often do you run into snakes when out doing chores? I am terrified of them. Seeing you walk thru the grassy areas has me holding my breath til you get “back to safety”,lol. Also, when you talk about the animals and how you will cull the boys to one rooster/duck/sheep, doesn’t that cause inbreeding if that male then mates with his sisters/mother? Or is that not a concern with the animals? Is one of the new mama sheep the mother of the boy that got them all pregnant?
Good questions!! I don't see snakes often but try to keep the grass under control so they don't have many places to hide. It is a balance of keeping it long enough for the sheep but short enough to not be surprised by a snake. The last time I saw a venomous snake (fer de lance) it was in with the ducks and while I went to get help the male duck somehow chased it off. I have seen 1 coral snake, I fer de lance and a two boas (the snake that ate two of my chickens I thought was a fer de lance was actually a boa) - these are all dangerous but only the fer de lance is both venemous and agressive. And I have seen green vine snakes a few times - they are not dangerous. To answer your inbreeding question - it does matter in sheep but I believe it does not matter for the ducks or the chickens. Unfortunately, that means that none of my lambs can be used to breed and will all be used for meat unless I can find someone that wants a pet. Thanks for the questions!!
I will dig them up at the beginning of the dry season and into the dry season. Once the rainy season is over they will be as big as they will get and need to be dug up before the rains begin again. I don't think I explained that well. I am on well water.
Most of my fruit trees were here when I bought the property and some of the others were bought from the Santa Fe Vivero. I believe they have a location in Santa Fe and a location in Canto De Llano. If you are in David or Boquete area, I just took a class with Vivero La Huerta Panama from Alto Boquete and they are an organic vivero. I bought some items from them as well. I also grow from seed and want to try my hand at grafting in the future.
Thanks for sharing taking your tree down. 😮
Thank you for the tour ❤
Thanks for watching!
It’s cool to get a look at the whole farm in one vid!
Dom, you should come visit and see it in person! I am trying to talk your mom into visiting too!!
You have a good strategy as far as your layout and having different pastures to rotate the animals.
That might be interesting to hear more. Do you have a farm? In the US?

Also can you please do a video on when the growing season is in Panama, I can’t find anything online.

Are you on well water? I was curious why you dig the plants up when it's not raining season.

Where do you buy your trees from?
