Once again, I love your channel! Part old-school-hippie yet new-school, taking advantage of current technology. You two are so cute together! Just so heart-warming to see a couple so joined-at-the hip! A breath of fresh air! Love you two!
Thats why you start at 5:00 AM. It is also why they have siestas in Central and South America. Look into LUNAR ENERGY, which is like a solar collector but it is oriented to the NORTH and collects COLD. It is to run a FREEZER/REFRIGERATOR.
You need to have a rain proof shelter for your goats. Goats don't like the rain and they can get ammonia pretty easy. It's also good to have things for them to climb on. Old picnic table, large wooden spools ECT.
It would be a lot easier if you build several fenced lots or section of your property and then rotate the goats around to the different fenced lots/sections.
We had as many as 50 free tange chickens on our little 5 acre mostly wooded lot in Michigan and they hammered the ticks. In 6 years we didnt see one until we sold our chickens prior to moving. Just thought more chickens free ranging might help keep the ticks in check. Plus then you could sell or barter the extra eggs. Great work and keep it up! Thanks for sharing your homestead life with us.
Matt and Cass, Congrats on your endeavor to build out your own Homestead. I wanted to respond to your video from 10 months ago about your Amish shed the state wouldn't allow to be used as a dwelling. My background is residential architecture. You mentioned deconstructing it as a workaround. I'll preface this still as a gray area to be verified but if it was considered a remodel the ICC, International Code Council's Existing Building Code says if a remodel affects more than 50% of the structure its required to be brought up to current code. So, in that way it could be plausible to deconstruct 51% only and put it back together and be clear of the state regs. It's worth looking into. I've not dealt with TN codes ever so take it for what it's worth, check with a local Architect
You guys are so inspiring with every video I watch. I can't wait to start building my tiny home and then I'm going to run the same power setup from Bluetti that you cats have. I already have an idea on where to build my solar panel setup to which I'll be watching past videos of yours and, uhumm, borrowing some ideas. Most will never know the determination it takes to turn raw land into a homestead let alone all the work it entails. Love the videos, keep up the great work.🤜
Hey Justin, thanks so much for the support - hearing that we are actually inspiring others that are doing something similar to us is so awesome to hear...it lets us know that our videos have an impact beyond general entertainment. Best of luck with your build, I'm sure you'll crush it. Feel free to reach out for tips! It's hard to get to all of our messages so I apologize in advance if we don't see it BUT if you send a few, hopefully we'll see it. Cheers, friend!!!
Hi guys. I have seven Nigerian dwarf goats. They hate hate hate wind and getting wet. MAybe close in both sides and back of shelter so they feel safe. I hope you get secure tall fences so they dont get tangled if they spook. A livestock guardian puppy would be great for them. Having fun watching you set up. Great job.
Get yourselves a few bottles of the pump spray "Sawyer's Permethrin." Treat the clothing you work on the property with, as Directed. The treatment lasts for up to 6 clothes washings or 6-weeks of time...whichever comes first. Retreat as before. I treat all of my Backpacking / Fly fishing clothing with Permethrin, and am rarely if ever bothered by Ticks in the back country. Sawyers works GREAT !
if u can stand the noise u should get some guineys. they are tick eating machines and wont scratch the hell outta yer garden so there good at freeranging.
Yes we definitely plan to get them. We've heard some nightmares of getting them to roost in a coop but we are going to get around to getting them one day!
Talking about pumping water from your spring if it's got a down hill run you might be able to build a ram pump it doesn't use electricity it uses gravity feed to power it and run it back up hill to a tank that is elevated so when you run it back to your house the higher elevation of the water tank gives you water pressure or if you didn't want to do that you could use a pressure pump to pump from the tank back to your house, also you could build your own water filtration system using a large 55 gallon plastic barrel, there's videos on how to do it, you shouldn't have to change out the meteral for about a year or so. here's a TH-cam video on the ram pump if you're interested in it, also as y'all are doing using the rain water and let it go through the filtration system down to some tanks to collect the clean water you could also use heating elements to heat the water up a tad bit so it doesn't freeze using a off and on temperature switch also to keep your pipes from freezing what you can't run under ground you can use heat tape with a temperature switch that turns it on when the temperature is close to freezing and shuts off when it's warm enough not to freeze the pipes. th-cam.com/video/ohTLLl8qxVA/w-d-xo.htmlsi=tlIV0UCLQBML5x-z
A triangular plywood plate at the top, on each end of the pallet A-frame will hold it. Nothin' better than fresh, local meat! there's a meat packer about 4 miles from my house! 😋
I agree on the BLUETTI...if a person were to only get one unit, for general purpose home use, the AC180 would also be my choice, with perhaps one additional expansion battery. I recently took advantage of the Discount Code listed on your Channel...was looking for a unit to mainly bring along on drive-up camping trips. I spent considerable time trying to decide between the AC70 and the AC180 solar generators. I just had a few things to sometimes power at camp and would also be handy if having a power failure at home and need to power a couple of small appliances. I decided on the AC70 with an added B80 expansion battery, and the 200W solar panel.. Portability on the drive-up camping was a big factor...the AC70 is approx. 30-lbs and the AC180 is approx. 60-lbs. So far, my initial tests with the AC70 have been very good...happy with the choice.
I live about 70 miles north of you. Ticks aren't to bad this year but chiggers are horrific. You need to build a small smoke house so you can smoke your bacon and ham. Yummy
The ticks for us this year have been so much worse than last year! Lol chiggers have been pretty bad too. If I don't wash my legs off every night, I'm doomed hahah
@@RunawayMattCass we just learned granddaddy longlegs carry around chiggers on their legs. Next time you see them… look for little tiny red bugs getting a lift
I’d rather live in the city again before ever owning guineas again . Those things are loud and annoying and don’t really hunt ticks like people think .
Just a thought........... while the mullien and wild lettuce are close to peak in Tennessee, yall might wanna consider making some cold medicine for winter. You might have some on your property.
Goats dont like getting wet. More chickens free ranging will help w the ticks. Put them away before dark. Moving fence around is a pain why not just fence in different areas to rotate the animals?
There may be a better solution to the goat fence, but what you did is exactly what every farm I watch on YT does. If you had open pastures, you might not need to fold, but as you do not, seems like the way to do it -- to me, anyway.
You really need put tick repellent on. TN is one of the states that have Lone Star ticks which can cause Alph-Gal..i.e. Red Meat Allergy. I have it and go through cycles where I have to leave ALL mammal products out of the diet for months until my levels come down. If you eat red meat and 4-6 hours after eating you get itching, rash or worse immediately treat with Benadryl and be sure to have an Epipen on hand because it can cause anaphylactic reaction and you guys are a fair ways from medical care.
I don’t know if this idea is good or not but I have seen goats tied up to tires with a long enough rope attached to an old tire. May be worth trying? May be easier to move tires than fence.
gotten alot done, hard labor bless you two, are you both vets? i thought i heard that in one video of yours, my husband and i are also, and live right down the road from yall well kinda, not on the mountian, down in the valley. If you are vets are you aware of the VA clinic here in nooga?
We have them all around us but have never seen them come across what we consider our "main part" of property. We keep our birds and livestock close, most of the day there is two dogs roaming around and the goats are always in a charged fence (unless we are out and let them roam around). We plan to get a livestock guardian dog as we expand our heard.

My favorite Buffalonians at it again. Glad to see your using your goats smartly to feed and clear more land on your property.
We made separate fenced areas and rotated our horses to the different plots. Idk if that’s work for goats but it worked perfect for us
You need to have a rain proof shelter for your goats. Goats don't like the rain and they can get ammonia pretty easy. It's also good to have things for them to climb on. Old picnic table, large wooden spools ECT.

When I had a Hobby Farm (8 acres), I used the 3-point on the tractor to pull my fence posts. Makes it very easy!
Get a barrel, lay your fence on ground and roll up the fence on the barrel. Then you can roll to new area and install.
Welcome neighbors ❤❤

Nice to see both of your happy faces this week! Yay for the pork for the freezer! Try to stay cool in this brutal heat!
Ah thank you!!! The pork is incredible and luckily we had a break in the weather - it's been low 80s for the last few days!
19:13 it looks like you are recharging Stetson. 🤣
This is HILARIOUS! 🤣 It really does!
Y'all seem happier with ur goats around 😊👍💜✨
Don't forget fresh water for your ladies. Very important!!
God bless All of you on the new farm!!😉👍
Put alittle apple cider vinegar in each bowl of water, it helps digestion. You can add it to your own morning juice

Is your RV hooked up to a septic tank? Just curious how you deal with that.
