Barry, there's so much to this arrangement. When the soloist says you may say I'm a dreamer, the chorus calls him dreamer.. the same with no the only one. The card is passed to the next person displays what they share in common. A brotherhood of man just as that card is passed. The breakdown after Kirsten creates dissonance that crescendo as all their voices reach "one" in unison, reaffirms their unity. Five people so different singing as ONE. This is a masterpiece of intense intention in arrangement!
Awwww Barry - you touch my heart. I love the fact that you don't try to hide it when PTX gets you teary eyed. I shows that you allow them to touch your soul. Keep on doing what you do. Hugs!! I need to find a video of you singing.
Thank you Gaynor, I only have a few videos that I sing along with the act I’m reacting to. I did publish a full song on this channel, it’s just a rehearsal recording but it’s a live vocal, so it gives you a little hint of how I sound 👉th-cam.com/video/RSBIakgWWWU/w-d-xo.html There are also other little A Capella recordings on my second channel if you’d like to give them a listen. @@ItsmeBarry OH MY GOD!!!!! You have an amazing voice. You made me cry. There is a purity to your tone that simply blew me away. If anyone else is reading this, the link that Barry shared above is him singing. Well worth a listen. Thanks so much for sharing your voice with me Barry.
I love, when they pass the board around, the word they pass off is what they share in common with each other (Mitch and Scott being part of the LGBTQ+ community, Scott and Avi being men, Avi and Kevin being American, and Kevin and Kirstin being Christian. They have their differences and their similarities 💕💕
My reactions to Pentatonix are always the same as yours. Goosebumps, tears, joy. Im so glad I found them years ago. They always seem to heal my heart when I am troubled.
I am sitting in the doctors talking to a stranger from my town...we are both Pentaholics...what a special moment. Its great knowing that as I am doing the washing up listening to Pentatonix, he is under his car fixing the oil leak listening to Pentatonix, too. Love to you, Barry, from Australia.💜
Cannot listen to this song without getting chills, every time. And I think anyone who’s spent any time singing loses the battle to sing along with PTX, especially this song. Love seeing people get swept away by good music. Cheers, Barry.
I can't help but cry every time I watch this video... And I just watched it twice with you... I am an absolute mess. This is one of, if not the greatest music video that Pentatonix have released... and the message behind both the song and the video itself is just heartwarming. We are all just Human. Why can't we all get along?
I've always considered _Imagine_ to be a religious experience; in fact, we occasionally sing it in the church I attend. John Lennon wrote a perfect song with _Imagine,_ but even he could not have done *this* with his song. It required an a capella group to do this, and Pentatonix came through. Every time I watch this video I remember when we lost John, and I wish *so* much that he'd been able to hear and see this. He would have loved it.
I think that card was amazing, how the writing changed so fast. And of course their collective performance as always is phenomenal. 😍 And Thankyou Barry for the wonderful honesty of your reaction. :)
Barry the way you sing with them, you can really join them...the way Pentatonix can move not only you but a lot of us. Always ready to compliment them shows you are a true artist yourself. Pure soul you have Barry!!! Stay true to your reactions, We love you from your BB's♥️
I’m back for more Barry. Can’t wait for you to react to their new video Amazing Grace ( My Chains Are Gone). I’ve only heard one other person sing this version but Pentatonix, of course made it their own. It’s gorgeous. We’ve been celebrating since the good news this morning. (Well celebrating in our Covid-19 bubble) What a relief. When Amazing Grace posted the other night, it was perfect timing. I’ve been so stressed about the planet & the state of America. Today was a good day so a little Pentatonix before heading to bed. Take care. ☮️💟😷
Only when the power of love is greater than the love of power will we see an end to war. Let's hope it's soon... We need to hear this so much - right now!
Song gave me chills because it's so powerful that brings such an important message. There is no difference between any race as we're all human. Man, woman and child. You're reaction Barry was almost the same as mine. Beautiful sir. Just beautiful.
Sometimes if I'm expecting it, it doesn't give me the goosebumps, but sometimes it catches me off guard, and BOOM...... I get a SERIOUS case of the feels and goosebumps because of this song. Another amazing cover that the really give you a serious case of the feels is their cover of the Christina Aguliera song "Say Something". They look like they have been put through the emotional wringer and are about to fall apart.
What makes this video even more perfect is how personal it is for them. Have you noticed that what's written on the board is who they are? And when they pass it to the next person, it represents what those two have in common. And then they flip it to let you know what's different about them.
"it's like a religious experience"... 100%!! The vibration /energetic expressions PTX creates is exactly like a religious experience and they have many many many worshippers. Their wall of sound is so powerful ❤️
When I first saw this Pentatonix video, my first thought was they embodied the message that John Lennon was trying to convey with this song. I feel like John would be proud of this.
I am a Beatlemaniac, but PTX just took that song to the level it should always have been. John Lennon sang it, but they made that song ring alive all that the message was intended to do. I have loved PTX since they came out with Mary, did you know and will continue listening to and experiencing them. I miss Avi. He has such a welcoming smile as he sings besides that bass voice that is superb!
Beautiful reaction Barry ! I get goose bumps all the time with these divine people. Do try more from these passion-filled PTX songs. They have lots of Christmas songs, and Original songs: BE MY EYES, LOVE AGAIN, and then EVOLUTION OF RHIANNA shows off their true acapella magic, as does Kiiara's GOLD. Have fun ! Thank you
Very few people can resist the magic of PTX's cover of Imagine. As evidence, I submit my husband, a Beatles purist who absolutely bristles with indignation when anyone covers one of their songs. He actually loves this cover. To answer your question, Barry, I think they would knock Prince's Raspberry Beret out of the park!
Musically, I adore how they split the harmonies all the way through, until the very last phrase, when they sing in perfect unison about living as one...
John Lennon’s music is (he may not be with us anymore, but his music still is) so beautiful - especially when sung in such beautiful harmonies. This song could have been written for Pentatonix - just so lovely with their voices. They have such a wonderful balance of quality and timbre of voices. Your cats don’t harass you during these recordings? My cat jumps up for vocals she likes (Dimash, Pentatonix are favourites.). This is a lovely, simple video. Wonderful message.
I’m sure John Lennon would’ve appreciated this version and their amazing talent. They are my favourite artists along with Dimash. Keep reacting to them Barry! ♥️
The first time I heard them it was in a competition with other acapela groups and they won. The first prize was a recording contract and here you are. They have never stopped producing wonderful songs.
I fell in love with Pentatonix after they one the acapella singoff. They never disappoint. And now they brought me to your channel and I have become a subscriber. :-)
In some ways, this version with the visuals (cards) is more impactful than John's original. John recorded this song almost 50 years ago and the world really hasn't changed that much...and I don't really believe it ever will unfortunately. I have the fortune and/or misfortune of being a Realist and not an Optimist, and I realize that it's naive to believe that human nature can realistically change that quickly. As for the actual recording of the song, it's always nice getting to hear Kevin take the lead. His voice is just as amazing as the rest of the group, but being perhaps the best beatboxer in the world limits him sometimes.
Barry, my reaction to your reaction is this. Barry, the bus driver of the 'Barry Bus', gives us a heartfelt and lovely review of the classic Imagine by John Lennon. As the saying goes, 'the eyes are the window to the soul', so watching this reaction-review of Pentatonix's version we can see deep into Barry's soul, and it's quite lovely. Immediately, I caught his again misty eyes opening up the door to his soul. Pentatonix shows again why they are so successful by the many layers to the song they give. This is never more evident than how each adds their layer upon layer once each member finishes holding their sign singing 'live as one', showing how each is a member of not only the group but also society as a whole. Gorgeous! Thank you Barry for another awesome and on-point reaction-review.
Love your reactions Barry. Welcome to the Pentaholic family. If you want to start at the beginning, LOL, you are about to take a long journey down the PTX rabbit hole of awesomeness. A bit of history before you really begin, Mitch (the counter tenor with the voice of an angel) Scott (the tall blonde baritone who can do riffs and runs better than anyone) and Kirstie (the gorgeous, talented, mezzo soprano, female of the group, all grew up together in Texas, USA. Mitch and Kirstie have known each other since they were like 8 and Scott and Mitch met when they were ten and both got parts in a community theater group and realized they went to the same school. The three have been best friends ever since. Mitch dated Kirstie when they were like 12 but they realized they were too good of friends and also that Mitch was gay. Then at 16 Mitch and Scott actually dated. Yes, Mitch was each of Kirstie and Scott's first boyfriend. LOL. The boys had a bad breakup and didn't talk for awhile but they loved each other too much to walk away from their friendship and the three of them formed a trio group while in High School called "The Trio". You can go back into some earlier videos and see some of those performances. Fast forward a few years and Scott and Kirstie went off to college, and Mitch was a senior in High School and Scott heard about a show here in the States called The Sing Off, which was about acapella groups and of course he wanted them to audition but they knew they needed more people. Scott's friend Bram, who is the sixth unknown member of PTX, who helps them arrange all their songs and produces their work, told him about a guy named Avi, the bass, who was studying Opera in college, and Scott went to meet him. At the same time Scott saw a TH-cam video of a guy who could play the cello and beatbox at the same time and knew he wanted him for their group. So he contacted Kevin, who at the time was attending Harvard Medical School to become a doctor, and they talked him into flying out to LA where Scott was going to college. Scott, Kirstie, Mitch, Avi, and Bram pulled what little money they had together and got Kevin a plane ticket. So Kevin took a chance and flew out to meet them. That was 2 weeks before the audition for the show. So they only sang together for 2 weeks before they auditioned and got on the show. The first performance on the show was the very first time they ever sang together in front of an audience. As the show goes on you can see them grow and click as they get better and better. You should watch all their performances from the show to see where they started. They did win, but soon after they all walked away from their lives and moved out to LA, the record company dropped them. It was horrible. They got an apartment together and created their own TH-cam channel and started putting out music on their own. When they did "Daft Punk" which they recorded in a closet and shot the video in their kitchen for the amazing price of $400 dollars, they began getting recognition and were signed onto their record label. Then they won a Grammy for "Daft Punk". Another bit of history, while they were on the Sing Off, the producers of the show thought they were too nice and they needed some drama so a lot of the drama you see of them off stage is made up. The producers also insisted they keep Mitch more in the background after the first performance because people would be able to tell he was gay and they didn't want anyone focusing on that. IDIOTS. Homophobic a-holes. Anyway, Mitch already suffered from anxiety and panic attacks and that only made things worse. The rest of PTX were very supportive of him and did everything they could to help him. They really are a family and the nicest people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. Even though Avi is gone now, they are all still best friends with him. Avi and Kevin shared an apartment for many years and Avi's sister Esther was and still is their US tour manager. Scott and Mitch lived together from 2011 when they did the show until early 2019 when they each bought their own homes. Those two are best friends. Avi left the group because of personal issues like his mom having cancer and him wanting to be there for her and he was the one who recommended Matt, their new bass as the one to replace him. Matt fits in perfectly with them and is an angel. He is so, so sweet. So there you have it, a quick breakdown of the history of PTX. Check out their TH-cam channel and you can go from the beginning until present. They all also have their own channels and do solo stuff as well as Scott and Mitch's Superfruit which I already told you about on the previous video. So many amazing videos to come in your future and soooooo much talent. I can give you a huge list of what to see and listen to and where to start. LOL
Thank you so much for the amazing breakdown of their early history. I've followed them since the early days and knew of some of your history lessons, but not nearly to the extent you gave. Reading your comments I can only say thank you and wow, wow, wow!
@@bobfritz8705 You're welcome Bob. I am a true Pentaholic and have been following them since day one of the Sing Off. LOL. I have seen them live three times and met them twice, once with Avi and once with Matt, only last year. They really are the nicest, sweetest people ever and their friendships with each other are inspiring how close they all are.
Thank you so much for that history lesson. I just ‘discovered’ this group during the pandemic and have just been blown away!! I’m OBSESSED! Their music is truly a gift to humankind. Happy to be a newbie Pentaholic and can’t wait to see them live. ❤️ 🌈
Thank you for the back story on them. I hadn’t heard all of that. Especially about Avi’s mother. I’m glad there is someone who can set us straight on how they all met and a little more of their personal background. Thank you again. Joy
Barry, your reaction to this song was absolutely gorgeous itself. Worth it’s weight in gold. You literally felt exactly the same way I did when I heard it the first time. Wonderful job!
This is one of my favorite Pentatonix songs, and it might be my favorite video. The message is so powerful, and the harmonies are just perfect. I still sometimes get misty eyes watching!
Barry, that's the most beautiful "Wall of sound" I have ever heard. My eyes are leaking again. I love to rewatch your reactions when I'm down, it lifts me up. Thank you for just being Barry
They did a cover of the Sound of Silence that made me sob the first time I heard it. I can't just listen to it just once because there is so much to unpack each time.
I don't always watch your videos in order, or immediately - just because certain songs are so fraught with emotion (and personal context) I need to make sure I'm in the right state of mind. This was a lovely version of a song with TONS of context, and I enjoyed your reaction tremendously. Thanks again.
There's just so much I love about this video. The simplicity of the set and the balck and white esthetic focuses concentration on the beautiful voices and the lovely and timely (and timeless) words of John Lennon. Avi was the perfect choice to start it out, always a treat to hear his rich, smooth voice in his upper range. Scott gets to display his soulful baritone and his mastery of runs and, of course, there's Mitch. He is so wonderfully adept and moving through his ranges with his sweet tenor voice but the little run at the end of his solo gives me chills. Kirsti gets to show the power and resonance of her amazing voice and Kevin puts the cherry on top - it's a rare pleasure to hear his sweet tenor voice. Thanks, Barry! It's what the world needs now (apologies to Burt Bacharach)...
Barry, I want to hear you sing!!! What a beautiful song!! And voices!!! Music moves us, sensitizes us, I'm sure it was hard to hold back tears, like me! A

This song is a perfection. I can't wait for more. Thank you so so much!
Barry, we need more Barry's in this 🌎! Thank you for being you and sharing your kindness 🤗
Wow, lot to take in, cheers for that!
I just wanna say that I absolutely love your reactions. You brighten my day every time.
My absolute favorite Pentatonix cover! Thank you, Barry!
Near the end, they're doing the thing that has become a PTX staple: Wall off sound followed by a slow, gentle lead out.
I wish Pentatonix would cover I Can Only Imagine.
The ending always makes me weepy. Thanks for reacting to this amazing song.
I hadn't heard this cover and it made me cry,
Yeah this is fantastic and last thing on board they hand over is what links them
